Title: Adept with Energy Drain

So, Infected Adept uses Energy Drain, doubles their Essence, channels that into his Magic attribute, thus boosting their total number of Power Points.

Can the Adept basically spend those points on Powers, as they wish? For as long as they last?

I don't see why not, since it is basically a form of Infusion Metamagic, but I would insist they be used only on powers the adept already has or something that they have used or know, but that seems super fluffy.
