Title: Drakes and Gear
Post by: Ninja137 on <05-04-13/0758:01>
If for, whatever reason, a player wanted to play a Drake, but wanted to get custom gear specifically for the Drake form, how exactly would you go about doing so? I don't quite think telling people it was for movie set stuff would work.

Use the Artisan/Hardware/Armorer skills and make your own stuff.

take a loyalty 5 or 6 contact that can get such gear.  Those should keep their mouth shut.  And pay about twice the amount for it as you pay for regular gear.

Speaking of which, what is the normal cost for custom gear?

I'm not sure you could actually find someplace to buy it, though.  Dragons and drakes don't wear stuff in general, and that says a lot when you're talking about such a rare group.

I can see no reason why Lofwyr wouldn't get his corp to make dragon sized armor for him. I could see it not really being available outside such a connection, but that sort of connection is basically what it'd be. Maybe not exactly, but somehow through favor/otherwise, it'd be close.

Dragons have literally no need for armour - Greats especially so.  High-rating Hardened Armour already makes you pretty much unkillable.

If you are able to get more protection to give yourself more of an advantage, especially in an environment as dangerous as the battles a dragon/drake likely gets into, why would you not use all available advantages and give yourself more defense?

Because they have literally zero need for it - note Sirrug here.  Anything that has a chance of even tickling a dragon wouldn't care about any sort of armour.  So why show weakness?

Clutch of Dragons, I believe, has a Drake 'Day Bag', that is essentially a body armor bag for their drake form, which is used by Ryan Mercury and company.

As for Dragons (especially Great Dragons) using something like worn armor? Not bloody likely, not until MUCH later in the mana cycle. Even though it might help, their dragon pride would prevent them from doing something like that, unless there was a threat they recognized as an equal (or nearly equal). And it would be bad form to use it for dragon-on-dragon fights. So no, no dragon armor until we have weapons that can reliably hurt dragons.

As RHat said, anything that can punch through a great dragon's armor isn't going to care about the few extra points of armor, and it would be a sign of weakness to rely on that, rather than spells and your innate abilities.

If you want a guideline on adjusted armors, merely having armor which supports elongated limbs is already a +50%.

Also, 10 Mercs has a centaur battle harness that includes weapon mounts. I still want to see some armor for Nagas, though.

If you are looking specifically to modify armor to fit Drakes, consider a mage/shaman with the Fashion spell (Street Magic, pg 173, with extended rules in Attitude, pg 172).

The caster may need to get something on the order of 9 successes on casting, to make it really work well; however, it should alleviate the additional costs of the item having to be customized to Drake form. Of course you may have to pay the mage for their services instead.

YNT softweave was invented for Nagas wasn't it? Or was it all Sapient Metacritters? Either way, it'd take a wizard or allot of helping hands to get some armour on a Naga, let alone clothes in general that'd stay put and not inhibit their movement.

Actually, the Day Bag was from Ten Mercs in the "New Assets" section.

Sounds like a job for a Droned suit of Iron Will, from Attitude pg. 154.

I had the same thought when my mage became a Drake (it wasn't something I planned on).  However, I would suggest an Armor spell. Either on you cast yourself or have cast for you.

I think foci are the only things you can use when transformed, so being Awakened helps a lot. Especially with the breath weapon, which bases it's damage on you Magic.
