Hey dudes and dudettes,
I'm proud to announce the first project from Wordsmith Games (my superhero alter ego) just went live on Kickstarter. Strays is about as not-cyberpunk as it gets, being a game designed to help older gamers introduce kiddos to the hobby, a gateway game, if you will; it's a PG-rated, cutesy, animated, sort of world, with friendly animals working together to help each other and protect kids. It uses the Fate Accelerated Edition rules (with permission), so it's also about as non-crunchy as a game gets.
Wordsmith Games is my attempt at forming my own teeny tiny little game company, so that I can blow off steam with side projects like this, supplementing my income and stretching my legs a little (while still remaining active as a freelancer, don't get me wrong!). Strays is our flagship product, and the Kickstarter's been live for about twenty minutes now! So do me a favor and swing by, check it out, pledge if you'd like, and -- kind of most of all -- spread the word for me! Link away, tell your buddies, and wish me luck!

Thanks for the head-up. While not really in my interest zone, will keep an eye on it.

Excellent idea! I'm about to have a daughter, so we're a little ways off from being able to use this product, but I'm supporting it anyway. :)
-
Thanks, and (most of all) congrats on the coming kiddo. :)

The facebook share link on the site does not seem to be working, HTTP 500 Internal Server Error.

Not really my thing (although it can be fun for a one-off one night with a couple of friends and a lot of beer or wine), but I've forwarded to a friend who has 5 kids and expressed an interest in doing some roleplay with them.

Hmm -- that'd be something on Kickstarter's end, not something I set up. Without knowing your Kickstarter ID, etc, I can't really submit an error report or anything, either. Is there a bug report button somewhere on your end?

Went back in to try again and it is working now, maybe they were doing maintenance or something earlier.

Cool, glad it worked out for you (and thanks for WANTING to share it, btw!).

Are you kidding?
A child friendly gateway game to lead wee tots into the gaming fold?
Yesssssssss....*Mr. Burns finger steeple*
I like the option to have a pet's pic changed into a sketch or even an addition.
Will have to see what the budget will allow, but at least my sharing it my other gaming buddies may join in.

Whew! We're over $2,000 now ($2,500 is our initial funding goal!), which is awesome. I've sent out the first couple updates, including today's, which also highlighted an artist -- specifically Chelsea and her pet portraits, which folks haven't gotten to see yet!
I'm hoping this early momentum continues, and I can send out the stretch-goal wave of art assignments soon. :)

Grats on making initial goal!

I'm not a fan of being around children in general, so it's not a product for me, but I truly do appreciate the effort to keep a steady supply of younglings learning the value and fun of tabletop RPGs. Somebody has to do it and I'm glad there are people like you making the effort. And congratulations on reaching your initial goal so quickly!
-
Thanks!
I'm thrilled we got funded so early, I was kind of planning on it not happening for another couple of weeks. Here's hoping we can keep some momentum going and start tackling those stretch goals soon.

Now comes the joy of fulfilling the KS... ;)
Great to see this funded!!

Sounds similar in intent to "DAWG the RPG" in KODT150.
Not my cup of tea but it seems popular enough in certain circles.

And, just FYI, but I totally get it, to the folks who just aren't into it. I know it's kind of the least cyberpunk start-up project I could go with, and honestly it's a lot lighter and fluffier (literally, as it turns out) than some future products I've got planned...so I get that there's not a lot of thematic similarity between Strays and Shadowrun. I just also know the average Shadowrun gamer's about the age bracket I'm shooting for (many in their 30s and 40s, wanting to introduce their kids to gaming, maybe), and that I've gotta spread the word where and how I can.
So! No hard feelings, believe me, fellas, for those who just don't dig the premise. I get it! I just hope y'all don't mind me at least trying to advertise a little, where I'm half-way known. :)

No offense meant or taken.
I am in your stated demographic but I'm starting my son out with the SciFi genre (Star Frontiers, same as I started).
It's the pretending to be animals (when you could be aliens, superheroes, etc...) thing that isn't my cup of tea. As I said, though, it appears to be wildy popular in some households.
