[IC] Crash and Burn: Chapter I
Chapter I: Welcome to real life Omae

What makes you an adult? is it the ability to stand up by yourself? is it the ability to fight your own battles? the will to keep fighting? Its 2075 and its no to the first two and a yes to the last one... I can't stand on my own, i can't even crap withouth medical help... Im a vegetable, of course i can move my head and of course i can speak, but between been Quadra and the Cancer i have almost gave up on life, then i meet the trix, at first it was scary, then it became my only safe shore on a life of total dependance. Started studying and got pretty high scores, made my life around the trix, and earned enough to keep myself and even to start saving for the future, thing is i ain't able to let my past go, there has to be a meaning, there has to be a reason for all this suffering, so i meet the VU 93, and i meet a bunch of cool people, dangerous too but im used to feel powerless around them, and i get this awsome advice by some old timer by the nickname of The Wyrm Ouroboros, search for the truth... And im scared out of my mind! How in whatever deity you belive can i start searching for the truth with my disability?! its imposible... And then i go angry at myself, for some time i did wanted to die, i even asked several doctors to euthanize me, if im going to be afraid of dying, then im nothing more than a coward, i got a deck and well i decided it was mighty time to start searching for the truth, prepared my bank account and became ready to hire the shadows... With my will trembling i posted this message on the VU 93:

>>>>>[So... Everyone here knows by now that i aint a runner... And by the skills of most of you my SIN'er Past should be a well know issue by now, but hey not everyone is cut out to be a runner, specially me. Thing is i have some evidence that need to be investigated and i have some serious nuyen savings on my side, most of you can check it, the thing is im a cripple and i do need someone to do some errands for me, to shake up some heads... And maybe to deal with some A-holes of the Lone Star, this should be a milk run, and legal (unless you make people speak with a sledge hammer) the pay can be discussed and if you wish to discuss it then Log to the Seattle Max Mayhem Node, i will be administrating it this friday the whole day, ill encrypt a passcode for a VIP room i will set up specially for this ocasion. Hope to see someone there.]<<<<<

If you met Quentin Moore (he doesn't know that's his real name he has no memory of what he used to do or who he was, he uses the name of Dwayne Johnson, both in real life and as a stage name) you would say hes the average elf, but on closer inspection you would note a cyber lower arm, his shaved head, brown eyes, his police officer like body language, and his ability to talk to just about anyone, but his most distinctive thing would be the way he seems to almost politely interrogates people to get every last detail. Well that's not really his only distinctive detail or mannerism but the other thing he is know for is his off color jokes that he tells at a little club (called Dead Endzzz) in downtown seattlle, he also occasionally performs via the matrix node the club runs, where his icon is that of a jester in full motley that is rainbow colored, but rather than having normal arms and legs they are twisted in a double helix, he liked the effect so much that he choose it as his name for the streets.

Rachel hated matrix meetings.  For one she couldn't assense the other particpants and secondly, she had to use those frakking trodes.  But matrix meetings were part of life, and at the moment a lack of money was threatening said life, so she had no choice.  She had tried to find something about this WrongConcept, but the search had yielded no results.  She did find some information about the game, enough to know it wasn't for her.

She went to her lodge to do this.  At least there she had a comfy set of cushions to lie on - for when she had to do astral searches - and a ward around her so at least astral visitors had to knock loud enough for her to notice.  In order to notice regular visitors, she set her select sound filter to flash a warning to her commlink (and therefore to her) if it detected the sound of breaking doors or glass.

With these preparations done, she logged in onto the node with her off the shelf female mage avatar with way to few clothes on.  She always thought about changing it, but never gotten around to actually do so that she was now used to it.  It was a representation of Samantha Delavine's character Sevelda from the 2071 blockbuster Dragons in the mist.  She always found it funny when people assumed she was an Ork too.  As soon as she entered the node she shook her head.
'Juvenile games,' she thought as she entered the code for the VIP room.  This was going to be a long evening.

As the sound of the violins slowly faded, the brass increased in volume and intensity, filling Viktor's mind until there was nothing left in the world but the music and his own thoughts. He'd been thinking on this for a while now.
Take it or leave it, what do I do with this?
The person offering the job was an amateur, that much was obvious. That could be a good thing or a bad thing. With some luck, it meant this was a job for amateurs, too. Easy money. But it could just as well mean that this man had no idea what he was getting involved in, which made the employer -and by extent the entire job- unreliable.
Still, he needed the money. So many things he wanted to buy. Tools, oil, ammunition, toys for his girls... Oh, he might also need to eat something this month.
Viktor Vedel (Vik to his friends, Wagner on the matrix and in the Shadows) downloaded the attached file after a quick scan to verify it was clean.
He also composed a message to one of his friends, Jakub Polak. The man was an officer for Knight Errand. He mostly handled supplies and didn't really mind selling some of them for the right price if it helped him increase his pension funds. Maybe he could dig up some information about a guy who's had some trouble with Lone Star. Everyone keeps an eye on their competition.
Text Message @ Jakub Polak <<"Have files on person called WrongConcept? He had run in with Lone Star, very long ago.">>
The message sent, he decided to do some searching on his own, too.

Physical description: Concrete is an over 2 meters tall, 140 kilograms ork. Short-cropped black hair and well-kept clothes suggest a military background but the lighted cigarette (or some other similar item) always in his mouth and the smile present most of the time gives him a casual outlook. His eyes rarely stop at one place for a long time, constantly keeping tabs of his surroundings seems a second nature. He usually wears well-made and enduring fatigues and a discreetly armored jacket, and rarely leaves home without at least a concealed taser.

General approach on things:Despite what his look suggest Concrete is not militant. He likes a certain order of things (otherwise drek hits the fan too frequently) but does not really push for that order. He likes to deal with situations without resorting to violence but knows that sometimes "might makes right" is the only possibility, and he feels sorry for those who try to contradict this fact of life (he also does not hide how he feels about them). He knows all the big and most of the small clubs in Seattle and if not at work when visiting, likes to enjoy the services provided.

Matrix icon: An ork in a suit, fully made of concrete.

10-11-2075|10:32|Concrete’s flat, somewhere in Renton

Concrete was bored and irritated. No jobs on the horizon, and the last one didn’t pay well. He was almost out of cigarettes – again – and he didn’t have the slightest inclination to go out into the rain to get a new carton, so he had to ration the remaining pack. Smoking one as slow as he could, he browsed the ‘trix absentmindedly. This was something he did rarely, and the last half hour didn’t convince him to change this habit in the near future. Always the same drek – some starlet did this, some politician said that, some journalist digged something ugly up on that celebrity, and so on. He had to keep up, though, if he wanted to keep his edge, clients always wanted to know which clubs their favorites go to, and surprisingly, sometimes they asked their bodyguards these questions – frag them, they could just look at the ‘trix.
Shadow sites were also worth to be checked time and again. Sometimes, they just posted the bare skeleton of details of a work, and you had to go after that. Sometimes it yielded the nujen he needed for the next rent, sometimes they just were some corpse kid fragging around with other people’s lives.

Suddenly, he sat up straighter. What’s this drek about an investigation? And legal? This one must be missing some cogs, if he posted this here, but it might be an interesting meeting. He was curious what kind of people would pop up for a thing like this. He decided it might be worth to check this out, so he downloaded the pass-code. But first things first: food, and another smoke. And maybe a question or two. He sent a text to Sixpack.
>>Yo, man, how’s it going? Is my next package ready? Hope you really got those real Cubans, if it’s like the last batch I’ll be very much satisfied. BTW I found this strange post on the Virtual Underground, heard anything of the omae posting that? He goes by the handle WrongConcept, and by his words, seems to be a sorry-ass guy. If you got anything on him, send it my way in an hour or two.<<

10-10-2075|11:50|Fang's Den

Fang tapped a claw on the table as he read the post in AR. His partner  had already gone off to work and he was feeling a bit lonely. Nevertheless, this WrongConcept looked interesting. The changeling stretched and stood up, beginning to pace as he did so. Not in his 'runner outfit', his normal clothes revealed the lean, almost emaciated build covered in thick fur; brown over most of his body, black at the tip of his tail, around his hands and feet, and around his muzzle, and cream on his torso. Triangular ears stood on the top of his head, twitching in the direction of any sound he could hear. His tail trailed behind him as he walked almost like a flag. Eventually he stopped and sighed.

At the very least, I should look this guy up. The more I know, the better. Then I'll grab lunch. With that thought in mind, he headed to the bedroom and made himself comfortable, scratching at his canine muzzle briefly as he walked. Silvery-green eyes, one of the few more subtle results of SURGE, closed as he slipped into the warmth of VR. His icon looked very similar to how he himself looked, albeit dressed in raver clothes he normally wouldn't wear in public. His matrix identity was very closely entwined with his meatspace identity. He waited for a few minutes, going over his plans, before beginning to zoom around the Matrix, looking for information on this WrongConcept person. He also decided to do a bit of research on the node, just in case.

[10-10-2075|21:37|High-Ball's Lair]

High-Ball 's lair, the small space of a forgotten basement of an old decrepit church was  rich with the dank musky odor of the moisture from the moldy walls clung in the air. His body laid prostrate in a worn leather office chair that vaguely resembled an old Chesterfield design scavenged from the euro-wars. The desk was cracked and brittle with what little was left of the lacquer bleached from years of overuse. A dappled light form the candles flickered strange shadows round the spartan space vaguely silhouetting the decaying corpse of his most recent victim. A now hollow shell curled up in horror in the corner.

As the post came through on his feed after a script had pulled it off the Underground an alert sounded from High-Ball's commlink sat on the desk. He slowly awakened from his slumber and stood up slowly stretching his aching body, before viewing the post...

I should really start to get my life sorted sleeping her is destroying me. At least there's a new job in i could do with some entertainment, plus the nice refreshing pay day always helps.

High-Ball reviewed the details and mulled the details silently walking round deciding what to do, running his hands through his silver hair catching a glimpse of his fair skin and pale grey eyes a faint wraithly resemblance haunting him in the mirror.

At least I don't have to go out tonight for the meet. Shame it's in such a low brow place though.

As he initiated the agent to try and find out more about the node before he joined later. Meanwhile while the agent did its work he called his fixer André La Fevré. They had been friends for years after going to boarding school together, he knew so many people everywhere a middle man for the high classes to get them what they need his primary business was vice and he was good at it form the basic BTL's to bunraku girl he knew where to get t all.

Waiting for a response High-Ball started to work on a new avatar his default grey scale 17th century Viennese harlequin would be so very out of place.A warrior eh I've got just the thing I think he thought to himself as he input the new specifications. The dated look being a feel he just couldn't resist he designed a simple Elizabethan duelist with an open necked woolen top a worn beneath a silk waistcoat , raw-hide trousers and leather riding boots. An elaborate and delicate rapier design is sported in the scabbard hanging from his leather belt.. The face portrays a Spanish origin and has long flowing black hair that twists and flies as if facing a brisk mountain breeze.

Moore commlink starting sounding with a subtle and quiet ringtone, one he could recognize anywhere, the song was from a pre matrix origin, pure instrumental by a singer called Huang Pinyan, not that he would know that, he knew however that the caller id was Subtle Disonance his Yakuza informant, he grabbed his comlink imediatly and answered, the man in front of him was shrouded in shadows, a very old matrix simple effect but he seemed to like it, and Moore knew better than to question his theatrics, the man spoke with a soft voice trying to sound as cryptic and misterious as he could.

>> Ahh DaChang (Obtain Prosperity), the prodigal child, its been far too long since you contacted us, we were afraid you might have forgotten us, your family, the ones that hold the key to your past... And your future. Its sad to not hear from you, but we are forgiving, and we are by your side, you are the prodigal Child after all. We as always come bringin you the gift of wisdon, and knowledge. First the Wisdon, you would do well to honour your family... And the gift of knowledge is on your mail.

The call was ended by Subtle Disonance withouth awaiting for an answer from him, the name DaChang was how they called him, a name that was strange to him but of course all his past was strange to him, they feed him little details, he would know more when he finished paying.

Quote from: @farothel

The Owl protested, not with words, he rarely spoke to her, but with a simple flap of the wings and the feeling that he was not pleased, and she knew why, she was going blind, and thats when things get tricky. However once she connected to the digital realm the Owl presence was quieted and muffled completely, once inside the node the few seconds she was in the main wait room she was spammed by a thousand and rising invitations and different types of text messages that vary wildly in nature but most of them are propositions 18+.

Once the Encrypted Key is inserted the waiting room simply dissapears and a new room forms around her avatar, this room is nothing like the she has seen until now, its very simple and Ultra Realistic Glass Square, that allos a very dramatic and strategic view of the battle Mayhem ocurring down bellow. In the middle of the room there is an avatar, as the room the avatar uses ultra realistic textures, the avatar is a of a tall human 1.94 meters, with a perfect  slim musculature, no fat, an impressive tan and a simple Afro hairstyle. The most impressive feature of this avatar is the fact that it has been programmed to breathe and by the small pearls of sweat to transpire, withouth the odor effects thanks good. Its wearing very small red and white shorts, simple red running shoes, a pair of wrist sweat bands and simple paste shades of bright pink.

The avatar seems very ocuppied hes gesticulating and several effects appearing on the world below, mainly enviromental effects, and amist those effect She could hear a femenine childish voice coming from everywhere.

>> Sayonara Cheater! Another victory for the Great WrongConcept-Sama!

The avatar smiled and posed proudly as he spoke

>> Fear not law abiding citizens of Max Mayhem! i WrongConcept will protect you all with my mighthy muscles of JUSTICE!

As he ended his pose he noted something displaying on his feed and suddenly turned to see Rachel's Avatar, and WrongConcept's avatar face turned red, stopping imediatly all his dance of victory, however the other voice said.

>> Gambare! WrongConcept-Sama keep this up and i will reward you la...

WrongConcept interrupted a bit to late for his sake.

>> Silence Agent Sakura.

He composed himself and cleared his trhoat which was utterly pointles in the Matrix, he looked at the avatar and spoke trying to regain his dignity.

>> Welcome... I... Sorry for that, im not unprofessional just acustomed to be alone while working, sorry. You are here for the job yes? Of course you are thats the encripted key that i left on the VU, So... Sorry my manners im WrongConcept, hopefully your employer.

His ultra realistic avatar left every emotion go trough, or thats what he wanted her to belive, but at the time the avatar looked like he wished that one of the explosions down below destroyed him.

SIN: 05625482ALPHAFOXTROT784GANMA3OMEGA78DELTA426PHI
Is this person known for betraying people?: No data about this, however the investigation yields some reference of works to small companies and charity organizations and not backing down even when the organization or company could not pay.
Does this person have a known history of a successful and major hack?: No major Hack however his programs has been know to be good non lethal and pretty competitive IC.
Is this person trusted on the Matrix?: Mostly, he hasn't been capture lying but some people call him poser because of him having a SIN and for that not being a real Hacker, or simply because he admits he is some kind of low level spider.
Does this person generally prepare IC for meetings?: This should be his first meeting ever, but he works as spider so a polite guess would be to think he would specially if he is working.
He sended the SIN to Samantha hoping she could give him something on him and before he could put himself to work on the Node he received a Text.

Text Message @Fang <<Not now!>>

He couldn't know what was happening but the answer was lightning fast, a bit to fast... He dismissed the posibility of her being a Tech, and continued searching the trix, the node part had to be a joke, there is lot of info on the Matrix and every node has its own fans, and just as he tough it was a piece of cake, like the one he was eating.
Basic Info: The node has been passed from hand to hand, most been low level corps and now is not different, the corp owner is Sunlight Games, is a good ideas gamers formed company.
How well-protected is this node: The node has a two layered security the external handling the game server and game programation is basic, and the internal wich seems pretty up to date and seems to protect paydata and accounts.
Who generally administrates this node? Generally administrated by one of the Corp executives, the two main go by the handles Nexus and SirPounceALot.
How stable is this node? Seven crashes in his history and two of them where the BIG Matrix crashes, so its pretty stable and functional but old.
How popular is the game on this node? The game its quite popular on Seatle and on Japan, but worldwide it dosen't surpass the 2 million players.
Is this node commonly used for 'runner meetings? No history of that at least recently.
By the end of the cake he was a bit closer to the truth, he only lacked the info on the SIN, but this should be enough for now.

Wagner spend a couple of minutes searching for what on earth 'cock blocking' was supposed to mean. Who his contact was trying to have sex with, why Lone Star wanted to stop him from having it and what it had to do with Wagner's question remained unclear to him but he didn't see much use in digging any deeper.
Text message @ Jakub Polak <<Many thanks, will send money. Sorry to be cause of trouble and ruin intercourse.>>
With less money than he did before and no answers to show for it, he was even more desperate for income than he was before. He had few options but to take a closer look at the job and be thankful that nothing showing up meant there wasn't anything bad he found out either.

Before connecting to the node, he checked it out for anything threatening and finding nothing, Wagner connected.
It took all of 718 milliseconds for his comm to render the node's visuals and Wagner cursed at so many resourced wasted on something as pointless as graphics. His icon, a 30-year old icon of a robot from a kids show that was popular in Poland when he was a kid, had seriously outdated graphics and barely any animation. It stuck out like a sore thumb but he didn't care one bit.
After changing some settings, the most important setting 90% opacity on the idiotic game that was going on so it wouldn't distract him too much from what actually mattered, the dwarf punched in the code to the VIP room and ran another scan, trying to find anything that stood out.

[10-11-2075|11:02|Concrete’s flat, somewhere in Renton]

Concrete sent a quick reply to Sixpack. >>Thanks, Chummer, I will pick the package up later today, or maybe tomorrow. Find you at the usual place, and next beer is on me.<<  He then sighed, finished his ChocoBar, and pondered for a few minutes about what he should do. Boredom got the better of him, he decided to use the code he downloaded.

It wasn’t long before his icon appeared in the node. He snorted disgustedly at people playing at war while others shed real blood at some place of the planet. How these people would not be so thrilled if it was real blood that flowed following their swings and shots and make-believe mojo. He didn’t stare for long before applying the encrypted key. The sudden change of scenery didn’t surprise him. Seeing he wasn’t alone, he grunted some greeting and waited for those present to make their case.

10-10-2075|23:37|Fang's Den

Fang had ended up having an enjoyable dinner and nap a bit before the meeting so he wouldn't be tired. When Axel, his boyfriend, came home, he informed the other changeling that he had a trix meeting tonight. Not really necessary, but Axel worried sometimes. At Samantha's response he had immediately shot off a response. If she was able to respond immediately then chances are she couldn't possible be that busy. Nevertheless, he marked the message as only 'mildly urgent'.

Text Message @Samantha <<I don't need it ASAP, but sometime tomorrowish would be nice. Will it be more tempting if I buy you that thing you've been going on about?>>

The node seemed simple enough. He logged in, his highly-realistic icon taking form in the Max Mayhem node. His Resonance abilities alongside his own 'creativity' (advice from his boyfriend) had enabled him  to create  a persona extremely  similar to his meatspace identity, down to the thick fur strands that moved appropriately as he did, or as virtual winds moved around him. It breathed, the ears twitched at sounds, the tail moved appropriately to his emotions. Maybe it was a HotSim thing, or a result of his own mind, but everything respond as his meatspace body did. It had downsides, like around large crowds. He cringed as he noted the node's iconography and ran a brief analysis, looking over it with a Resonant eye before heading over to the VIP room and entering the encryption key.

The game looked alright he supposed, but did it have to be so blinding? He preferred puzzle games anyway.

As his icon took form within the room, he noded the other  hyperrealistic icon. It was on a level similar to his own. He personally felt his was better, but others might not necessarily agree. Unconsciously, he sniffed at the air, an action his icon also performed with high-res animation. Getting scents in VR was misleading, but it was a habit ingrained into him from meatspace. And to a technomancer, the line between VR and AR tended to blur.

Once the message sent he sat back in his chair looking over his dismal hovel. One day he'd do something with this place to make it more livable than the bolt hole it was currently. Opening a draw in his desk he sated his unusual appetite with one of the few bags of blood he had left. A cut glass goblet provided a touch of class to an otherwise dismal activity.

High-Ball logged on with the avatar he prepared earlier. As soon as he logged on the bombardment of the hyper colorful display appalls him, as he wastes no time in entering the VIP code, and to the meet...

Quote from: @Everyone

Just after Eye spoke several avatars started login in the VIP room, the Ultra Realistic Avatar of WrongConcept was almost to tears as he saw them login. But with a big breathe he calmed himself and then detailed them, he suddenly raised his hand asking for them to wait and then turned and inmmediatly several programs started activating.

Three Agents materialiced in the cristal room, just as WrongConcept and Fangs avatars the Avatars of these agents where of Ultra Realistic quality and high atention to detail, each one different from the other, the first one a Female Samurai with real historical armor, a female Sioux Warrior, and a female Blood Soaked Knight, each one of them beautifully but well dressed in their varios culture settings, he spoke to them giving them commands with an interesting respect on his tone and action.

>>WrongConcept: Kobayashi no Amateratsu route the evil from this node and bring honor and glory to your household!
>>Amateratsu: Hai! WrongConcept-Sama!
>>WrongConcept: Great Anpaytoo the spirits of the ancient lands beg for retribution upon the unworthy, smite them all!
>>Anpaytoo: My ancestors ride with me Chieftain!
>>WrongConcept: Lady Elizabeth... Once again i request your sword on the battelfield, send those godless to their graves screaming like banshees!
>>Elizabeth: The grim reaper its at my side my king, they will al fall by my blade.

The three Agents moved down below to the game and started doing WrongConcepts job, he then turned to them and while doing so he spoke again to an Agent.

>>WrongConcept: Unsilence Sakura
>>Sakura: That was mean! you meani-sama
>>WrongConcept: Sakura Encrypt every transmission and block any attemp of comunication to this device, only give access to those with the Encripted Key UberShadow, start a countdown 120 seconds from now kill the authorization of the key, thank you doll ill reward you for this i promise.
>>Sakura: Initiating Protocols, YAY! Candy!

Now all of the attention and awe of WrongConcept's avatar was fixated on the six avatars in front of him, he looked each one of them, his facial expressions where letting his own emotions transpired, he looked scared and exited at the same time, this could be interpreted by them as they wished, he stopped to admire three avatars in particular, Fangs, for his ultra realistic textures and  designs, Wagner for the retro style and finally Eye for the off the shelve choice and then he cleared his throad once again, he stood straight and comunicated trough the Matrix:

>> Im WrongConcept Hopefully your next employer, as i let in the VU the work is mostly legal, unless you start breaking legs and stuff, i have few evidence and thanks to the Chicago Disaster at 56' well the scene cannot be visited, many of the original detectives, medic personal and victims are still alive, my initial offer for the investigation is 10k per head, but at least one of you must know at least a bit about Mojo, because im pretty sure there is Mojo on this. The pay is as standar... At least on the trids... Half now and half after the investigation results have been surrendered, there will be no physical meetings, and if you need to give me physical evidence then you will sent it to a direction that i will specify at that moment. Do you have any questions before you accept the job?

He spoke with confidence, except when he spoke about the "standar" method of payment in wich moment he looked embarrased, however his voice picked up the confidence again and he said his statement fluidly and clear. He was trembling lightly, and he kept looking exited, anxious and scared at the same time... at least thats whats his avatar looked.

"Name's Concrete and i have a few questions. Where do you expect us to physically conduct the job? You said that the scene cannot be visited - honestly, who would want to visit Bug City - but you obviously think that we have to physically visit some places, otherwise you wouldn't hire anyone but hackers. And what is the estimated duration?" The voice generated by the persona was gravelly, like stones grinding on each other softly. It still expressed some emotions, showing disturbance as he mentioned Bug City.

Viktor would've been shaking his head if his mind wasn't hooked in Virtual Reality right now and his body wasn't lying limp on an old couch.
His ancient robot icon simply didn't have any animation programmed corresponding with the gesture, so it didn't move either.
Talking to agents as if they were something real... This man had serious problems and could use some professional help. Agents weren't real, the whole damned Matrix wasn't realy. Everyone knew that! You had to be insane talking to them as if they were.
Drones, now that was something different. They were real. You could touch 'em and tinker with them. They were real enough to be watching over his meat body while his mind was up in here. Real enough to talk to.
But agents? Nah, total whack job.

Fang resisted the urge to roll his eyes at WrongConcept's apparent nervousness. Guy didn't seem to be all that good at this from what the changeling could tell. Or at socialising in general. He certainly could roleplay a commander quite well, as evidenced with the Agents, but normal conversation seemed a bit harder. Maybe it was pure escapism, Fang certainly knew how that felt.

Although I wasn't much better. Took Axel to teach me how not to be completely incompetent at socialising.

Wagner had pretty much asked the question he wanted to.This potential employer hadn't really explained what he wanted yet. He'd probably accept the job anyway, but it would help to know what he was meant to be researching. Or asking a Courier to help research. His icon crossed its arms as it watched WrongConcept, its tail lazily swaying from side to side, much like he would be doing now in his meat body.

Twisted watched the exchange between WrongConcept and Concrete, noting how nervous their Mr Johnson seem, and doing the best he could to suppress a shudder at the mention of Bug City..... While he had no memories of his past, he had heard enough about Chicago from his Yakuza contacts to know that someone who had magic needed to be extra careful if he was in the city......
He also made a mental note that Wagner had in some contacts inside Lone Star.

The face on WrongConcept avatar frowned a bit when he heard Wagners question, he strugled a bit until he let out a sight and then look at them all, and he spoke with more firmness than before, maybe a bit of releaf. He moved his hands and several transparent info windows started to appear in the place, mostly e-newspaper, news and other stuff, but on the center and directly in front of WC avatar was a video of a main avenue, a normal chicagoan traffic jam, and suddenly a brightly neon public transport bus just started to float almost 10 meters on the air for about 3 seconds, and suddenly just turned upside down and slammed with amazing force towards the ground, causing severe damage to the street and to the cars on the place, and then the video looped and started again. At the right side of the video is a window with a list of passengers:

To the left of the video there is a series of Maps with coordinates on Lone Star patrol vehicles, Hospitals, Clinics, Firemen Station and Ambulances and a list:

WrongConcept's Avatar looked at the evidence with sadness at his eyes, and then he pressed on the name Mellinda Sullyvan and a photo id of a beautifull child with twintails smilind broad ended on his hand, he looked at it for a few seconds and then he let it go, determination on his eyes he looked at them and spoke.

>>20 years ago, 2055, my life went to hell, im not crying about it, im not complaining about it, i need answers, because 20 years ago my whole family died with not even a single newspaper recognizing what happened, not even a side note, they deserve better, and i need the truth. I get it, you are runners and you could care less about my history thats fine, so lets get to the facts, one for 20 minutes not one single emergency service approached us, there was no battle outside the bus that i could hear off, at the same time i was 16 just watched my dad and mom die and my sister catch flames and die a horrible slow death while i couldn't do anything, so i have the right to be wrong on this case. No mention of the event was released to the public, and when i asked for explanations they charged me with attempted assault at an officer, i have that video but i do know there is one even better, in 2056 Bug City exploded and many places where lost, in 2058 Ares Macrotechnology reclaimed bug town, by 2063 the area could not be re-urbanized, and at 2070 UCAS Marines spray and pray stabilized the zone a bit, recovering from Morton View to Burbank, in Cicero is located the neares Lone Star building with a surveiliance camera recording node, wich i found it to be alive, this is an optional part of the investigation and could help drastically at his resolution, but i will not force any of you to that. I need to know what happened, and this is all the info i have... As for opposition i have no idea except for some Lone Star A-holes, and for time roughly one week or maybe two.

The avatar relaxed a bit, and he looked at the runners, he was not scared he looked tired.

”OK then, I’ll answer my own questions.” Concrete’s irritation was clearly there, grinding between the gravel. ”Main location is Seattle, but there might be travel involved. There is no set duration for the job, it’s open-ended. Am I the only one that feels terms are a bit hazy? And that payment should include travel costs?” He looked around the room then grunted as he remembered that some of the icons wouldn’t betray any kind of emotion. ”And Mr. Johnson, quit the BS about the job being legal. You tell us something was obviously hushed up by authorities, and expect us to swallow that statement? Also, between Bug City and the Second Crash, most records of that event might not even exist anymore. That means a huge amount of legwork. With which I have no problem at all, just say so that we see eye to eye.”

When Eye spoke, he listened and focused on the avatar eyes, when she finished he took his time to answer thinking about it and then he spoke:

>>Well you should be right on that Eye, however trying to enter such a secure Node would probably be pretty much to high risk, and most importantly ilegal. Also is unlikely they have it up to date, Bug Citys event whas pretty Blitzkrieg so they wouldn't have had time to download the data before the EMP from the Nuke hit every mayor repeater, also i do have something in mind, i spoke with some friends and Lone Star is offering a bounty, that you can keep completly for every node, damaged or undamaged that you find on Chicago, this one in particular is in good state, but it needs retrieval from a pottentialy dangerous zone. I have a key for the node, so you could pop it open take the info, edit the registry to mark the intrusion at any point before and return it for the bounty home free.

When he finished speaking the polite but unknown named jesterlike avatar spoke, the face of WrongConcept's avatar simply gave him a silent thank you. Then Wagner spoke and on the first question he just looked at the glass floor in shame, but he kept listening, the other questions he listened to them waited a few seconds before answering and spoke again.

>>For the first question... I was to busy feeling miserable and being complete looser, i got better. Yes i have searched before and hard, but not much luck, this is mostly everything i find, i also have the exact location of the Node on Chicago, its on a "reclaimed zone" i don't know what that truly means. Nobody tried to put a bullet on my brain, and it shouldn't be too hard considering my condition, yes i did get a few Lone Star A-holes but i think they are trying to cover up for some mayor screw up on security, it should be safe now, most of the people on charge of Chicago are either dead or retired. The most threatening way to stop me was to charge me with attempted assault at an officer and that didn't go to well for them. And the final reason as to why im doing this now is some sort of convergence, everyone to interrogate is on Seattle and the Node just poped up on Chicago, ive done my best to hide it but it could have alredy been discovered by others.

And then Concrete spoke, he felt it really hard on himself but he had no choice but to man up and take it, so he listened to everything he had to say and when he finished he took some time to calm himself, then to think it over and then he spoke again.

>>Sorry, and yes you are right, Seattle is the main location, if any of you accept it you can go to Chicago and retrieve the node, that will give you access to the Lone Star Bounty that i could if you wish so collect for you and then pay you up, i will not take any fee except for the info i require or you could sell it in the black market. The duration should be 2 weeks top, after that time frame im not sure all the conditions would met as perfectly as they have right now. Yes the terms are a bit Hazy, this is my first time, if you wish the job you have to deal with my noobness i can't avoid it, this is a new world for me. About the BS, sorry but really i think this is legal, im not asking you to steal info or to force people to speak, im asking you to make Private Detective work, yes something was obviously hushed but if it would have been important then the Virtual Underground, Jackpoint or some other place would have spoke about it, so my guess is that Lone Star did something bad or simply did a mayor screw up. Yes this job will require huge amount of legwork, and yes that is the situation.

He looked directly at Concrete's avatar eyes, he was not angry he was determined not to look weaker than what he had alredy, it was a learn fast world or die, and he had stopped wishing for his death a long time ago.

Concrete's attitude eased up slightly on WrongConcept as he gave more and more details on the job and on circumstances. This batch of info was more than he usually got before any job. As if the user wasn't accustomed to speaking aloud too often. He had considered the list of passengers. He'd need to ask what they saw when the event happened. Maybe with enough information he might be able to put together an idea of what actually occurred, with help from the Lone Star files. Given the location, the person behind the Eye icon might be able to contribute some theories.

Concrete looked at Twisted. "I believe some of us still have questions here to discuss with Mr. Johnson." He pointed at Fang and High-Ball. "And before we get back to the topic of meatspace meets, you three should at least introduce yourselves. It's the least, considering we" he included Eye and Wagner in the statement, "already did that."

Still looking at Twisted, he tried to collect what he remembered of the place the man suggested.

The eyes of WrongConcept's avatar looked straight at Fang, he smiled at the look of the depth Fang had coded his avatar, and then came the question, his expresion showed pain, he did not tried to hide it, nor did he run from it, he considered his answer a few seconds with eyes closed, he then oppened them and spoke, with a ceirtain fragility as he did so, as if every word was a knife to his body.

>>It was my birthday, mom and dad where busy, both worked at a AB ranked corp regular wageslaves, but they took time to be with us, they ar... were good parents. I wanted to go to the fraggin zoo and i wanted to do it by bus, i don't know why did i tough that stupid idea, i suppose i wished to see the streets or i just wanted to get revenge on them for some stupid reason, my sister loved the idea, and i hated that she had to come with us. We got on the bus close to home at Archer Heights and made our way to the zoo on Lincoln Park. The ride was mostly unneventhfull, i fighted with my sister for some stupidly uninportant reason, got angry at my dad and my mom for backing her up, and looked trought the window, and just after i had wished them to die, a flash of light blinded me and the bus started flying, i ran to my mothers arms and the bus fliped over, i hit the ceiling hard but i could move, then we hit the asphalt really hard, my ears were ringin and i looked at my mothers corpse a few meters from me, i was covered in blood and tryed to move my hand to help my mother, then it sink in, i could not move myself, then i hear my sister scream and turned my head to her she was being drag by a man i didn't recognized him, at that moment i had peace, she was fine, i was a bit sad too, but she was fine. And then they simply catched fire, both started to burn, her screams still hunt me to this day, she cried for help and i couldn't hel her. At least i was going to die, or thats what i tought when the fire got to me. I was wrong.

It took a few minutes for WrongConcept to speak again, he was not crying at least his avatar wasn't but he was completly down almost depleted as some would say, it took a few inhale and exhale for him to regain his composure, and even a few more to speak again directly at Fang.

>>Thank you, it was a hard question but you could have asked about it in a more A-hole way.

The hands of the Avatar when to its face and he massaged his nose ridge a few times before slapping his face to wake up. And spoke to them as a group again.

>>You still wish to discuss payment right? and you maybe have some other questions?

He looked at them waiting for them to speak.

Well I'd better introduce myself as well the name is High-Ball. I'm up for the meet in person. It would seem that our good Mr J has already answered my questions i'm still a little wary on price though but i'm feeling like that can be discussed after a little digging at least for now.

As High-Ball sat back in his chair in the trix he initiated a command for his agent to try get as much information as possible on the suggested meeting place.

Fang's icon tapped at what appeared to be a wrist computer, recording down the information that their employer had told them. He then sent off the record to his ccommlink as he then could be seen pulling up a data screen as he sent threads of Resonance through the matrix, searching for information on a meeting place.

Oh, Good Lord, what have I gotten myself into? WrongConcept just showed a tad too much emotion. He probably was some kind of tech-friendly, to be moderating such a place. It was a mystery why he couldn’t moderate his own icon’s appearance. And the whole story was a little but too dramatic. Concrete knew it probably was just the overly active imagination of a spoiled brat, but it sounded like in a dumb horror flick, where everything the main character thought of, became reality. Or he hoped it was just the guy’s imagination. Frag, I don’t want to be the one breaking it to the Johnson he killed his family.

Still, a job was a job, so he asked the next logical thing that came to his mind. ”Erm… I have a question, and please don’t consider that contains any implication.” Frag, shouldn’t have said that. Doesn’t matter now, I better continue. ”Have you ever been checked for magical talent and found active?” There it was. Concrete regretted the way it came out, he was sure that he wasn’t the only person to get to that particular conclusion, but he couldn’t help it now. He tried to salvage the situation. ”I know it’s personal but it might be an important point for finding out reasons.”

Dead Headzzz is a former BTL junkie safe house and dealing center, for some reason the Triads hit the place hard and recovered the place making it a reputable stablishment, its a decent club... for the zone it is, and it has many tourist, however the BTL dealing is still alive and kicking now with other drug dealers, very private VIP's used for anything, mostly clean (hygene point of view), Triad Heavy Security, and runned by a specially charming Chinesee Human.

WrongConcept was hearing everyone and suddenlly Concrete poped up a question, first he gestured as if looking for a file while looking confused and then anger flashed at his eyes, he stared at Concrete with pure sheer anger, and he closed his eyes for a minute, he relaxed and then he opened them, he was not happy but he wasn't hostile, he reigned himself and spoke.

>>...I was a corp kid... I was tested and re-tested periodicly for Magic, and other possible awakenings, none of my test did positive. Neither my Father or my Mother and not my sister, she wasn't tested as of yet but she did not showed any sign. I do get it, it could have been me... The unhappyness revealed to be deep pain >>And for some time i tough it was me, i hired every specialist in the area, and got any test my decaying corpse could handle and nothing im not an Otaku, nor a Mojo slinger, not even Meta or Surged, im plain joe paralized and burned to a crisp human. I can't move, i can't breathe on my own, i might as well call myself Cadaver! So no im not a fraggin Awakened and i did not killed my family!... At least not with mojo.

The last part was almost a whisper, his avatar showing every emotion, every muscle tensing, he covered his eyes for a moment whiping some digital tears. Then tried to compose himself the best he could, he dind't do it to well.

>>If that is all for now then please go, i have a lot to do, my contract is for 24 hours and im alredy tired.

His avatar looked truly tired, and he just turned his atention down to se what was happening on the game, he opened a few consoles and got himself to work. Everyone got a pop up window to accept a fund transfer of 5000 Nuyen from an anonymous and secured account.

In a way, Wagner was lucky his avatar didn't have any animation worth mentioning. It might have otherwise betrayed what he thought of his employer.
It wasn't that he didn't understand -and in a way, sympathize with- the Johnson. He simply didn't think that showing so much emotion in this kind of business was very smart or logical. Keep your emotions in check, your mind calm and think logically about what actions should be taken.
The robot remained passive, only a couple of blinking lights on its chest and its 'eyes' betrayed it was still active.

Fang carefully went over the info on Dead Headzzz. Seemed clean and safe, and he wasn't in bad relations with the Triads. There certainly was a lot of information from his searching, perhaps he could go over it later when he wasn't  in the meeting. As he was going over the information, a message popped up in his field of vision from his lover.

@Axel: Alright love. Be careful and  I'll hopefully  see you soon! Miss you too, want me to find the plans for the machine? It was silly really, Axel could much better take care of himself than Fang could; the other changeling had grown up in Sioux after all and went through the proper military training. But Fang worried nonetheless.

He considered the oddity of something messing with his browsing of the matrix. It had felt rather  strange, but perhaps he was imagining things.  Still, he'd need to be cautious. Suddenly he felt a vibration through the cube, which made him much more suspicious. he brought up a clawed hand beside his face as an odd visor seemed to come over his eyes, while he looked at the node through the Analytical filter of his Analyze complex form.

>> Well then fine gents if there is nothing more I shall meet you at the club. When are we meeting?

High-Ball waits for a response before logging off form the node and awakening form his prostrate state in his lair.

[11-11-2075|01:03:00|High-Ball's lair]

As he awoke to the dampness clinging in his throat he sat and reviewed the information on the club and the took a look at the information provided by his new Mr. J.

It certainly seemed too good to be true but something still felt off and as that queasy feeling wretched at his gut he knew he'd need feed again soon. It probably ought to be before the run, he wouldn't want to start feeding on a colleague after all.

With his hunger preying on his mind  he prepared his gear and went out into the steely night as the brisk cool air bit on his pale skin.

Back in meat form, he looked at his girls and with much sadness in his voice announced that he probably couldn't bring all of them. The drones remained motionless but he knew them well enough to understand they didn't like it either.

>> okay, I'll be there," Eye said.  After exchanging commcodes she logged out and awoke in her lodge.  After taking care of her body she started to do some research in the event to see what magical things could have caused it, using her pocket mage library.

Arsenal p67 gives the following rules for using the pocket mage library:
Whenever a character with a PocketMage enters a query regarding paranormal critters, spirits, or magic use, she can make a Data Search + Rating using the Data Search rules on p. 220, SR4. PocketMage searches have an interval of 1 Initiative Pass.
