My guess is that it was a private deal he and Fastjack made, when he first signed on to Jackpoint. Probably something along the lines of 'Jack will step in to apply the JackHammer befre Puck goes too far, like he did with Deus, or with Pax. A safety net, as it were. And ghost knows Puck could use one. He hasn't been the same since he got out of the Rose Garden. Then again, being a lab rat can do that to people. Before, he was basically another hacker (with an admittedly shady past). Since getting away from MCT, he's more of a crusader or matrix version of the ecoterrorists. But just like with ecoterrorist shamans and the toxic path, a technomancer on a crusade, especially one who's tasted the darkness before, can easily fall on the Dissonant path. So if I had to guess, I'd say Fastjack promised to stop him before he could fall that far.

I was thinking that is possible but i don't think that it necessarily covers it all...... I remember reading something about how puck took on two spiders and how he dealt with them very differently, and the more i think about it i have a feeling it has something to do with that strangely enough and the new matrix protocols

Rough to guess, considering the pure, unadulterated awesome that FastJack has done.  He's a "Last Man Standing" in so many topics it's insane!

Fastjack going out like he has bothers me a great deal, mainly because he was/is such a mythically hard bastard (only current jackpointer who comes close is Bull in my mind) and then sort of does the snaggle puss exit stage left with out asking for help, that to my mind just doesn't sit right with how he has been portrayed over all the books but i ain't nothing but a voice in a sea of thousands so that ain;t gonna change....... The main reason i wanna solve this is that someone told me (One of the other freelancers but my memory ain't always perfect) that i had spotted something when i posted in the stormfront thread and that it was solveable, but i can't figure it out and i hate that

Actually, Fastjack going out like he did makes perfect sense when you step back and consider that he is a man who is well aware of his own legend. Pride has made many a man do stupid things before, things you and they both know they should be better than. And if anyone on Jackpoint deserves to have pride in their accomplishments, their legend, then it is Fastjack. He mentioned it in the piece, actually, about not wanting to taint the legend of Fastjack by reaching out for help, admitting that he was at war with his own mind. Even if it wasn't some kind of entity moving into his head, and just regular mental illness, that's still a hard pill for people to swallow and admit to everyone they know. You see it in people with Alzheimers and dimensia. They put up the front as long as they can, because they don't want to admit it to others, or themselves, until finally someone has to stage an intervention. When you stop thinking of the legend of Fastjack, and start thinking of the human being, it makes perfect sense.

When you put it like that, it makes it more understandable certainly, I hope he ends up being more than just a foot note for fifth edition mind you

The comment could also be about how they each view how the Matrix should be. I'm having a hard time coming up with a way to explain it, but how they see "the rules" of the Matrix.

Smiling Bandit isn't a permanent member.  But from what I can tell, he has a permanent invitation to just come on in.

Given some of his antics in the past, I'm not sure little things like having an invitation or not get in his way......

It's not an antic when you're given permission.  :P  Takes away from his fun, and is exactly the type of Old Skool Social Hacking FastJack would do.  ;D

The best way i can answer is that Puck wanted/wants a free and open matrix, being able to exchange info at will and accessable to anyone, and fastjack saw the matrix in a similar vein, but both of them viewed it in a different way.... Puck as a okuta/techno and fastjack as a hacker. Thats the best way i can explain it....

Hope that makes it a bit clearer

Clockwork?

I kid.   Fastjack has been the voice of Shadowrun, so to speak, to me since I got into it. I'd love to see him get some Lionization and stick around.  I can't see why he wouldn't, he has the cash and connections to get it done without someone trying to get him.

Go read Storm Front.  There are...  Reasons.

Yeah, I know. There are reasons.  But I don't like them. It's not like the Crash that took Captain Chaos, after all.

Killing off two beloved characters between two editions would likely get us lynched at Cons.

So, in the interest of not dying...  ;D

ok have just been reading the Sybil Virus thread (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=11017.0) and am now thinking maybe Jack did reach out to someone.... Puck comment makes more sense if the sybil virus is a Technomatic disease, because not only has Puck been fighting Pax but Jack has also faced off against her.  Puck would have more experience than most with dissonant Techno's, having been both a White and also surviving the hunting involved with Pax.

Anyone agree with my logic or am i just reading too much into it ????

Great, an old fashioned lynching.  Now I'm homesick.

FastJack isn't dead.  We haven't found the body.  'Nuff said.

Home must be a very different Canada than I've experienced.
I'm from Northern Ontario.  And not a very nice part of it, either.

There's a reason I moved to the Murder Capital of Canada that is also known to suffer the most severe winters in Canada...  And felt I came out in a better position for having done so!
