At the end of SR4A, before the Glossary, it shows a Pilot numbers column. Do vehicles and drones come with a pilot program or do I have to buy it for each device type (i.e. once for all my microtap bugs, once for all my fly-spys etc.)?
-
The Pilot rating listed is the Pilot program it has at a base. You can buy a new one for each drone (not type of drone) if you wish to upgrade--or downgrade, but I don't know why you'd do that..

You're a technomancer, and neither need the pilot not want others to be able to make effective use of it?

So a 1000 Nuyen drone comes with Pilot program worth 3000?
-
Yes. However, that Pilot program will not work on ANY other drone.

Mass production drives costs down. That's why getting a coffeemaker from Wal-mart costs less than getting a custom made coffeemaker tailored to your individual needs.
-
Note that with a Programming Environment, a Programming Suite and a good programmer, it takes 3 months to make a Pilot 3. Even at double the normal Day Job fees that's 30k development. Sell a thousand of them and you're at 30 nuyen the drone.

Ah, that's why I enjoy coming here. :D

Would that really help you when dealing with a rigger though? The technomancer part yes, but the low pilot?

Depends on the method they're using.
-
Rig... Dive on the technomancer... rig out at last second... Some days I love having expendable bodies, especially when they belong to someone else ;D
-
"Rig" doesn't imply a single specific method.
-
Excuse me... "jump in" and "jump out" i believe are the proper terms. Okay, why do we need a control "rig" to jump in, get called "riggers" for having said rig, and have a whole plethora of gear specifically for "jumping in" with rig or rigger in it's name... But yet Rig does not mean that I'm Jumped in?
-
Rigging also covers Remote Control and Autonomous Operation - and thus Spoofing Commands. AO is the only one where Pilot is ever part of the equation.
-
Yes, but why is it "rigging" if I don't even need the titular rig to give orders or go RC?
-
Because it's an inherited term from previous editions. You don't even need the control rig to jump in - it simply provides a couple of extra dice while doing so.
-
A rig is "an apparatus for some purpose; equipment; gear". A rigger is a person that uses a rig. That's why.

And I was beaten to the statement. what is it with everyone tonight? Can't type three words before a new post.
