Title: HF Blade

So, my group's swordslinger got his hands on Revengence, and is in love with the HF Blade. Reading up on it's fluff, it sounds like a spruced up vibroblade. Should I just let him fluff a vibro into a High Frequency blade, or should there be some extra damage/AP coming from it?

sounds like a vibro sword with custom look lv 2, specificly to look like a sword from an OLD video game. really, who is going to remember a 60-year-old video game? although the franchise may still be getting new games in the 2070's

do make sure to get custom grip, the extra die is worth it.

His big problem is that a game set in 2020 (if I remember my lore right) has whisper silent vibroblades while 2075 doesn't. The only reason he doesn't take one is he hates the humming issue.

I'm really leaning towards just having him fluff a vibroblade with a dampener or something.

well, if you want a dampner, i would price it the same as a weapon with ceramic/composite components. very expensive and hard to get. some kind of bleeding edge 'stealth' vibro blade. it would need the restricted gear quality, but that sounds appropriate for such advanced tech.

I wouldn't allow it without some severe cost. One of the things that keeps vibroblades from being massively overpowered is the fact that whenever you have one out and on, you got the loud humming. Answer me this, would you allow a player to have a lightsaber that still cut through anything like butter but didn't glow like a torch and give off a loud humming sound? Of course not. Same idea here.

Also, Revengeance is one of the Metal Gear games, right? Don't take tech tips for a shadowrun game from a game world where they have mecha.

To be fair, Shadowrun also has mecha. Smaller mecha granted but still mecha.
AKA walker drones of unusual size.
Also, IMO, it makes more sense to turn a truck into a walker than, say, a motorbike. Don't get why they said BOD 6(8? 10?) or LESS...

Same reason that giant  insects can't exist.  As size increases, volume, and therefore mass increases exponentially.  Walkers get harder to build the bigger they get.  Given the level of tech in 2070 I suppose there's no reason not to have larger walkers, but they should get rapidly slower and more expensive.  Ultimately, tracks or wheels or even a cushion of air is more efficient in almost every case once you get above a certain size.

FYI, the 20 vibration cycles per second described in Arsenal is considered Subsonic.

If you are inclined to court the idea, I'd say combining the High-Velocity and Sound Suppressor into a single Mod, call it Hyper-sonic Viborblade.  Make the cost and requirements something like 5 Slots, Threshold 38 (100% of the HV mod + 50% of the Sound Suppressor mod), require a Facility to modify the weapon, have the mod cost Weapon cost x3, an Availibility of 20-25, and require Hardware in addition to Armorer.

This Modification ratchets the cyclic vibration rate up to an astounding 15,000 vibration cycles per second, making it utterly silent to normal hearing, and requires replacement of the entire orgional blade structure with one serrated on the nano-level.  The best energy management and usage systems combined with the densist baterry configuration currently available can only sustain the blade vibrating for a paltry 20 minutes while still requiring a full hour to recharge.  The percision of the mechanisms installed require weekly maintainance (both Hardware & Armorer(10, 1 hour) extended tests) with Shop grade tools and storage in the included propriority sheath which is a dedicated Hive facility sustaining a colony of Nanoetchers to maintain the fine blade edge.  If used unpowered treat as a Monoblade variety weapon.

Personally, I wouldn't make the weapons much (if at all) better in terms of direct damage vs other options, but increase the AP to laser or even gauss levels.

I agree. Keep the same damage as the vibroblade knife/sword, and increase the AP. Perhaps -4, for a melee equivalent of APDS? Do NOT do it as -half like energy weapons. That's for when you make it a lightsaber. And when you do, I'll buy four.

1: Dunno what Peaches is.

2: So are you saying that the description of the hum from Arsenal is actually incorrect, and it would be easier for me to simply override that with "it's silent unless you are looking for the noise" and let him fluff up the blade look itself?

Just because the movement is subsonic does not mean the mechanism is silent. An electric razor moves at subsonic speeds, and there is a distinct hum when it is in use.
