Well, it's about that time, I'm gearing up to run a Mercenary game, where you will be operatives of the PMC TriSeq. You'll be competing with other PMCs for jobs, taking rough work up near the north pole doing all manner of intensive actions.

I'm looking for 6 to 8 runners, 2 of those slots are currently reserved (So at most 6 for now). We'll start off with a simple mission to gauge the team dynamic and see where it goes from there, I'm looking for active members who know they can average at least one post per day.

Character creation will be 750 Karma, using the karmagen system. I would recommend you spend all that on skills, attributes and spells and the like, gear will be provided post character creation. Social skills won't come up often, but depending on how you play it you might get to use some of them more or less often. In most cases social skills will come up for ordering in special gear and not pissing off your CO (That means etiquette). Survival will be imperative, you'll be operating in and around arctic conditions. In light of that I'll be using most all of the books, WAR and Hazard pay especially.

The campaign's main base of operations will be in Russia near the Yakut border, and may move up towards the north pole/greenland/canada area. Latter on the campaign might move around Turkistan but for now we'll be operating out of Russia to see how the group does.

Character creation general rules: Special attributes like Magic/Resonance do not count towards CC Caps, There is no cap on Metagenetic qualities, negative build points do not count past -70 karma, feel free to take them for role play reasons if you feel the need but they won't give you any bonus past that point. Bonus dice cap out after (Skill+Attribute)/2, armour encumbrance is in place at 2 X Body.

After you create your characters we'll go over your issued gear and augmentations, expect to loose at least 1 essence in augmentations depending on your build.

If you want to send me your prototype build as a chummer html file that's fine, but just post your general idea bellow and we'll discuss it before I start getting a mailbox full.

Take note of the Standard Issue Tags, unless you fit the criteria of the special issue tags do not equip them to your character, ignore any gear costs (that I've listed the item for) unless I've said otherwise. For mages, pay the karma cost of the Foci but ignore the Nuyen Cost, you can take up to your magic rating in up to force 4 Foci of your choosing. (The total force of the foci can not exceed your magic rating x 5. Pg. 199 SR4A)

Karl Metzger, the "Butcher" (translation of his surname Metzger)
was a german Mercenary who had an accident with explosives.
He was saved but they needed to replace most of his body and went with a package deal.
All of his Body is chrome now and they did even more then that.
They didn't just make his Body new, they made him into an all new person.
With a mixture of magic and hypnosis they erased and supressed his previous life.
As a side effect he tends to react aggressively every now and then.

Since he has no memory of his past, the only real contact he has is the Chief Physician who patched him up.


Update: I updated the weapons and I changed riding to parachuting, which I think is better suited to the character and campaign.

Note: The intimidation Dicepool is 13, because Panzer makes it based on Body not Charisma

I am thinking an Eastern European Covert Ops type Adept. Probably mainly geared towards melee combat and rifles.

I am a little worried about losing an essence, but I will plan my build around it.

Edit: Still working on the character, though I am leaning towards monofil whip, infiltration, with some longarms for sniping (though I realize a rigger may do better at this job). Kind of assassin-esque.

Okay, ...I don't want to turn anyone away. But yeah, there are allot of you, I need to stress, that you have to manage at least one post a day.

All those character concepts, even the AI, are fine with me. But make sure you've read hazard pay and understand what skills you'll need to survive. Another thing I have to mention is, all of your characters must take the SINner quality, I don't recall if AIs can do that or what countries off hand they're accepted.

You all have to promise to play nice, work with eachother and make my GM workload simpler, if you pull something up make sure you've got a page reference to it, if it's something unusual you attempt doing (Like a botnet or the page of the spell or the like you're about to use)

We'll be using invisible castle for our dice rolling unless one of you has a better dice roller site.

Right, so let's talk about character concepts, keep in mind that you should use all 750 karma on your skills. Understand that you'll be doing physical training (PT) and keeping your skills sharp at gun ranges and the like when you're not working so I don't want to see any characters with less than average strength and body (3s), 4s and 5s obviously if you're the foot soldiering type. Another thing is even if you're a rear echelon soldier you'll need to know how to use pistols and up to carbine sized weapon for defense.

Like I said, your gear will be provided based on your character, foot soldiers can expect to receive Muscle Toner and Augmentation, MPC Bridge, and Reflex Recorder for Firearms, probably a platelet factory and adrenal regulator. But again, I'll look over each of your character ideas and we can work out exactly what you're getting, everyone gets an MPC Bridge at the very least.

Go ahead and start drawing up your characters, if they're going to be extensively cybered... make a requisition list and put it in separate spoiler tags.

1. How are you handling contacts and gear? Is this something we should spend karma on, or will this be provided as part of the mercenary outfit? EDIT: Okay, looks like gear will be provided, but still wondering if contacts will be at all relevant.
2. You mentioned a few house rules in your first post, particularly the bit about magic/resonance not counting toward CC caps. Is there a way to turn this on in Chummer?

Oh wow, I've been paying full price for my .pdfs.... Okay so yeah, you will need Hazard Pay, and we'll being using firearms and vehicles from all over so if you don't have books like Gun h(e)aven 1 and 2, Milspec Tech 1 and 2, or Unfriendly Skies that will be a problem.

You can check the rules under Tools>Options>Optional Rules/House Rules, check Karma Build: Free Knowledge Skills like BP Build, the three involving allow characters to exceed 35 BP and the sub option, Treat metatype attribute minimum as 1 for the purpose of determining karma costs, and Special Attributes do not count towards 50% Karma limit during character creation.

Go ahead and check Free contact points = CHA x ... I dunno 3. If you want to link them to your PMC the company name is D&S TriSeq Global, though you won't be able to get the connection bonuses if you do in that way, you'll get contacts in your company after chargen though.

Other bit, and I'll post this back on the front page for easy reminder. These are the optional rules, checkable in chummer, we'll be using, I'll write out the houserules as well.

Limit Skills to 20 dice or 2 x (Natural Attribute + Skill Rating), Whichever is higher
Allow Skills to be re-Grouped if all ratings are the same
High Strength affects weapon Recoil (Though you'll take fatigue damage for firing unbraced for weapons that need it and potentially suffer knockdown)

House rules (This won't affect you during character gen)
Ammo is bought in volumes of 50 at a time, or at a markup of generally -80% using Chummer
High Power Chambering can fire any ammunition (Not assault cannon rounds, unless it's an assault cannon [which I will not allow to take high power chambering] ), that ammunition will be 50% more expensive than normal (-70% in chummer)
Extended magazines can be bought for weapons that have take the increased magazine modification, they're availability is equal to the weapon's +2, they increase the magazine capacity by 100%, but only 1 of them can fit in an ammo pouch, as well the weapon cannot be holstered with the clip in it.

As long as  you at least have WAR and the core rule books you should be fine, if a vehicle shows up that you don't have stats for it may just be that you won't need them, you'll see their abilities showcased and you can act on it, (Just like real life!). I'm not going to fault you for not buying a bunch of pdfs or books just to play my game, but we should be able to work it out just fine, as long as it doesn't turn into a hindering problem.

Bewilderbeast, if you're going to play a mage you might want to ask the other players in our group to help you with that, I have to read up on the magic rules a bit as well. I'm fine with it, but magic isn't my experienced area, I'll make sure everyone gets a challenge though, but most likely it'll be the riggers and soldiers who will see the most action.

A word on the assassin monwhip guy, I really hope you've read hazard pay, as that character might not survive so well, unless he's skilled with firearms as well. Understand that there isn't a whole lot of cover out in the Tundra, though he may fair better in the Taiga which will most likely visit as well.

The Ork Doc (Sichr's I think) character I'm fine with, but everyone should understand your enemies will be throwing upwards of 10 dice at you, so make sure your characters know how to take cover and suppress.


I'm going to keep the dice pool caps in place for now, unless I feel that it's negatively impacting gameplay when we start playing, it'll stay in place.

You don't need to check that option chummer automatically allows you to buy metagenetic qualities ontop of your 70Karma when you get SURGE.

Also can I start with latent awakening + an adept way (burnout) ?

And shall we post Characters here for all to see or provide them by pm?

I still need through hazard pay so all of the character can still change.

Sichr I'm fine with the character as is, but if you want to revise and reapply that's fine, go ahead and keep the karma you've already earned with that character and the ware, she won't be indebted to TriSeq for most of her ware.

Thrass, If you wanna go full cyborg that's fine, make your character using full 750 Karma (not BP), don't buy any gear or ware, and we'll apply the ware after you finish character creation. We could say you're one of the corps full body betaware cyborg pet projects, don't expect to be leaving TriSeq anytime in the next 10-20 years though ;) . So yes, just make your character as if s/he was a "Normal" unaugmented person.

Everyone will get the survival gear they need, I just expect everyone to have the skills to utilize them. Another thing, average engagement ranges could be in the 300 meter range, but you could encounter hard contact at even farther ranges than that. So I expect some of you, if not all, to have gunnery as a skill.

Magnetbox, I was going to go a sniper angle with my character, too. I might be willing to try a mage, though (was initially building up an ork adept sniper). But like I said, I'm a bumbling newb, so maybe mage isn't a good idea?

I'll fill whatever role is necessary, just keep in mind my options are limited just due to my lack of game knowledge (hacking/rigging/matrix/vehicle stuff still hopelessly confuses me).

But I need to stress you won't be operating as lone wolves, so keep your team mates in mind. Someone mentioned a south african mage, that idea sounded neat to me, if you would like to play a mage I see no reason why you shouldn't, whatever role you take can only aid your team.

As those 25 karma  in sheet, those were given by GM for final touches, and the run was never finished (GM was cut off after Irene) I wont use those.I should be fine with those 750 standard points :)

I would generally like to try a mage character (I'm the guy who always wants to play the wizard in D&D, so it's just a role I like). I will definitely need some help in making him, but so far people have been really supportive.

Thrass that looks good, Magnetbox and Bewilderbeast, you're free to overlap but it looks like right now the group just needs firepower, I'd recommend that both of you take up longarms and automatics and specialize as you like. As I said earlier, I'll count the battle rifle in single fire as a longarms roll.

Magnetbox I'd be interested in seeing a monowhip in action, and you're free to take close combat and infiltration skills, just understand that your initial engagements could happen at hundreds of meters. That doesn't mean that infiltration and security defeating skills won't come in handy when breaching a facility.

Everyone should have some infiltration, survival and navigation skills. As well as a side arm skill and a main weapon skill.

I'll post up the outfit's standard issue gear and ware, if you're a mage or adept you won't be given more than 1 essence in ware unless you elect to do so.

I banged up a mage. Please let me know if I've picked some horrible spells or otherwise messed up. My concern is he's a little heavy on the sustaining spells right now... if there is any possibility of getting a sustaining focus of some type, that'd be very helpfu. I'm otherwise open to spell suggestions. I would like to keep an acid spell of some type just for flavor, though. Fits the whole wannabe alchemist thing well.

Aryeonos; dropped Astral Beacon at your suggestion. Took up Spirit Bane (Earth) instead.

Since we'll all be augmented to some degree, I don't expect Heal to come into play as anything more than first aid, so I hopefully won't be stepping on the doctor character's toes.

== Description ==
Omeed has a slightly scruffy beard but is otherwise clean-cut. He has dark jade eyes, coal black hair and olive skin. He is of medium height and weight, and more wiry than muscular.

== Background ==
Omeed is a hermetic mage of Persian descent who learned his skills at a prestigious European university... until he ran out of funds, that is. He longs to be an alchemist and magician who can heal the world through his magic, but right now, he needs money to fund his education and help pay off the massive debts he has already incurred. He signed on with the company as a magic specialist, and while he's seen a bit of combat experience, he is not terribly combat-hardened. His plan is to earn money fightning and killing while he's young enough to do it, and return to a life of peace and study when he's older.

He has tried to continue his alchemical and magical studies in his down-time but with little success. A particularly disastrous experiment that attempted to synthesize a form of the metaphysical "philosopher's stone" backfired, leaving Omeed with an irritating allergy to gold and the eternal ire of the earth spirits he tried to use to fuel the experiments. He has grown much more cautious since then, and prides himself on his ability to protect his squadmates from magical threats. Both Omeed and his superiors believe he is not leadership material, tending to freeze up when asked to make tactical decisions, but he follows orders well and is thoroughly loyal to the company.

== Concept ==
Support combat mage. He can heal in a pinch, blast enemies with Stun Bolt and Toxic Wave, and watch your back with Physical Barrier and Armor skills. By no means a heavy hitter, but should be useful to counter any magical threats the squad encounters.

I'm still reading up on magical stuff, so I'll let the other players advise you if they would be so kind, otherwise your mage looks pretty solid, you could drop etiquette down a couple ranks and maybe use those points to specialize or boost some other skills if you like, but being a learnin' doctor you might innately be more formal and respectful so that's fine.

Okay, for Antal, I don't know how you got Automatics to go under logic... that one baffles me, the other bit is, simsense vertigo cancels out your encephalon, you can still get AR bonuses without the encephalon by having assisting AR Information, like schematics or what have you or a Tacsoft which works pretty much the same as an AR bonus but requires pooled sensory input.

You'll be getting a pair of cybereyes with retinal duplication, as well as muscle toner and augmentation like the rest of the group, and an MPC bridge like the rest of the group. So there isn't any need to put karma/money into that one.

I'll post the gear and group transports up here in case anyone needs to adjust,

Note that you will not all be issued the same gear, some of this is situational, like the cyber-eyes. The microscopic vision is for the medics, retinal duplication I had intended for the infiltrator. Orthoskin and the Insulation I had intended for vehicle crews who are going to be sitting there freezing their asses off in less insulated clothing.

So for special gear, I'm wondering what the mages will need to keep them on the level with everyone else.

If he took the Mind over Matter Adept Power, then he can use Logic instead of Agility for dice pools (It's the only attribute that Mind over Matter actually functions well for).

Automatics (and every other AGI skill) is governed by logic because I took Mind over Matter. That was kind of the whole point of my character, to ditch AGI in favor of LOG.

If we HAVE to have Muscle Toner and Muscle Augmentation, that kind of defeats the purpose of my build. Also that sounds like more than 1 essence worth of 'ware, which means I need to seriously adjust some things.

An actual plane is a bit limited in scope seeing as they're kind of limited in where they can land (not to mention that that's probably a LOT more expensive than the vehicle I suggested...)

From looking at the list, it looks like I'm gonna need to spend some points into cash after all, for my Control Rig (and maybe the booster nanites with a nanohive for them--doubt that one though, I don't care much for the nano-tech stuff generally). Not to mention the Datajack to be able to use the Control Rig.

I do wonder why the armor list doesn't include an FFBA suit as well (a choice between full and half would be a good idea)

A4BG, the Rig, Datajack, and the like will be provided for you, this is more baseline stuff. The vehicles are VTOL, and the space they require for operations is a non issue.

Base line augmentations are always going to be alphaware, once I get everyone's character sheets in I'll assign you the gear you'll need, this list was just a heads up for the sort of gear you'll be working with.

I'll start looking over everyone's characters and make a list now.

Alright, I fixed Antal in view of the gear information. I haven't made all of the Knowledge skills and other fluff, but other than that he is ready to go.

For the record, I changed the Reflex Recorder (Firearms) to just Reflex Recorder (Longarms) due to essence issues.

All in all, he is ready to kick down some doors and do some math all over people's faces!

Yes the mask covers your face and integrates with the helmet, it can be worn on its own as well with straps but it's perfectly capable of being integrated with a helmet system.

Otherwise, I will be perfectly happy with any gear issued to Ammad. He would greatly appreciate a sustaining focus of some type, but if that is not something the company has the resources to provide, I understand. I'm totally fine being a fish out of water as the token wizard.

Still fiddling around with spells, though. If Slow is really only good for aiding in parachuting, I might drop it... unless we're going to be parachuting a lot. Right now, it's Stun Bolt, Toxic Wave, Increased Reflexes, Heal, Antidote, Physical Barrier and Slow. If any of these spells sound really, really stupid to you, or if you'd like to request something else, drop me a PM.

The Encrypt would be better under my control than the IC since I built for encryption, though I can see it on the Analyze. Main reason I dropped the Pain Editor from the list was that I figured it might be necessary to give it up for the Toner--was basically thinking that a trade-off was necessary in that regard. Hmm...Reaction Enhancers 3 might work all right without the Wired Reflexes.

Might be a good idea to add the Responsive Interface Gear from War! to everyone's armor for its Simrig function, allowing all natural senses to contribute to the sensor channels required for the Tacnet (though that will still leave 1 sensor channel that needs to be filled to get full benefit of Tacsoft 3).

Alright, I fixed Antal in view of the gear information. I haven't made all of the Knowledge skills and other fluff, but other than that he is ready to go.

For the record, I changed the Reflex Recorder (Firearms) to just Reflex Recorder (Longarms) due to essence issues.

All in all, he is ready to kick down some doors and do some math all over people's faces!

Replace the microscopic vision on your eyes with vision magnification.
Tacnet 3 needs 6 sensor channels, we have:

I think I may still do a monowhip, but only as a secondary to my other abilities. I had kind of forgotten about that, so I added it back in. If you say the 'ware is handled I also upped a couple of other skills if my genetic optimization will be paid for.

since we play with arbitrary switch out basemodification rules you could maybe even change the cyborg adaption to extreme environmental mod slotfree and then get up to 18 armor on 1 slot and rocket boosters on the other 5 ;)

Then run around with HMGs since drones basically ignore recoil.

I don't even know if we do have a Tacnet with that rating, but getting together sensor channels is easily done.

I think you might want to add magic foci to the mix. Also you can jave only as many foci boundee as you have logic, meaning having few strong ones will help much more. Magic foci is greate as it works as most others increasing the stat instead of the skill.

Personality/background Born and raised in South Africa, he grew up an orphan in the slums of Cape Town. He's very familiar with the concept of "fighting for your life". He developed a magical aptitude very young, which helped him fend for himself. When he was old enough to be taught, he was taken in by a shaman where he was given a basic education, both academically and mystically. What the shaman told Richard about magic didn't make much sense to him, so he would take the gist of the lessons and figure it out by himself through experimentation.

a bare windows xp installation in a VM with the chummer executable and maybe a dropbox/google drive client to sync files
(minimal winxp version sadly don't work with the net framework 4)
will be somewhere between a half and a full GB I think

wine will work to show characters with annoying error popups but sadly won't work to build characters
once wine or winetricks get's a dotnet 4 framework that is able to run chummer I'll only need windows to check websites in internet explorer
(btw mono is worse then wine for running chummer)

Nico had what is considered a normal childhood in Russia, raised with respect for his homeland and love for his family. His parents taught him that throughout his life he must hold his ideals close to his heart, but he was also taught that you have to fight and be willing to spill blood for those ideals but only if you truly believe that you are just in your action.

   At 18 he entered the army where his potential to handle drones was noticed and he was trained in their use, he completed his first two years helping manage drones to provide supplies to various locations and outposts throughout Russia. He stayed within the military an extra two years now piloting drones to provide reconnaissance information to ground troops or police in many different settings utilizing all manner of drones often all at once.

   After his fourth year he left the military, only leaving because something was missing in his life that he was unable to find in his slightly monotonous job. Entering the world he soon found that employment for riggers was scarce, because a single rigger could handle a regular sized warehouse or factory and that such jobs were easily outsourced to foreigners through the matrix.

   After two years he was approached by TriSeq and he was offered employment similar to what he had done In the army, and he accepted.

   The work was familiar and easy for him, but there was something off just like before. It took a year for him to figure it out though,and his conclusion saddened him. He wasn't honoring his ideals, he was fighting and working for the highest bidder doing whatever it was they needed done whatever they thought was just, even if it meant people got hurt, he was no longer himself.

   He realized things must change if he is going to ever be happy,  he must abandon his current life and fight for the things that “HE” believes in and what he believes is “JUST”, he wont allow himself to get killed for someone else's ideals. He has to brake away but there is only one problem... will TriSeq let him?

== Description ==
Omeed has a slightly scruffy beard but is otherwise clean-cut. He has dark jade eyes, coal black hair and olive skin. He is of medium height and weight, and more wiry than muscular.

== Background ==
Omeed is a hermetic mage of Persian descent who learned his skills at a prestigious European university... until he ran out of funds, that is. He longs to be an alchemist and magician who can heal the world through his magic, but right now, he needs money to fund his education and help pay off the massive debts he has already incurred. He signed on with the company as a magic specialist, and while he's seen a bit of combat experience, he is not terribly combat-hardened. His plan is to earn money fightning and killing while he's young enough to do it, and return to a life of peace and study when he's older.

He has tried to continue his alchemical and magical studies in his down-time but with little success. A particularly disastrous experiment that attempted to synthesize a form of the metaphysical "philosopher's stone" backfired, leaving Omeed with an irritating allergy to gold and the eternal ire of the earth spirits he tried to use to fuel the experiments. He has grown much more cautious since then, and prides himself on his ability to protect his squadmates from magical threats. Both Omeed and his superiors believe he is not leadership material, tending to freeze up when asked to make tactical decisions, but he follows orders well and is thoroughly loyal to the company.

== Concept ==
Support combat mage. He can heal in a pinch, blast enemies with Stun Bolt and Toxic Wave, and watch your back with Physical Barrier. By no means a heavy hitter, but should be useful to counter any magical threats the squad encounters.


Only concern is right now he's only got a shotgun and a heavy pistol. I put all his skills in longarms instead of automatics, because I remember Aryeonos saying longarms could be used for one weapon or another? If you think I should add another weapon Aryeonos, let me know.

I added all Standard issue weapons My char is skilled with. depending on the job he may need either of them. in close quarters- city job a shotgun, automatics more in a field were precision is needed.

Do you except to attack a lot with weapons or unarmed?
in my opinion reflexes is more needed then Agi for mages, as Agi is mostly used for attack rols, reflexes on dodge. ask yourself what you will need more?

On the other hand i have built chars that have very low reflexes just for RP value, so dont mind me :D

okay, I see some character creation has piled over into the OOC thread, please use this thread for any character creation talk. If you would be so kind as to allow all the players to post up their sheets without any comments or interruptions in between the sheets until everyone has posted up their sheets that would be great.

As far as applying gear, you can make your character as if normal creation rules were in place, use up your karma, add your gear, and then before finishing your character, go up to Special>Change BP/Avail Limit and in the dialog check the ignore character creation rules.

Triseq will expect everyone to be able to use their standardized gear, especially the assault rifle, they'll offer you options to swap out the sidearms (The heavy pistol), primaries (the AR) and secondaries (the shotgun) as well. which will be done in game, everyone will be carrying the gear issued otherwise, the gear you're carrying will be gone over in game anyway.

Sichr you're clear to post up and use your char just send me the critter over PM so I can look it over, HydroRaven, you have 2 sustaining health foci, their bonus doesn't stack. If you can in any way finagle your skills to get the Karma for a power foci that'd help you in all spell casting but counterspelling. Another thing is, I'd recommend you and Bewilder beast to pick like automatics and longarms or pistols and longarms, and take them at skill level 1 or2, but specialize in shotguns, SMGs or machine pistols, and Semi automatics or revolvers. 

Like for Bewilderbeast, you could take longarms at 3, but specialize in shotguns, and take pistols at 1 but specialize in semi autos, because those are what you guys trained in.

Oh, before I forget, if you were to make a roll for something you would put in your character name, say you're only doing 1 roll (Which in most cases you'll only be doing one at a time, unless you're splitting your dice pool to attack twice.) and then put in something like 10d6.hits(5), so that would then roll ten dice and tell you how many of them rolled a 5 or higher.

Going off the existence of the Yagyu Ryu, there are a few prestigious (and private) martial arts schools that require a student to smith a weapon before being considered a proper member.

The Yagyu Ryu takes it one step further; you test your blade against the guy who brought you in. If it breaks, you get to demonstrate how shamed you are by putting it through your stomach.
