Post by: Check Mate on <01-24-14/1717:05>
Welcome to the OOC thread for The Elephant in Seattle. This campaign will consist of 3-5 players

I will be using the following house rules for this game.

House Rule 1: When a physical attack succeeds but the dv does not exceed the defenedors armor, half the damage will be converted to stun damage and you roll your normal damage resistance to resist the stun.
I.E. You have a 14 ballistic armor they hit you but only do 9 damage this means that you will have to resist 4 stun damage with your normal damage resistance pool.

House Rule 2: No Technomancers

House Rule 3: Matrix has crashed and is barely useable. Do not expect any matrix obstacles.

== Description ==
An average looking lad of polish descent, he grew up in the slightly more civilised outskirts of the barrens.
Attending a basic state school, he got enough of an education that he could crack on in life but lived near enough to the slums that he learned how to survive on the streets.
He'd always been an allrounder at school, and this has carried with him throughout life. His background prevented him from anything but the most menial corp job and after several years slaving away after leaving school, Davy approached him with a better offer. His versatile skillset started to earn him cash, enough to get a decent gaff and a decent set of wheels.
He tends to be called on for a wheelman, but can fast talk, B&E and fight when the needs takes him.

Are we resisting that on top of the normal damage we take?

Hi Ivan,

I check your character and I think she and my character are very nice complement each other. Maybe (but its depends on you 100%) becouse you have a lot of powerful contact you should take more points for social skills instead of technical. But I like her in her current form. :)

And you have 3 IP instead of 2, but I bet you already know that.

Check my boosted elf samurai, Toshi:

== Description ==
Your parents were poor, but conservative Japanese enough that they weren't proud to give birth to an elf. Luckily, their disap-pointment didn't last forever. They took a fierce pride in you when you defended them and the family honor in the alleys and shadows of your Puyallup neighborhood, and eventually the Kenran-kai took notice. Your natural talents were nurtured and honed to the razor's edge by the Yakuza syndicate, and augmentation soon followed. You have since earned the right to work freelance, and you do so with every bit of cunning you possess. You are the best and you know it, blessed with a metatype that lends itself well to your fighting style, and you serve as an elegant reminder and warning that street samurai can operate smoothly and silently.

Hence why I have an auto-injector full of Jazz...gets me up to 3 passes, 9 Reaction, and a lot cheaper.

You have 3 IP without any drug. Move by wire 2 got you +2 IP, and +4 REA. With Jazz you will have 4 IP.

I only use MBW 1. That's +1 IP, 2 Reaction, and 1 Dodge, along with Skillwires.

It's cheaper, and I didn't want to waste the quality to get the MBW 2.

@Ivan The stun damage rule only comes into play when the attack fails to breach the armor. The normal rule is that an attack that succedes in hitting but the damage value is lower than the armor the damage is converted 100% to stun.  I.E i hit you with 12DV and your armor is 16, my attack does not break your armor but is instead converted to 12 stun damage that is normally non resistable. I felt that was kind of broken so I wrote my house rule for it.

@Cram Even if he had Wired Reflexes Rating 2 a hit of Jazz would be non effective in increasing his IP because wired reflexes benefits cannot be stacked with any technological or biological enhancements.

Post by: Crazy Ivan on <01-25-14/1518:55>
@Checkmate;

With the written exception of Reaction Enhancers, the MBW/Wired Reflexes don't stack with other Initiative based augmentations (synaptic booster). Does Jazz really count as a biological enhancer? I figured it was chemical induced.

Ivan sorry mate I looked it level 2 MBW, but its just 1.  :-X

@Crazy Ivan You can gain the additional reaction and dodge from it but you cannot gain additional IP. Nothing that grants additional IP can stack except for the stated exceptions. I count drugs as biological.

I'd be interested in participating. I have a true drake occult investigator posted in a spoiler below. Assuming you want her as one of your runners, lemme know of any changes you'd want me to make. Especially the commlink and programs, since I'm not sure exactly how trashed the Matrix is supposed to be.

Name: Jagdkenntnis
Alias: Sammlerin, Samantha Tanis
Race: True Drake
Sex: Female
Nationality: Czech
Lifestyle: Low (1 Month, 2000¥)
Build Points Spent: 400
Physical Description:
Jagdkenntnis’s true form is that of a small Western dragon with a dark purple coloration and yellow eyes. This human-sized dracoform is unusually sleek and slender for the Western variety with a proportionately longer neck, tail, and wingspan. Her 1.65-meter metahuman form is that of a Caucasian elf with a similarly slim build and yellow eyes but with pale skin and purple-tinted, shoulder-length black hair. Like her elven form, her dracoform is on the small side for a Western drake. Since Jagdkenntnis has spent the majority of her life in her true form, communicating via dragonspeech, her metahuman form exhibits a somewhat blunted affect and slight awkwardness in her movement. She is a mere 15 years old, though her elven form has always had the static appearance of a young adult. She wears loose black robes under a lined coat which allow her to quickly strip when shifting form. She often wears goggles and headphones on straps as well as fingerless AR gloves which are improvised to fit her saurian morphology and are therefore useless in her metahuman form. These give her an AR interface with her commlink in her dracoform, since dragonspeech is not picked up by electronics and she has difficulty manipulating devices in her true form.
Personality/Background:
Jagdkenntnis was created by the great dragon Schwartzkopf to serve as an agent in adding to his stores of knowledge. She was raised by a tutor in a secluded lair near Marienbad in the Czech Republic, though she does not speak a word of Czech. The only physical sentient beings she had met were her caretaker and Schwartzkopf for her first 15 years of life. She views Schwartzkopf with filial reverence, always referring to him as “Father.” Though Schwartzkopf has a vast library at the Universitas Carolina Pragensis, Jagdkenntnis was only given limited access to information, forcing her innate curiosity to hone the skills and appetite the great dragon wanted her to develop. She voraciously consumed information of any kind she could get her claws on. Though an avid technophile she knows that any augmentations are virtually non-existent for dracoforms and cannot even use ’trodes for a VR interface unless she is in her metahuman form. She was recently instructed to leave her childhood home and sent off to the western UCAS, Schwartzkopf telling her only that she would know when he wanted her to return.
Jagdkenntnis, now using the alias “Sammlerin,” has only gone on a few runs thus far, the information buried in the shadows being too tempting a lure to keep her to legal channels. Her fake SIN under the name “Samantha Tanis” says she is a common drake, letting her pretend to be metahuman to the authorities and helping hide origin and loyalties. She spends most of her down time perusing the Matrix and her new collection of datasofts. Her magical tradition is that of the chaos mage, staunchly adhering to the Unified Magical Theory paradigm and incorporates unconventional technological aids in her magic. She gravitates towards awakened individuals, hackers, and technomancers alike, lusting after what they know or what information they can access. This attention may make these individuals uncomfortable, for she remains in her true form whenever possible, and the presence of even a human-sized dracoform makes most persons at least a little uneasy. She feels vulnerable in her metahuman form, reinforcing her reluctance to blend in. Since she was never truly socialized, the alien and psychopathic way a draconic mind works makes it fairly difficult for her to interact with metahumans in general. On top of that, her habit of devouring fallen enemies if she has time does not help. Fortunately the influence of Snake results in her avoiding combat if at all possible. She also views all sentient life as a potential asset, further cementing her aversion to unnecessary death at the loss of possible utility. As a creature of cold calculation, she is out of her element when she cannot control her emotions, resulting in reckless behavior during any emotional extreme.
As a loyal agent of Schwartzkopf, she is somewhat safe from being pressed into the service of other dragons, but she was warned to give them a large berth if possible as dragons’ preference for drake servants is notorious. Some members of Benandanti XXV are aware of her existence, presumably also due to her relationship to her creator. Her hedonistic tendencies are mostly consumed by her curiosity but she is susceptible to other stimulation as well. She has even started to experiment with the sensations of her elven form since her arrival in North America, going so far as to attempt the decidedly non-draconic act of sex for pleasure. Unfortunately for her would-be mate, the excitement and arousal resulted in her reverting to her true form and she ended up eating the poor man. She is currently residing in little more than a cabin on the fringes of the Seattle metroplex, which lets her hunt for food in the nearby wilderness with little risk of discovery in her true form. She has managed to establish a shaky working relationship with a fixer in the Seattle area, giving her access beyond her lack of connections and social skills.

Will post my character later today (sorry for the delay, had a busy weekend). A question to the GM: what is your take on a custom magical tradition? I imagined a 'necromancer' who is closer to the role of a priest. His belief is that the souls of ancestors come back to influence the fate of their descendants. These spirits can only act through physical beings (possession-type tradition). Technically it is almost the same as voodoo, just using beast spirits instead of water.

Also, the question is about if you allow possession traditions.

Alias: Puppeteer
Metatype: elf
Age: 39
Height: 187 cm (6’2)
Weight: 70 kg (155 lbs.)
Eyes: red
Hair: white
Skin: pale white
Description: Puppeteer is a tall, thin, albino elf in his late 30’s. He usually wears dark (primarily black or grey), well-tended, although a bit out-of-fashion clothes. He almost constantly wears dark tinted glasses, and he carries around a thin black cane. Some amulets carved from bone hang in his neck, and several bone accessories adorn his clothes. His expression is usually reserved, his demeanor calm and serious.

Unfortunately, unlike Xilostacia, I didn’t find a fancy picture for him yet, and it is even further from me to make one myself.

I also don't have a problem with gritty and honestly worded. Although i think too much vulgarity can hurt the game, but i will trust you to feel the limits. Anyway, the limits are a long way from here, and i'll be sure to tell if i start to feel uncomfortable.

@GM: i'd like to know the detailed results on the assensing test, according to the assensing table, especially on the 5 and 6 hits tests. Can you please give those?
Title: Re: OOC: The Elephant in Seattle
Post by: Check Mate on <01-28-14/1732:17>
@Ren you know that Crazy Ivan has a alphaware cyber arm and his essence is 1.12.  Wheels has an essence of 2.80. Alerions essence is lower than yours and her magic is as well.    I believe that is all you would know let me know if there was anything I missed.
Title: Re: OOC: The Elephant in Seattle
Post by: Ren on <01-29-14/0437:48>
Assensing basically yields information in four important fields, the depth depending on the number of successes:
-   magical capabilities and phenomena: it tells if a person is able to use magic, how strong and possibly what type of user she is, and if there are active magical effects or astral signatures present
-   physical health: tells if a person is wounded, intoxicated, under the influence of some substance, etc.
-   emotional state
-   presence and location of cyber/bioware
Of course, these can be interpreted in a wide variety of ways, because the book doesn’t tell how exact information you get. As a GM, I tend to consider the number of successes rolled to the number needed to get the actual piece of information and I give out more details the more hits the assensing character has above the needed level. For example, presence and location of (non-graded) cyberware implants requires 2 hits. If the character has 2 hits, I give a vague description (like “probably some headware”). If the character has 5 hits, I usually give him detailed info (like “he has a datajack and his eyes are replaced”).

Actually, what I consider the most important category is the emotional state. As a baseline, it only requires one success. I don’t expect to be able to analyze the complex emotional state of a person at a glance, but I’d like to ask you to always include at least some indication of this if I do a successful assensing on someone.

@Xilostacia: I tried to compose my answer using the Sperethiel dictionary I found on the net but it is somewhat lacking in vocabulary. But it was cool that you did it that way.
Title: Re: OOC: The Elephant in Seattle
Post by: Crazy Ivan on <01-29-14/1105:35>
@Ren

You'll pick up Jade in an excited, almost giddy emotional state prior to the meet.

Also, while the cyberarm is obvious, there is a lot of headware and cyber in throughout her nervous system (move by wire).
Title: Re: OOC: The Elephant in Seattle
Post by: Check Mate on <01-29-14/1639:30>
@Ren fair enough and i will attempt to always answer to the extent of the written rules. That said the players must tell you their emotional state as I do not know it unless they state it.

Would all players please state their emptional state at the time they entered the room.

Hmmm....I likey in that this is a plethora of fire-power; not so big on the idea of who those guns are supposed to be pointed at.

It was nothing big just a standard "This forest is historically and magically significant and a corp trying to clear cut it. Was resolved after corp withdrew complaint." It had absolutely nothing to do with the mission or overall story so i didn't feel like summarrizing an article from a year in the past. But the words in quotations above can be considered in character knowledge for you, i will not be reposting in the IC thread.
