I was writing a short story and a scenario came up in the story that I can see actually coming up in ShadowRun and it got me to thinking on how would a GM handle it.
Basically the protagonist is trying to get information from a guy, she has him restrained to a chair, her gun barrel to the top of his hand.. (interrogation roll obviously)
He tells her to F off, so she pulls the trigger.
Would a GM really do much for rolling/soaking damage etc with this? Its obviously a non-lethal shot, but he's going to take some real damage. She can't really miss the shot, and I wouldn't even think a soak roll would be called for (even if its a troll, this is going to really mess his hand up no matter what). But at the same time, if a roll was required, and she got too many hits then she may have essentially killed the man with a shot to the hand.
How would you handle it?

"Called shot for special effect". He's not entitled to a defense roll, and rather than doing specific damage, hits count as a dice pool modifier to the interrogation test.

Really depends on the character but yeah probably. For dramtic effect you could just do what you want because reality wise why not?
My Character bullet stopper ex military Adept with 20 Physical and 12 overflow might not flinch at such a thing. I'd still give him a penalty to use that hand since it was shot. Though what was it shot with? A Rugar SuperWar Hawk that might be a different story. xD
I'd also thing about only applying the guns base damage with no net hits to the damage so most shots wouldn't 'instantly' kill someone. Soak to absorb some of it.
Though for bulletstopper I made up a joke that when ever anyone asks him why he's called that he pulls out a light pistol 4 Phys and shoots himself in the head to make a point. 12 dice to resist 4 Phys. Not bad odds. xD

I'd go with this... but modified for both the ammo used and the "caliber" of weapon.... a light pistol with APDS or regular ammo is going to leave a small but very painful hole in the hand that will eventually heal up and be right as rain. A sawed off shotgun firing EX-EX slugs is going to remove the hand entirely....
but that is really all just fluff for you to worry about working into your writing :P

If you need some mechanics for this, call it a penalty to all rolls requiring that hand (shooting, driving, climbing, ... the works). As said before, depending on caliber and type of ammo, either it's a hole that will heal or he will have to be fitted for a cybernetic replacement (and corresponding essence loss).
