Title: Shadowrun Sailboats?
Post by: Cowdragon on <04-02-14/0154:04>
I have a vision for some NPC's in my game. I'm building them with the Prime Runner rules. The problem is that I need a Sailboat to double as "home" for them. Something big enough to hold a pair of jetskis maybe. But just a living area that can move around works too.

Where can I find stats for something like that?

either in SR 4A (and you convert them)
Or you'll have to wait for quite some Time until Boats are released in one of the 'Riggerbooks'

with a converted Dance

Or if absolutely necessary, you can build one yourself based on what you need.

Just figure out how large the living space is, how large the boat is, how fast a sailboat that size would normally go, regular materials, etc.
Then you'd compare it to the book's stats on the material for armor and with the speed chart for speed.

Yeah. Probably easier to just wait for a rigger book or convert one from an older version.

Don't bother unless you want the players to have to interact with the ship in combat.

thanks guys! Yeah, not sure what the speed on something like that would be, and honestly not sure if it'll ever be used in combat. I like the idea of the NPC Technomancer occassionally "rigging" with it though. That's possible, right? LOL

Yeah, my general rule of thumb is "Don't sweat the math unless you're gonna use it."

Assuming it's mostly just going to be used as a home (that sometimes moves), it might be best to stat it up as a group lifestyle.

Rigged sailing, the world has never known such a thing. :)

With the new rigger interface you can sail faster than the wind.

Until you brick the boat at least. :P

"Rigged sailing", love the pun.  8)

By the way, there have been a lot of great innovations in the wind-powered ship-building business over the last two decades. From para-sails for cutting fuel consumption to new sail materials and new rigging methods - the rope stuff of course. That would be great to have in the new SR5 Rigger book.
