Title: Cars, Weapon Mounts and Concealability
Post by: JimmyCrisis on <06-12-14/2003:57>
So, my runner just bought a Ferrari Diabolus (Eurocar Westwind 3000) and had it loaded out with your standard off-the-grid fair (spoof chip, morphing plate, chameleon coating) and a couple of nice toys (Ares Thunderstruck gauss rifle and Ares Lancer laser rifle).  My concern is that I want to be able to use the car to get to and from meets and high-class establishments as well as on the run without Knight Errant converging on my arm-to-the-teeth hoop at every stoplight.  Not that they'd catch me on the streets, but I don't want to walk out of Dante's Inferno and into a SWAT van.

Without the Rigger splat book I'm left with little options.  I figure the chameleon coating and customized design can be used to actively camouflage the weapons (as performance parts or accessories, for instance) so that their function isn't obvious or apparent until they are used (out of the prying eyes of Knight Errant).  I do commute through the barrens, on occasion.  Personally, I'd prefer to have the gauss cannon pop out of the hood, and the laser to fire from the tail lights, but I don't know if that's reasonable.

No doubt the car is going to look unique, and chameleon coating isn't going to render it anonymous, what with all the three Diabolus's out there in Seattle (wild conjecture).  I still want to use it as my 'bat-mobile'.  This is for a Samurai/Face smuggler, so being able to show up to a classy place and dressed to the nines is important, as well as burning rubber and blasting things.  Even on the same night.

Any advice?  How do you handle weapon mounts in your game?

I'm using the vehicle/drone mod rules from Arsenal. They can be used pretty much as-is with just minor changes.

By those rules, Internal weapon mounts add +1000¥ and +2F Avail. Concealed internal weapon mods add +4000¥ and +4F. They give -2 and -6 Concealability modifier respectively to notice the vehicle is armed. The extended test to install them would be [6, 6 hours] for the internal and [10, 6 hours] for the concealed internal.

Good to know.  I don't think I ever picked up the 4th edition rigger book.  Thanks!

How did your rigger get a Gauss rifle?  That thing is at a 24F availability!

depends on which page you read, the amazing editing process shows it as 12F in its main listing! :-)

LOL I know - it just strikes me that a 12 availability would never be possible for something like that.  Huge typo, in my mind.

absolutely. didn't stop me from immediately creating a rigger with one of those suckers installed onto a steel lynx though!
gets around the whole battery pack at huge avail issue too :-)

Simple!  This isn't for my rigger, this is for a street samurai/ face.  The other face and the rigger helped with the availability roll (at the full 24, btw) and everyone spent edge.  The rigger did all the installation, too.  We had about a month of downtime between jobs.

We got the money from selling a cyberdeck we found on an Aztechnology HTR team - the lieutenant had a Shiawase Cyber 5, as the NPC stats from the book.  I took him down with a sniper rifle.  I didn't want to spend it on cyberware, I've been playing the character since 5th came out and I'm at the point where I need to upgrade my cyberlimbs and make an essence hole before I can install anything else.

My Sammy at near max reaction, so even without a VCR, I've got a pretty solid dice pool.  Still have room left for a rating 1 VCR, but I don't think I'll need it.

Damn, dude - well done.  :)
