okay I had an idea for a few serial encounters or a campaign
a crack pot geneticist using Nanites to do some gene splicing of meta-active genes and a run allows the experiments to escape or the nanites get free or corrupted and a new ?mutant? is created or released ?
with the possibility of the players being the ones that mess things up or used to clean up or something they stumble into ?
has anyone done something like this ?

lol never seen or played it so I didn't know
I was kinda thinking of it getting released and making kobolds as the guy was playing with dwarf and dragon genes

DNA DOA (the old Shadowrun adventure) has some Aztechnology lab splicing genes and resulting in turning humans to ork-like things and some people into beast men.

And then there's always bugs.

I thought nanites "went boom" in Storm Front and were removed from 5e?
Am I wrong?
