Title: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: Moneyspider on <04-08-14/1705:05>
So I'm bored and under-employed. I figure what the hell I could GM something. I'm pretty new to 5th Ed and want to get some experience GMing. And since I'm still getting into the swing of things I'll be doing randomly generated runs for a while. Help us all get on out feet, but I do have ideas for a bigger plot-line if people are still interested. To keep things simple I'd like set some parameters.
The group to be no bigger then 5 people. I'll take three people on the bench but only after the five slots have filled.
There should be a dedicated Hacker, Technomancer or Decker whichever.
No Mystic Adepts. Magicians preferred over Adepts but someone should be able to deal with spirits.
Everyone should be able to defend themselves in a fight.
With Approval you may have negative qualities past the 25 Karma limit. However you will still only receive 25 Karma Max for negative qualities.
Other changes may be added later.

So who wants to give it a go?

Hail, I would be interested, how random are we talking? Will be still be roleplaying and interacting prior to a run, or will it just be us thrown in a situation. Also, what format will the game be, Skype/Roll20/PbP/etc, I am up for any. I will probably take the rigger role as I love them to death and currently am not playing any games. (as a player, am GMing one)

Also want to thank you for trying your hand at GMing, I think more people could do it but fear even trying. Regardless, I will work on my character some, hope you stick with it! I know from experience GMing can take it's toll.

Oh Right! Play-by-Post I guess that's a pretty important detail.

There will definitely be role-playing and all that. I don't wanna just run a combat simulator. In fact there will be Karma rewards for good role-playing.

I'd like to give it a shot. I have a decker in mind.

I would be interested.  I have a elven aspected magician (spellcaster) rolled.

OK then looks like we've got a Decker, Rigger, and Mage. So a Face and or Street-Sam would be good.

I should put out there that my decker is also a bit of a face. So he can fill in for either role. :) I'll post his stats in a bit.

Oh man, dibs on street sam. And I like the idea of randomly generated runs.

Here's the rough version: http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=15526.0

I can get a version with knowledge skills, full gear, and background posted soon.

cursury glance looks good, but I'm gonna have to veto kids for Code of Honor, since as you will rarely run into them at best. Might I suggest civilians?

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring. I can take face, but, I'm on a brutal work schedule for the next 5 days so if you need a character before then I'll understand and bow out.

I'd love to jump in. I'm dying to experiment with the Adept rules.

I can try to include a bit of face as well, if we need it, but the decker sounds like he has a lot of that taken care of.

cursury glance looks good, but I'm gonna have to veto kids for Code of Honor, since as you will rarely run into them at best. Might I suggest civilians?
I expected that. By "no kids" he would mean:
- No killing kids, obviously.
- No killing people in public spaces where a kid could conceivably witness it.
- Using non-lethal methods against people who have children or take care of children unless specifically being paid to kill them.

More of an emotional code of honor than anything rational. I could expand it to include "women and children." I'm not comfortable with civilians, though, because he has no military background and is, in all other respects, a cold heartless bastard. It's intended to be an "emotional" code of honor, the one bit of altruism and soul he can't quite seem to shake. The thing that lets him sleep at night.

The guy is a former organlegger; kind of a dark character.

I'd like to get in on this too!  I just picked up 5th ed a few weeks ago and am just putting together my first characters now.  I'm working on an orc phys ad with guns and some B&E/social skills as well.

I will bow out of this one, currently GMing a game and I feel I would slow things down currently. Again thanks for GMing a game you're a saint man! Perhaps after a few weeks I will contact you and see how things are going and put a character on the bench, if you are ok with that of course!
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: reyjinn on <04-09-14/1706:49>
I know you aren't overly keen on adepts but since the rigger is bowing out I'd like to toss a wheelman adept in the discussion. If you'd rather have a rigger then I understand completely.
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: Moneyspider on <04-09-14/1806:07>
@ Bewilderbeast Then I think women and children would be the way to go. I like Characters with personality like that.

@MortimerBane and reyjinn: Let me clarify It's Mystic adepts I'm giving the GM nope stamp too. Phys Adepts are welcome. I just want to be sure that at least one person can deal with spirits and Magicians tend to be better at that the Adepts.
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: ve4grm on <04-09-14/1820:55>
This is going to get confusing. So for my own clarity:

Tiamut024 - Rigger Bowed Out
p1ex0R - Decker (part Face)
Sincereagape - Mage
Bewilderbeast - Street Samurai
ismilealot - Face (in a week)
ve4grm - Adept
MortimerBane - Adept
reyjinn - Adept

That's a lot of adepts.

Since you wanted 5, I guess that's the first 5 - Decker/Mage/Sam/Face/my Adept? (As long as ismilealot's 5 day requirement is ok?)

@Ve4grm -- My character is actually an aspected magician (spellcaster)

@Money Spider, here is my character, just edited from the character critique thread.  he is the same racist elf from "On the Run2"

http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=15876.0 (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=15876.0)

@Wilder - like the character's code of honor, specifically if it applies to not being able to kill individuals who have children.
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: ve4grm on <04-10-14/0106:08>
@Sincereagape - just to ask, if you're playing a racist elf supremacist, how do you see this impacting your ability to work with the rest of the group? I, for example, will be human. Would you refuse requests from non-elves? Demean non-elves at any chance?

Just wondering what I'm working with here.
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: Sincereagape on <04-10-14/0708:16>
Fair enough question veg.  It would be a combination of both.  If that is a problem I understand and am glad you brought it up

With Tiamut. I am thinking about creating a female wheel girl, rigger instead

That would leave the team without a mage if anyone is interested in that role
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: ve4grm on <04-10-14/1051:53>
@Sincereagape - whether it's a problem or not is for the GM to decide, but I see there being questions regarding why you're working with this group in the first place, and why you continue to do so. Also, if you refuse to, say, heal me when I request it, there will be questions as to why I stay on the team with you.

Is there some reason why you specifically want to play a racist elf? Some major draw to that? Would toning it down to "Biased" instead of "Outspoken" change the concept too much?

Morning Moneyspider, you haven't said yea or nay to my request to join considering my limitation of needing a week before I could make a chara. I'd like to know a bit about the setting and how dark/rough and ready or high dollar high class the storylines are going to go. I've an idea for a character based on the poser trope.
She's a Devil Poser. She was raised on the mean side of town and used to be in a gang. The Devil's Own. Gang membership was a requirement to just survive there, and she's a sixth generation gang member. All the gang got implants as they rose up in ranks, horns, teeth, tail, eyes etc as they were able to afford after jobs, it was a mark of status and skill. Gang finally got a boss that was worth having, Smarter than a jacked in decker and more cunning than Old Nick Himself. He moved the gang from street thugs to a force to be reckoned with, Nothing moved in their territory without his knowledge and say so, And part of his smarts was he knew how to recognize and use talent. And her talent was charm and a pretty face. He taught her how to read people, not that she didn't already have some skill in that ability. But he showed her more, taught her to think past just what she wanted and how to negotiate from positions of both strength and weakness. And then he used her. She became one of his top lieutenants, and the face he used when he needed a scalpel. He also paid for her implants, horns with surveillance equipment, a tail with a small titanium dagger hidden in it fully responsive to her thoughts, and eyes whose ability to read thermoregular signatures were useful to help her detect lies as well as bodies hidden in the shadows. But hell is full of the bodies of betrayers, and one of his chief lieutenants decided he was more than able to take over. Asmodei got wind of the coup of course, and they were ready, or at least thought they were, turned out the loyal informant wasn't quite so loyal. Asmodei almost won, he had more tricks and more traps and more guns than he'd ever let anyone see, and he'd been prepared for a triple cross. But Lucifer had been well trained, and had learned how to over-prepare as well. In the end most of the gang lay dead, along with a fair amount of the neighborhood as they'd hunted and chased, and used every bit of their territory to kill each other. In the end she'd survived because the guy who had her cornered wanted her first, and hadn't known about the tail. alone in a world without gang protection she'd turned to what she knew. How to use people, and how to negotiate with contacts for jobs.

This particular trope is fairly limited in it's usefulness and might be far to narrow in scope to play in your game. Let me know what's needed as I can build anything you want, become anything you want, and be useful in a variety of skills.

Still fleshing out my story, but here's the character I'm working on. I need a street name, distinctive style, and some more.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18mD4RmVMDW328A6wVdExkq5lra3r1lY15SK4L-qXABs/edit?usp=sharing

Reaghan Mawr, aka <street name to be decided>, Welsh Dragonslayer Adept

Mother a surgeon of Indian descent, father a druidic shaman of British lineage, worked together at the Welsh Royal Infirmary developing combined technological/magical treatments.

Born back in 2049, Reaghan had a rebellious streak a mile long. She picked fights with bullies at school, standing up for whoever was being beaten down. As such, most of her friends were metahumans. In her mid-teens, she was already involved with a minor metahuman gang, holding protests against the corrupt LPO government, much to the dismay of her parents.

When she awakened, the reason for this behaviour became clear. The Dragonslayer, personified within her as the legendary Sir Lancelot, had chosen her from a very young age. As such, she felt a compulsion to search for greater and greater triumphs, and foes to defeat. But with her awakening, political rallies would no longer satisfy.

Reaghan moved to the German Flux State, fought for freedom against those who would take advantage of the communities. She enjoyed it there, it satisfied her spiritual needs. She may have been happy to stay there, if not for a Spanish talismonger named Alejandro, whom she had become involved with.

Alejandro told her of the shadows in the UCAS, the corporate and political corruption. He told her of the challenges that could await, and she ate it up. He was moving to Seattle to set up a shop that would import from his family business, and Reaghan decided to come with him to run the shadows.

@veg - the elven supremacist has always been a draw of mine since the early SR stories and I have had an idea for this character since early 4th and with aspected magicians officially returning as a class with the priority system, it worked out on finally putting him on paper.  toning him down to biased would break the concept and there might be concerns about his ability and desire to work with the team. And may refusing healing team members at one depending on how much they conflicted

@ Everyone - I am probably going to try a wheel woman for this game. I was having this morning in coming up with character builds in my mind

This would leave the role of a magic user vacant on the team.

Post by: ve4grm on <04-10-14/1403:30>
@Sincereagape - Got it. Yeah, it sounds like an interesting character concept, but one that needs a specific game to work well in. An all-elf party seems almost a necessity. Given his views, I don't know why he'd work with, say, my character voluntarily.
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: Moneyspider on <04-10-14/1528:13>
Alright so it looks like right now the line-up is:
p1ex0R - Decker (part Face)
Sincereagape - Wheelman
Bewilderbeast - Street Samurai
ismilealot - Face
ve4grm - Adept

So couple things.

@p1ex0R, How much of a Face are we talking?

@Sinceragape while your elf guy does seem really interesting, I do think outspoken racial supremacy is going to be more conflict then fun in this party. So I'd suggest the Wheelman, but Like I said you do need to be able to stand up in a fight. Via drones or whatever skill you like.

@Bewilderbeast I like the though you've put into the Code of Honnor but I have to stay firm that children, and even parents is not quite enough. For one thing just about anyone you encounter could potentially be a parent and you'd have little way of knowing. Most people have some kind of family. Including women would totally work though.

@Ismilealot: Your face is a pretty cool concept, but since this will be randomly generated in terms of run I'm not sure how well someone so heavily augmented would work as a face for some of you're possible clients. If you're willing, since Sincragape is stepping down as Mage a spell slinger would probably be the most beneficial to the group.

@Ve4grm I like the Character generally though I don't see your adept powers on the sheet anywhere. Also it should be stated while your Mentor Spirit might look like Lancelot and act like Lancelot and even tell you that's who he is. That does not necessarily make it true and your character would be aware of that.

I'd like to have the OOC Thread up on Saturday where final Characters and histories will be posted first. I'm working on a standard format for everyone to make that post with. Since I'll be making making up most of the specific details as we go having everyone's character sheet easily accessible and readable will help me make appropriate challenges, makes sure everyone gets some spotlight and respond quickly. does that work for everyone?

@MortimerBane and reyjinn, Thank you for you're interest you're on the back up list for sure. And I'll chat about characters with you if anyone else bows out.
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: ve4grm on <04-10-14/1545:43>
@Moneyspider - The powers and gear just need to be added to the sheet. I did them up in a different format, and need to copy them over. Primarily, I have Improved Reflexes, Improved Agility, Combat Sense, and a couple others. All passive abilities.

And yes, the spirit is the Dragonslayer. But everyone interacts with their mentor spirit differently, right? (After all, each spirit listed has variant names for that archetype, with the default being the "native-american-ish" one.) For this character, that's shaped by the myths and legends of her home. He is the Dragonslayer, but he is just personified as Lancelot to her.

Alternately, I could have him personified as Saint George, but I think that ties the character too much to Christianity, while her lineage (Indian/Druid) doesn't suggest that.

Also, I should note, while my character can handle spirits (magic sword and all), I have no ability to deal with astral beings or astral space. I can pick that up at some point, though.

I'll play any role. I don't care. I'm easy going, man. I just wanna roleplay, y'know?
I can have a character made with a damn good backstory by tomorrow morning.
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: Moneyspider on <04-10-14/1645:20>
Alright so Ismilealot asked some questions about the setting and kinda game this will be so I'm gonna steal some stuff straight from the book and my own GM/DM experience. This I'll be kinda a long post but please read it and give me feedback. I'm trying to stretch my muscles as a GM and have fun so here we go.

Stuff straight from the book:
Morality: While I think characters having some disagreements over morality I'd like everyone to have the same general direction, being good. I don't want to deal with particularly evil, sick or twisted characters. Generally speaking characters should not want to leave a trail of bodies in every run. I don't expect everyone to run around with only non-leathal weapons, this is a dystopia afterall, but whether it because a character wants to avoid drawing the attention of the cops, or because they feel every life is sacred, wonton killing has heavy consequences. This is just one example I"d like to avoid violent psychopaths for characters. On the flip-side and to a lesser degree I don't expect there to be many Paladins in the Sixth world. If you want to be one of those runners who's out fighting the good fight, that's great! But a character that's particularly preachy isn't gonna work well with the guy who's just there to get a paycheck. I don't expect all the characters to be best friends, but you have to have similar moral foundations in order to work with each other.

Racisim This is a big part of the Sixth World and I have no problem implementing it against you guys. And I suggest that you consider the prejudices your character might have. Whether it something as mild as thinking trolls are kinda freaky looking or that Sasquatches aren't people no mater what anyone says. Consider prejudice tied to ethnicity and gender as well. While never hitting a woman is chivalrous and great and all that, it does come with preconceived ideas. The same can be said for many ethnicity, the great ghost dance wasn't THAT long ago, maybe your character assumes all natives are magic, or maybe you have a native character who remembers that it wasn't that long ago that white-man called for the extermination of Natives and magic was the only reason it didn't happen. There are two instances of Racism I don't want in our game. First nothing from players, simple as that. Racist OOC comments will make you not welcome in this game. Second is where it disrupts the flow of game overly much. Like with Sincereagape's elf supremacist, while interesting as hell it would be a pain to have him in a group with any non elves.

Violence I touched on this a bit with morality. But there are a few lines that need to go here too. Graphic detail is unnecessary. One can describe graphic violence without graphic detail and thanks to Hollywood I'm pretty most of use can picture something worse then what we could type out. Even then graphic violence should have an effect on a character, much like killing. It's one thing to see a guy take a bullet or a beating. But a character finding someone who had been tortured to death after several days will at the very least be making some composure checks.

Sexuality I've found that role-playing and being behind a character can be a great safe and interesting way to explore sexuality. I've also found a tendency for gamers to be very immature about it. So please feel free to make a character with an alternative sexuality. In a world of magic and crazy body modifications, of poverty and decadency, of virtual reality and survival sexual freedom is pretty much the norm. However picking up a hooker on every other street corner, or trying to hit on every person you meet with a 6 charisma is annoying and slows down the game, so feel free to role-play the sexuality of characters with a few limitations. First no need for explicit detail. Really they have different forums for that we're here to role-play not fap. Second there will be no IC Rape, not with force, drugs or mind control. Feel free to have it as part of your characters history but it will not happen IC. Third like with racism I don't want to see any OOC homophobia, transphobia or any of that stuff that causes an argument on tumblr. If someone want to make an LGBT character go for it, no one here will give you shit for it, if they do their out.

Now for some stuff from me:
Difficulty I prefer to run a more high risk/ high reward sort of game. I don't like to pull punches. I say this now so you know I'm not picking on anyone. That being said I'm still getting used to the system and will probably make mistakes. If you think I've made a totally unreasonable challenge please PM me it could be I just didn't realize how potent a critter power was, or overestimated what a party could deal with. It could also be that I presented the party with a situation that they're not meant to handle. I expect Runners to turn down jobs when their too much, I expect characters to turn tail and run when they are just too outclassed. I like to reward smart plans and clever thinking. It might seem like there's a challenge that's too great it probably means you should come at it sideways. If you can't come at it sideways then maybe you should cut your losses and call the run off. Pulling a gun in a lonestar station isn't gonna mean you survive because you're a PC, it means you're gonna get shot, even if you're Ned Stark.

Continuity I do not have an encyclopedic knowledge of the world of Shadowrun. I will make mistakes and assumptions. I ask that you be patient with me and roll with it. More often then not it won't matter. If you've got a real Hardon for Cannon sure please share with us, but Cannon isn't gonna be big part of my runs. Least not for a while.

Feedback Give it to me! Good or bad, just please be polite.

Now for some more about the IC stuff

Setting Y'all are in Seattle, bet you didn't see that coming! Most of the game's gonna take place in the Seattle Metroplex and maybe a bit into the surrounding Sailish-Shidhe Council. Maybe once we get things flowing we'll expand but for now you're in the Emerald City.

People So if anyone of you wants to talk to another one and say you have characters who know each other go for it! Just include it in your character background. Otherwise you'll all know each other through a friend of a friend essentially and I'll go more into that once we get going. Things to consider, family, friends, enemies and all that, I don't need a lot of history regarding them, but if there's something you want to share please include it in your character history. If you have the dependents negative quality, however you must let me know who they are before we begin.

Lifestyles and Attributes If you have High, Luxury or Street level lifestyles I'd like to know why. If any of your attributes are 1 or at the natural maximum it should reflect in how the character looks and behaves. Someone with 1 Body is probably sickly looking, someone with 1 Logic probably has some sort of severe head trauma. This includes Magic and to a lesser degree essence. If you've got 6 magic something about you should make it clear that you know a thing or two about the awakened world (Magical tattoos and foci for example.). Likewise someone with less then two essence is gonna look it(unless they try real hard.)

Story The whole idea is that this is going be randomly generated runs. I'll roll some dice here at home and throw something together for you guys to deal with. One day it might be working security for a rich exec while he finishes a high profile project, the next might be delivering medicine to an orphanage, the next you might be trying to steal something from the King Tut exhibit for the Iluminati. So everyone should be prepared for essentially random challenges. As we go along I expect other stories to develop. Someone's past comes into play, a nameless NPC gets a name and highers you for a job that sort of thing.

Downtime It's easy to start shotgunning runs when we have a setup like this. So I will be allocating at least two weeks of downtime between runs for characters to get healed up look for new gear, learn new skills that sort of thing. If you guys decide to push and find more work through your contacts and such more power to you.

So I hope that answered some questions about the kinda of game I want to run. If you have more questions or want clarification please ask! I want to learn though this but I also wanna have fun, and want you guys to have fun too!

And one last thing:
Posting I"d like to see posting as often as possible for everyone. If for some reason you won't be able to post for a few days please let us know in the OOC Thread. If we get no notice and no postings for 5 straight days, I'm gonna bring somebody up off the bench.

Yay! Mages are generally what I play on the rare occasions I play in D&D. Controllers are my fave class. I was trying on face just for this game. If I can think of a backstory of mage that combines face that I'd like to play I'll build in a bit of face on my mage. Might spread me a bit to thin, and I'm by nature a shy little scholar so that's what my mages tend to look like. Looking forward to building a great story with you.

Well for starters I'd suggest Shaman over Hermetic!

@Slowdeck Well I was only gonna have three bench seats but totally make your character dude. And keep an eye on the forums Never know when four people will suddenly drop out.
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs

@ismilealot - Shaman Face is really easy to build. Just make sure you take a decently high skill priority (A or B, maybe C if you don't bother with enchanting/alchemy).

We can split Face duties a bit, if you need. I have a decent Intimidate (9 dice), and the Decker said he'd have some Face qualities.

OK, so i whipped this guy up early. I couldnt wait. i think he's a locally famous ork hardcore rapper. not famous enough to be in the trids, but he does shows in the slums, pretty much for trog only crowds. he runs the shadows primarily to provide resources to the slums that spawned him; food, shelter, matrix access, etc. I spent all his starting karma. Ealy in life, he was well on the way to a productive, boring life. He had been accepted into a local hermetic lodge as a student and things were looking good when he was arrested for possession with intent to sell. Immediately thrown out of the lodge, and fired from his job, he was reduced to living on the street and for the first time in his life, he understood what the have nots really go through, and began to drag himself back up out of the slums.

Thanks for keeping me in mind Moneyspider.
I'm down for playing most roles that might free up, if a decker is needed I'd let someone else have a go. Not nearly confident enough in the matrix rules to take that role.

I have the numbers done, but not the details. Still flushing out backstory and such. As for face...well remember I'm a newb, so my char probably sucks. -_- But About 9 or 10 dice give or take. (3 cha+4 or 5 skills, 2 tailored pheromones). Should be done by sat when the ooc thread goes up. :D

@Moneyspider - flavour question here. Due to a lack of two-handed sword stats in SR5, can I use Katana (also a two-handed sword) stats to represent a Claymore?

In SR4, they were similarly statted. Claymore actually did more damage and had greater reach, strangely.

I don't care about adapting the stats, I'm happy to use the Katana stats, availability, and price as-is. This is solely for character flavour.

I'm actually pretty comfortable with the Matrix rules, and was going to build a decker anyway. I can have the stats up as soon as I'm finished eating.

If you want to use most one handed weapons in two hands go for it. In IRL consider that many of the "One Handed Weapons" Really ought to be used in two hands most of the time. If you've ever compared shooting a pistol with one hand compared to two, and the huge accuracy difference there you'll know what I mean. I do consider runners to be basically action movie heroes though so I'm not gonna had penalties or benefits for changing up the hands used, with regards to one handed weapons. Now if you wanted to do something crazy like weld a combat axe or assault rifle in one hand then we'd have more of an issue.

Also keep in mind that while you're totally OK to use a big fuck of sword there will be consequences. While walking in the Barrens a claymore would probably make people leave you alone, but wandering into a Stuffer Shack down town is gonna get you a few looks if not security/lonestar called on your ass.

That actually goes for a lot of things. By all means the group should have one who knows his way around explosives but if you get Stop and Frisked for being a Troll and they find C4 in your back pack things will get out of hand quickly.

Finally, as a warning I've been watching a lot of Burn Notice and reading Dresden Files and will mercilessly steal from them.

History

Most people who meet Sparkles mistakenly think her running name is a reference to her personality; she's upbeat, happy, and generally in a good mood.

Her running name is actually a reference to what happened to her first four cyberdecks, due to bad luck with running across very power IC. How she has managed to avoid being brain fried is thought to be luck, though any luck she once had in that regard has long been spent.

Sparkles is a pure runner; she's never had a SIN, due in part to being born in the Barrens. Her exact date of birth is not remembered, but she was born in 2050. Despite the rough area she was born in, her family life was generally happy... up until Crash 2.0 killed both of her decker parents, leaving her an orphan at the age of 14. Thanks to the Crash also wiping out her parents' savings, she soon found herself unable to afford the home she was in and facing the possibility of being homeless.

Sparkles quickly caught a break when her landlord turned out to be a fixer. Seeing potential in her, he instead asked her to do errands for him as rent. Her first errand, and first true shadowrun, involved smuggling illegal BTLs into Seattle to give to overstressed Lone Star officers. Sparkles continued to perform runs, eventually reaching a level where her landlord was paying her in cash for the work she was doing. It was then, at the age of eighteen, that she first began to learn how to deck, following in the footprints of her parents.

Sadly, the arrangement she had could not last forever. A run gone bad by another team brought Knight Errant attention upon her landlord and fixer in 2072, resulting in his death and the deaths of most of his shadowrunners in the resulting firefights. Sparkles herself, never officially on his books as more than a tenant, managed to escape KE attention. Seeing the area as tainted, she gathered what money she could, moved to a different part of the Barrens, and set up shop to continue running.

Strangely, in 2073, a woman named Daniella Humperdink mysteriously disappeared and, a month later, Sparkles started carrying a fake SIN attached to that name. No one has made the connection yet.

Appearance

A human, standing five feet eight inches tall. She has brown hair and eyes, with a datajack hidden on the back of her head. She often wears an army surplus armored jacket, under which she likes to hide guns and her cyberdeck. She keeps a commlink on her belt, though it's an obvious decoy. Her eyes are only obvious as cybereyes if one looks very close and notices how the light unnaturally reflects off them.

Yeah, claymore is overkill, this is true. Also, beyond what a starting character can afford.

I'll stick to the Katana, but flavour it as a straighter-bladed european equivalent.

I like the style of game you've laid out Moneyspider, and as I said before the idea of randomly generated runs especially intrigues me! Unfortunately, I just comitted to something like a 70 hour work week recently, so I'm not 100% that my guy will be 100% by Saturday. I am working on him, though, and I intend for him to be the blackest, darkest character in the group in terms of morality. This dude used to casually murder other human beings for their kidneys to earn a paycheck; Shadowrunner is a step up in morality for him. That said, he's not a sociopath, and his Code of Honor is meant to reflect that. And yeah, I'll be adding women to it. His Code of Honor as I see it:
- No killing or harming kids, no matter what. If a kid attacks him, he will use only non-lethal force and demand the same of others. ("Kid" here defined as anybody under the age of 20 or similarly young enough).
- No killing other people in places/situations where a kid might witness it.
- No killing people who have children, unless being paid to specifically do so. This is more emotional than rational, but basically he's more liable to be swayed by "please! I have a wife and kids!" than most.
- No killing women unless being paid specifically to do so. If he encounters female combatants, he will always opt for a non-lethal takedown, even when it may not be wise to do so. I'm trusting that the GM won't screw me over with "the security guard with a gas mask on you just killed was actually a lady! Suck your extra Notoriety!" But whatever.

Mechanically the guy is pretty close to ready, just need to buy ammo and figure out a few other odds and ends. Here's a rough start at a backgorund, as well:

Quote
Johannes Sauvant grew up a SINless urchin, scraping together a living in the unforgiving alleyways of the Berlin sprawl. Unable to qualify for a job with SK, Johannes fell in with the next best thing; organized crime. Industrial accidents, shadowruns, and general corporate backstabbing meant organlegging was a thriving business. Young Johannes cut his teeth on extraction and wetwork for a ring of organ thieves, selling cyberware, bioware, and good ol' fashioned kidneys to the highest bidder.

Early on, Johannes had a suspicion that his bosses were well-connected, possibly Vory, but he played the part of the good little cronie and kept his mouth shut for as long as the nuyen flowed. As part of the organlegging ring, Johannes Sauvant enjoyed a rather nice "employee discount" and got his pick of the used bioware and cyberware that came flowing through the shadow clinics. Eventually, he became a street samurai of some infamy, well-known as a loyal soldier of the organlegging clincs. Soon, his loyalty was rewarded with a posh station in the UCAS.

An enforcer for the organlegging operation, Johannes Sauvant soon earned the nickname "Frankenstein" due to his heavy Germanic accent and the fact that he was literally stitched together from the parts of dead man. In the UCAS, Johannes earned a greater degree of autonomy, which he used to probe into the true identities and motivations of his benefactors.

What he learned scarred him deeply.

His employers, it seemed, were not Vory at all, but Tamanous. He even suspected that his direct superior was some type of vampire or ghoul. The longer "Frankie" stayed in the organization, the more disgusted he became with the day-to-day realities. His breaking point came when he was asked to stand guard over a nondescript warehouse in Yonkers, New York. Curiousity got the better of him, and he took a peek inside under the pretense of needing to use the facilities. What he discovered inside still gives him nightmares; the warehouse basement was filled with the corpses of children. From that moment on, Johannes vowed that he would extricate himself from the organlegging "business"... and take out as many of the heartless, ghoulish monsters that ran it as possible.

Thanks for the advice Ve4grm, Moneyspider. But, I'm actually quite comfortable not facing and building a fairly oblivious, mousy, little mage. But, we'll see what catches my eye. Might just have to take glitch as a flaw. :D
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: ve4grm on <04-11-14/1203:11>
@ismilealot - Sounds fine to me. I was just talking because my home group has a Shaman/Face, so I've seen it done. There's always the character who approaches negotiation from an academic angle, if that appeals. Or forget the face aspects entirely. The decker should have us covered for Negotiation, and I can pull off some Intimidate, so it's probably cool.

Glitch? Do you mean Gremlins? That's a fun one. That Shaman I mentioned took max-level Gremlins. He can barely hold a gun without shooting himself. When he needed to decide on an AR icon, the technomancer forcefully set his to an anthropomorphic toilet, and because of Gremlins, the group dictated that the Shaman couldn't figure out how to change it back.

I did a scan of the vechicle lists in the core rule book.   What type of crafts would you guys look like for the team?  Ground craft that can transport the team is a given, but what about a aircraft or watercraft?
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: ve4grm on <04-12-14/1313:13>
@Sincereagape - If you have the money, I don't think anyone would object to a boat or aircraft. That said, airplanes are freaking expensive (except for the one-man ultralight, which could be useful).

As such, rather than getting anything more than the ultralight (Artemis Nightwing), I'd rather see you get more and/or better drones.

But yeah, if you have an extra $41,000 laying around, an Otter and a Nightwing could prove very useful.
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: Moneyspider on <04-12-14/2226:36>
Having a plane or boat would deffenately open up options for what I could throw at you. Just keep in mind I'm not pulling punches so if you're fancy plane gets shot down or the boat capsizes... well it'll be worse then a fendebender. So totally go for it, just play smart.  8)

I ended up working a double today so I haven't gotten the OOC thread up yet, looking like tommorrow instead. Who still needs characters and who's ready for a final review?

I'm still slapping a coat of polish on "Frankenstein" and would frankly appreciate the extra time. In the middle of a 70-hour workweek, heh. Next week should be more doable, though.

p1erxOR still needs to post his decker. I would love the slot, but not enough to steal it from someone who mentioned they have the numbers done before I even posted my sheet. After all, p1 did get here first and it would be unfair of me to steal their spot just because I got my sheet posted faster.

I would make a bad, bad runner in real life >.>

I won't have time to study and make the build until tues. But, a glance over the powers suggested the backstory for an illusion mage. If you like the backstory I'll make her and submit her. If not, then once more to the drawing board for me.

Jane Door, alias Twisted Sister, : Even nature hated Jane. It had made her a dwarf. There was absolutely nothing, remarkable or noticeable about Jane. She got ignored and passed over by everybody. School was a misery, not good enough for sports, or academics or band, or choir she was outcast everywhere she went. And then came the bullying. Her life went from miserable to hell in just a few short months. And stayed that way. Until the day she balled up that hatred and threw it at the girl making fun of her yet again. The pretty little prom queen princess doubled over in agony. And Jane was happy about it, and really hoping she'd done that. It kinda felt like she'd done that. She started experimenting after that. Using her hatred to cause little things. Things that couldn't directly be pinned to her. And found out that she could. It was her revenge. And every bit of torture they visited on her fueled her. It wasn't more than that. Until the day a shadowrunner recognized the blank, slackjawed expression of stupidity on her plain little dwarven face was the look of a mage practicing her art. And knew he could use that sort of distraction on his next run. He offered her the chance for nuyen for doing what came naturally. Jane took it, and hasn't looked back.

Hi guys.  I might need to pull out of this unless I am able to play the racist elf. Real life is very busy and because I can get obsessed about things very easily, I won't be able to create a new character without getting I much into it and letting RL suffer

If this is not possible i understand and will step Aside for a replacement.  I like the sound of where this is going and the style money spider presents, sadly the only way I can play is as the aspected magician. Elf supremacist.

p1ex0R - Looks good except I don't see any qualities, if you haven't picked them Ex wife and son make awesome dependents.
Sincereagape - Sorry bro, I know how RL can be. But the Racist would be too difficult to deal with I think. The character works mechanically so if you just wanted to change the racism and name that would work but I understand if you don't.
Bewilderbeast - Looks good just get me the final thing.
ismilealot - Alright get me something by tuesday. The history looks fine.
ve4grm - Looks good on the character sheet , congrats on a boyfriend that's not a dependent I don't think I've ever seen that.

Alright so If Sincereagape does step down then MortimerBane is up.
The Group as of right now is missing a healer, spell slinger, driver, and demolitions. So for people working on characters still might want to throw some in those directions, though they are not essential.

I'd like to know how the bench is looking as well, I like the sound of this a lot but naturally I just finished moving half way across the country so I missed the beginning stages.  I'm always late to these posts!

MortimerBane just got called up to the big league, so if I'm not mistaken I'm next on the bench, then poindexter and then slowdeck.

I'm late to the party, but I'll add myself to the bench if you suddenly find yourself in need of players. I've got an Elf physical adept (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=16065.0), a Dwarf rigger (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=15964.0), and an Elf Manipulation-style Magician (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=16098.0) ready to play.

@ismilealot - I like the mage. Dwarf, right?

What are the (+X) notes beside the attributes? Points spent? If so, they don't add up to 16.

What's the character Biased against? Or have you decided?
Title: Re: Randomly Generated runs
Post by: Agonar on <04-15-14/2001:22>
looks like it should be 14 from the priority, just a typo with the 16.. so that's what the (+x)'s are.. attribute points spent.

I can provide an illusion of you working hard that'll fool even the security camera's. The rest of the team can get you in disguise and get you in and out of 3 different vehicles without anyone the wiser until it's far to late. The decker can have wiped our trail off of every security camera as well as disabled any trace on you. Face can pull a few string with their contacts to have fake SIN's and a credstick by nightfall. Don't worry chief, we got this.

CONTACTS
Fixer- A former Saeder-Krupp corporate spook who pissed off the wrong dragon and was forced to live fully in the shadows, Viktor Gold knew Johannes by reputation and made a point of looking him up. The two don't trust each other at all, but Johannes is good at wetwork and infilitration and Gold is good at making connections, so they tolerate each other for as long as it's mutually beneficial.Loyalty 1, Connection 4
Street Doc- Dr. Henry Swaim. Johannes' co-conspirator, Dr. Henry Swaim was the man who helped Frankenstein extricate himself from Tanamous. They are loyal to each other and trust one another; but they are by no means friends. Whereas Johannes was sickened by the depths of depravity of Tanamous, Dr. Henry Swaim felt the strictures of the organlegging business model were too... restrictive. A literal mad genius, Swaim was disatisfied with "merely" chopping orphans up for parts. He eagerly installed most of Johannes' nicer cyber and bioware (such as his synaptic boosters) just to prove that he could. He performs routine maintenance work for Johannes to this day in his leaky sub-basement street clinic, and in exchange, Johannes provides him with specimens, er, future clients and also a bit of protection and muscle. Loyalty 3, Connection 2

Used Muscle Toner 3 (-72,000, -.75 Essence)

He found a like-minded compatriot in Dr. Henry Swaim, a street doc who "processed" the syndicates "raw material" but who felt his talents were being pigeonholed by a bunch of thugs with no vision. When Frankenstein's immediate superiors got involved in an ugly turf war and alienated the larger Tamanous community with some bad strategic moves, the pair had their opportunity. Submitting himself to Dr. Henry Swaim's "upgrades," Johannes had some of his nicer 'ware and installed. After a perfunctory healing period, he unceremoniously slaughtered the ring's leadership and made for the good ol' UCAS. Due to the bad blood within Tamanous, nobody is looking for Frankenstein and the good doctor... you know. Hopefully.

The pair are now trying to establish themselves as a "legitimate" shadowrunner and a "legitimate" street doctor, respectively. Both are a step up in terms of morality from their previous careers.

@Moneyspider - That's fine, man. I've just seen games fizzle before they start before, and wanted to check in. Have you talked to MortimerBane?

Let us know when you're ready to go.

.

@Bewilderbeast - Nice. A little confused on when you left Berlin and came to the UCAS, though. You mention it in both paragraphs 2 and 6.

With my character also having spent some time in the anarchy state, I'm wondering how that affects backgrounds. With your notoriety, it seems likely that I'd heard of you. Any ideas how we might have come to be working together? I could think of a few, including having run jobs either for or against your employer in the past, but I'm wondering what your thoughts might be.
