Title: Cryo Weapons
Post by: Basic on <06-17-13/1530:15>
I wanted to know if sr5 with have Cryo Weapons ?

I would love to throw a grande that can freeze things or a reverse flame thrower.

Other than liquid nitrogen spash grenades, I don't think so. That tech is a little further sci-fi than even Shadowrun's gotten. Hell, they've barely got laser weapons to man-portable size (and they still don't have ammo capacity worth squat), and you want freeze rays?

Why not?  They were in Predator 2.  :P  (REALLY short range.)

Liquid Nitrogen isn't exactly great for freezing things outside of dipping them into it or pouring it over. You'll get nasty frostbite sure and even get a lot of ice on the ground. But you wouldn't be getting into "frozen corpsec" territory.

Weapons? Maybe not. But magic then...?

Updated tech on laser cooling in today's world.

A laser photon hits the atom and causes it to emit photons of a higher average energy than the one it absorbed from the laser. The energy difference comes from thermal excitations within the atoms, and this heat from the thermal excitation is converted into light which then leaves the atom as a photon. This can also be seen from the perspective of the law of conservation of momentum. When an atom is traveling towards a laser beam and a photon from the laser is absorbed by the atom, the momentum of the atom is reduced by the amount of momentum of the photon it absorbed.
Δp/p = pphoton/mv = Δv/v
Δv = pphoton/m
Momentum of the photon is: p = E/c = h/λ If you were floating on a hovercraft, moving a significant velocity in one direction, and randomly threw metallic balls off the hovercraft, eventually your velocity would slow down and your movements would entirely be dictated by the recoil effect of throwing the balls. That is how laser cooling works.

Thanks for Physics 101:)  Long time since these courses.
So concretly, what do you advice for using lasers to cool people?;)
