Title: Setting Sourcebook Suggestions
Post by: Reminder on <01-14-14/1820:40>
I am trying to choose a setting for an upcoming game that is NOT set in Seattle. Since some of the players will be new to SR, having at least  North American city may help however.

What I am looking for is a starting point that will offer a variety of settings and groups for potential runs while giving the players that are experienced and have run Seattle to death a chance for something different. I would prefer to use a source not older than 4e if I can help it, but if I get a great recommendation I might look at a 3e source.

So any settings you have run that worked particularly well (and briefly why)?
Also, I know not all setting books are created equal, so before I drop the coin on another, are there any you have found really well laid out/informative/deep or just the opposite?

I would highly recommend Denver.  If you can, check out the source books that cover Denver from 4th edition and also Storm Front as there's a whole chapter that covers the craziness going on there.  It's an intense city with lots of political intrigue.  Corporate intrigue is a little less intense, but the social and political arenas are crazy.

The rotten apple pdf for NYC is pretty good though not super detailed. It was the setting for missions arc before last so there are missions adventures with some additional setting material also. It is a very unique city and setting since the corps are literally the government.

Feral Cities has Chicago laid out in super detail. It is kinda like running in a war zone, however. You could run any kind of campaign that you want with the wealth of information in that book.

I would second Denver, though I'm also partial to DeeCee for obvious reasons.

Thanks for the input. I decided to go with Denver, picking up spy games on discount (I had had my eye on it for a while anyway) and decided to use it as the jump off point for the next game.

I will say I love DeeCee and Denver both equally. But I love Chicago even more.

Don't get me wrong. I love Chicago. Just not the Chicago from Feral Cities.
