Title: Watch Dogs
Post by: Backgammon on <05-28-14/1558:46>
So, haven't had time to play more than like 2 hours into this, but it's certainly illustrating what I think Deckers should be doing in Shadowrun.

This is definitely on my list, but will likely hold off until in comes up on a Steam sale. Really strange mix of reviews... :-\

I'm digging it.  Imagine if you had a backdoor into every device that could only run a spoof command.  That's basically what we've got here.

I don't know - I don't think there's a command that would normally let you blow up an underground steam pipe.  :P

I'm enjoying this game a great deal, though.

As Uplay servers are running, I am just about to star...
Ive heard it has some interresting multiplayer possibilities, so maybe I`ll see you later in Chicago ;)

Uplay seems to be having intermittant problems for some folks on all platforms. As far as anyone can tell their system isn't robust enough to handle the volume of authentication requests.

It appears that Ubisoft still hasn't learned from the last couple of Uplay launches.

Meanwhile people playing pirated versions have no issues. Way to support piracy, Ubisoft!

I got a couple hours in yesterday, then my PC hit a few blue screens.  Downloading new drivers and trying a few other things, now, and hopefully it'll run a little more smoothly.

This is a strangely appropriate game for that to happen with...

This makes me wonder... will its expansion be about hacking a game about hacking so you can mine currency?

And this is why you turn your grenades wireless OFF! ;D

Actually, this would make more sense in Shadowrun than in Watch Dogs. In WD there's no reason those pipes would have any sort of wireless connectivity. In SR, it is HIGHLY likely they would have an AR interface for technicians to run controls and quality checks. With the right bit of hacking, you could turn off the safeties and make them explode.

Well, Watch Dogs DOES have a conceit that handily explains both all that online stuff, as well as how you can hack shit so quickly - fucking everything is on the ctOS, after all, so having your backdoors into that lets you do anything.  So, any controls that might be related to those pipes (such as pressure valves) are controlled by the same system as everything else.

I do love that when you blow up someone's explosives, one of the lines they can have is something along the lines of "That's impossible!  This kit's supposed to have 5 fail-safes!".

guess the dogs missed the memo about needing to go get bombs added to their collars. :P

You're typing your urls wrong. It should be [ url=http://whatever]text, not [ url=http://whatevertext.

Yep, it's SR4A Hacking indeed!  Things got a little more complicated in SR5.  ;)

This is also a great game to demonstrate how a "clean" view of AR works, or someone with a high firewall allowing only what they want to see.  Add some advertizements and such, and you have Shadowrun's AR.  ;D

To those who think that it might be too hard in the modern age.

Where I'm at there are some quite long and complex pipe lines. That people spend a lot of time looking at screens that tell them about flow rate, pressure and the like. While they're not wireless due to the distance, I can see someone causing merry hell if they got into the system and wanted to raise hell.

Of course, this is very much based on second and third hand accounts, so a pinch of salt is recommended here. None the less, not so out there.

Though I *love* sandbox games, there is something about this one that is ... off for me. I feel exactly the way you do. Not sure why.
