Title: Insect Spirits
Post by: Palladion on <08-29-13/1518:39>
(Yes, this is for SR5.) I was not 100% familiar with all the SR4 books, which book had insect spirits listed OR has anyone come up with SR5 stats for them?

(If any of my players are reading this... shame on you! AND fear the bugs!)

I was actually just wondering the same thing. I think the last full write up on Insect Spirits I have available is from the Threats book...

It is odd I think there is a story in SR5 core book using an insect spirit.

All of Missions Season 5 is set in Chicago, so I would assume bugs are on the menu, I was just hoping to have some stats to threaten--I mean, build an module with. Heh. Also, little bugs make fun "fodder" until the big bad shows up.

My first full SR 5 arc (and any of my players who are reading can stop now. Yes that means you.) is going to involve an Ares/Bug connection.

I'm guessing 5E doesn't have them, but 4E's Street Magic has a section specifically for Insect Spirits page 149, with stats on page 152.

Ooo... a whole section to adapt! Perfect, exactly what I was looking for!

Background count didn't make it in the core book presumably due to space concerns, i'm not sure how they would have had room for bug spirits.

I don't think space is the issue here, it's more a matter of Core gameplay vs extensive gameplay.

You mean how much they can cut out to make extra profit.  You don't have to pretend.  No critters, so much is missing.  I already know theres going to be an extra book.  So you know come on...I think one of the issues with the book is probably the amount of time they spent pulling stuff out rather than putting them in.  While maintaining a reasonable amount of profit.  Nothing wrong with it, however I wish they would put in a lot more effort with the core books polish.

Oh, save it.  First, there was ALWAYS going to be another magic book.  There's always been an extra magic book.  So they have to decide what's most important to the core to be in the core book, and what can wait.  Insect spirits weren't core in SR4, either, so putting them in the magic splat represents no change at all.

Not to mention that spirits haven't changed that much between the two editions.

Three things to keep in mind, Volomon:

1: Space. You cannot possibly fit everything in, we'd be talking about a 2.000 page book.

2: Core HAS to be simplified! The more complicated extra options aren't what you want in your core book. Insect Spirits are complicated, just like Toxic stuff, Genetech, Vehicle and Weapon Modifications, Arsenal, Advanced Lifestyle, Background Count, Chargen Alternatives, and so on and so forth.

3: I am not aware of ANYTHING being pulled out of Core compared to SR4. (Except Skinlink but that one is gone forever.) Instead, they even put a few more things in instead. Background Count, Insect Spirits, karmagen, all those weren't in Core to begin with in SR4.

They follow the SR4 style of books, except that they're combining Arsenal and catalog books into Run & Gun and Rigger 5. There will be an Augmentation book, there will be a Matrix book, there will be a Runner book, there will be a Magic book. They're not deliberately removing things from Core, they're simply following a decent "Basic Core book and Advanced Extended Core books" structure just like in SR4.

The Insect spirts front has to be introduced first. I'm guessing that they are hiding among the elven glam rock scene this time.

Look, just because the dandelion eaters are annoying, it doesn't make them insect spirits.

Nope, they're hiding in the Ares ranks instead.

Read some of the final books of SR4 as well as Storm Front to see what Michael is talking about. Heh heh.

Wonder who is more scared.

Us Discovering Bug Spirits in a Megacorporation.

Bug Spirits Discovering the Corporate Ratrace.  Though to be fair as bugs, they probably are used to it.

Your 3 o'clock appointment for investing the new hires in Sales are here Sir. And don't forget Marketing wants that report on the latest live fire testings  on the Hybrid B13 batch chitin armouring by end of day.

I ran Brothers United as a stand alone adventure in my SR5 campaning. And i went with preety straightforward converion. I added Limits acording to their attributes, and used the updated Immunity to normal weapons. And it went really well. New hardned armor rules made them much more resistant to damage and almost impossible to put down without powerfull magic or insecticides. And this were mostly Force 4 hybrids. In SR 4 i needed force 8 hybrids to give a simmiliar chalange.
