Title: [5e] Comm + Deck, or Just Deck
Post by: kwixson on <07-17-13/0728:03>
Can I use a deck in place of a comlink or do I still need a comlink also?

My understanding is a deck can be used in place of a commlink, but deckers will often keep a throw-away commlink for public use since decks are illegal (AFAIK).

...Riggers RCC (Rigger Command Console) also act as a commlink (but also got stuff like noice reduction). And the Control Rig headware also double as a Data Jack.

Grab a commlink - they're cheap, can have plenty of slaving slots, and having one can help you avoid some extra scrutiny since trying to openly get your deck by whatever is going to result in extra scrutiny.

But, if I'm interested in putting a deck as headware then there's no need to also have a comlink implant too, right?

If you don't want your deck running your PAN, it's a good idea to have one anyways.

That said, also having an external 'Link in order to run your Fake SIN and more legitimate stuff is suggested, if for nothing else so that you don't get mistaken for a Technomancer.  ;)

Implant would be counter-productive in this case, since that commlink exists to be seen.
