Title: Vehicle weapon mounts
Post by: Imveros on <09-29-13/2118:01>
I see the rule for what they cost, what they can mount, and where you can mount them, but not how obvious they are.

Are we talking James Bond type behind the headlights machine guns, or are we talking mad max, Thunder-dome type weapon mounts? My group has made arguments for both ways and I'm curious what you guys think!

Thanks!

In SR4a, they were 2.500, in Arsenal that was the cost of Interior (not obvious) ones, though the drones that come with them had obvious ones. It might be a decent guideline for SR5 for now.

thanks for the quick reply!

The basic ones in the core book are also 2500.

Did the base ones used to be less expensive in the last edition? Or are you saying it costs an additional 2500 to make them hidden? Meaning 5000 for base and 7500 for heavy?

Weapon Mounts in SR4a were 2.500. In SR4 Arsenal, you had 3 types, each taking different amounts of modification space and nuyen. I do not have Arsenal at the ready, but I vaguely recall External Weapon Mounts were 1.500, Internal 2.500, Concealed even more expensive. So it'd stand to reason that any weapon mount you modded onto a vehicle would be Internal meaning it's a Perception Test (-2?) to notice. I'd have to take a look when I get home for the full detials though.

This is one of the most common but also most complex modifications in terms of different variations to choose from, so it has been subdivided into 4 steps: Size, Visibility, Flexibility and Control. In each step, you choose one of the presented options, and then add up the Slot, Threshold, Cost and Availability ratings to get the overall value of the modification.

Size: The size of the weapon mount determines wich weapon you can mount. A normal weapon mount can hold a firearm of up to LMG size, while a reinforced weapon mount can hold firearms larger than LMG size.

Visibility: The external version of the weapon attaches the weapon to the outside of the vehicle. This increases the vehicle's Signature (see p. 162, SR4) by +1, and may raise eyebrowns or attract law enforcement in certain areas. The internal version puts the weapon inside the vehicle, only revealing it ehrn it is used. Internal weapon mounts have a Concealability modifier of -2. The Concealed version is the same as the invernal version, but is also hidden by special flush pannels, providing a Concealability rating of -6 to notice that the vehicle is armed.

Flexibility: The basic weapon mount configuration can hold a fixed weapon, but unfortunately sometimes a shadowrunners' opponents refuse to stand still in front of their vehicle to be conveniently shot at. In those cases, weapons need to be...

...mounted on more adjustable mounts so that they can be aimed. Flexible mounts have a roughly 90-degree field of fire (horizontal and vertical), while turret mount has a full 360-degree rotation and a vertical fire arc of 90 degrees, wich means that a hemispherical area-usually on the vehicle's roof- is covered. The heavy turret mount is available for the vehicles with a body rating of at least 14. It holds one main gun (see p. 123) with a 360-degree rotation and a vertical fire arc of 30 degrees.

Control: Manual control means that the weapon mount must be manned by a crew member. The gunner is not protected while firing the gun, unless the armored manual control option is chosen. Remote control means that the weapon can only be fired by remote control.

Also remember that it has to fit your playstyle i like mainly the James Bond hidden style but some of my players wish to go with SUV/Tanks, i encourage the James Bond style and punish the tank style when the players start doing stupid things (go to a meeting with Mr. Jhonson in a SUV/Tank or roll into the city for good grade groceries in the same vehicle) also when someone has something nice... Well lets just say that one of my players just got tired of his vehicle being robbed or vandaliced all the time, specially when it happened during a run. Cheers and good luck!

Yeah i am defiantly looking for flexible and concealed. Seems counter-intuitive as a shadow runner to do anything that draws attention to yourself. Still i can think of no better trump card or fall back measure than a discreetly heavily armed and armored fall back/get away point.

Seems like the moral of the story is i need to mooch one of the other players' copy of arsenal, run stuff past the GM and go from there.

Thanks for all your help guys. You all have been very helpful in all the topics i have posted for rigging help. You guys rock!

Default Weapon Mounts are pretty much flexible in SR5, and I'd apply them as Internal, not Concealed, myself. The GM could make a runner pay more for a Concealed version.
