I know that an upgrade to a cyberlimb needs to be the same grade as the limb. What about a completely unrelated piece of cyberware? If I implant a nanohive inside of an alpha-grade cyber hand, does the hive need to be alpha as well? That doesn't make sense to me, but making sense isn't good enough. Any rulings from the book or community as a whole?

As far as I know, it has to be Alpha.
Something something *mumble* compatibility
But this is offhand. I haven't used those rules for a while.

Hmmmm... Is the nano hive helping the whole body or just the arm? If its helping the whole body, *I* wouldn't let you plant the have in the arm in the first place simply cause (from my understanding) the nanites travel through the blood stream, and a cyberarm has no blood. Sure, you are connected to it, but I imagine that is through a sealed and sanitary port-like connection (hydrolic fluid is rather poisonous after all, and so is many lubricants!).
But, that could just be my intrepretation of cyber limbs and Hives...
If it just affected the arm, then it would still have to match the grade of the arm..,

It has a capacity rating, so by the rules it could go into one, but yeah, I would require the grades to match just like with everything else. Though I would also require it to be a full limb rather than a partial. The cost it has in Essence makes me think it a bit large for a hand or foot alone.
-
IMHO I have to say I require anything in a cyber limb to be the same grade as it is... As for the size a partial lost limb is a minimum in my book for a nanohive but that's because I have had a friend explain to me how big one would be

I can't believe I spelled Nanohive incorrectly in the thread title. I'm so embarassed... :-[
As far as the topic, yeah. I understand. I figured that was the answer, it's just one of those times where my logic doesn't match the game's RAW. It happens. :) As for requiring a certain limb size for the hive to be implanted... I honestly don't know. Isn't that what the capacity rating of a limb is supposed to indicate? If a limb has enough capacity to hold it, that seems to indicate there is room for the implant. A leg holds 20, a half leg holds 12, a foot holds 4. An arm holds 15, a half arm holds 10, a hand holds 4. Synthetics are 8/5/2 and 10/6/2.

a Nanohive is no Upgrade so it doesn't need to be of the same Grade
Ired or Lowlight is an upgrade for Cybereyes
Added STR or AGI is an Upgrade for a Cyberarm
A Nanohive isn't . Neither is a secret compartment ,etc (ImO)

I think that logics out reasonably, the other side of the pillow could be that it needs to be of higher grade to not impede the function of the ware it's implanted in, but that's just devils avocado.
