Just received an email from DTRPG that the core rulebool PDF has been updated. Anyone have any insight as to changes/nature of updates? Thanks
-
Nope, but there's the blog entry on the catalyst page that says,
"And second, a fully corrected PDF—folding in all official errata-to-date—for Shadowrun, Fifth Edition has just been released. (For those who already purchased that item, you should be receiving a notification via email to download that new PDF.)"
Not sure if that means just the official errata that we have seen so far, or whether some other fixes/updates will be in there too.
Though BattleShop hasn't sent me an update email yet, which makes me sad.
-
So far all the changes listed in the 5th Ed Errata (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/126104/Shadowrun-Fifth-Edition-Core-Rulebook-Errata) are in the revised version.
As for other changes, have not seen any, but will have to go through the errata submitted here and then flip back and forth with the new version to see if they integrated anything else.
-
A quick check of the one thing I know was missing: Drone autosofts have a price now! Rating*2 Avail, Rating*500 price. They're on the table on page 442, under the Agents. Interestingly, they don't have a maximum rating listed. Not sure if that's an error or if Autosofts are supposed to be able to go up to 12 like skills now.
I can't remember what the other errors were off the top of my head, so I'll have to do more digging to see what the book changed
-
Thanks guys...hadn't seen the blog post.
-
I don't suppose the spelling mistakes and grammatical errors got fixed?
And just when I got used to where the book sat on my iPad list! Lol
-
I don't suppose the spelling mistakes and grammatical errors got fixed?
Some of them did. On page 1 WorldWatch has been replaced by WordWatch.
-
Shadowrun slang gets bumped from page 15 up to page 8.
Here is a fun update:
Tripod: The tripod provides a stable base to fire a weapon low to the ground with the user kneeling or sit- ting. A tripod can be attached to the underbarrel mount and provides 6 points of Recoil Compensation when properly deployed. Attaching a tripod takes one minute. Folding up or deploying a tripod is a Complex Action, as is removing it. Wireless: Folding up, deploying, or removing the tripod is a Free Action.
Tripod: The tripod provides a stable base to fire a weapon low to the ground with the user kneeling or sitting. A tripod can be attached to the underbarrel mount and provides 6 points of Recoil Compensation when properly deployed. Attaching a tripod takes one minute. Folding up or deploying the bipod is a Free Action. Wireless: Folding up, deploying, or removing the tripod is a Free Action.
Emphasis mine.
So Folding up or deploying the tripod becomes a free action, so you don't need wireless for this bit since the bonus is the same.
The only advantage from going wireless in regards to the tripod is removing becomes a free action (some kind of auto-release/eject I suppose), but now it doesn't tell you how long it takes to remove without wireless on(which is still a complex action I assume).
Edit: Nath just pointed this out. It goes from being a tripod in original to a bipod in the revised version when talking about folding/deploying, maybe wireless is needed to deploy the third leg of a tripod?
Minor but it is funny the correction already needs a correction. :P
-
Seconded on the grammar; so far I've spotted a few misplaced words that have been corrected, not sure how extensive this is.
I did notice one rule change that didn't make it into the errata document apparently was in the errata afterall:
P134; Climbing Table
Assisted climbing down (rappelling) went from "2 meters" to "20 meters + 1 meter per hit". That makes a LOT more sense, even if it was written out in the Rappelling text previously :)
Unfortunately, the weird wording of Magical Skills from the Errata has been inserted;
P142, Magical Skills
Magic skills are reserved for those who practice magic. In order to acquire magic-specific skills, characters must be an Aspected Magician, Magician, or Mystic Adept. In order to use these skills, their Magic rating must be 1 or higher. Please visit Magic, p. 276, for all your Magical skill-using needs.
So, does that mean Adepts can't take Arcana? I mean, really?
EDIT:
Seeing as how the Gunnery rules were apparently updated as per the errata, I'm going to go ahead and call Aaron's reading of the remote operations part invalid; he referred to it as "probably a typo" or some such, but since manual gunnery has been updated to Gunnery + Agility instead of Weapon Skill + Agility, while remote gunner remains Gunnery + Logic, it's a safe bet that it actually IS Gunnery + Logic for remote operations of vehicle weapons. Yay, one thing Riggers have got going for them...
-
It's funny because even mundanes are supposed to be able to take Arcana as Magical Theory. It's a university course according to Street Grimoire
-
Yeah, I don't see why magical theory can't be taught to mundanes. (As an academic skill)
Plenty of real science is founded on things that we can't directly observe ourselves but someone else can test or has tested.
-
Arcana isn't a 'magic-specific' skill, however. You don't need magic to do it. Astral Combat and Assensing is still debatable, however, which is a problem for adepts who want to, you know, astrally perceive or do things with it. Of course, you could also look at it with the viewpoint of 'what attribute do you roll it with?' If it's magic, it's a magic-specific skill, if not, others can pick it up.
-
MijRai
I agree with you in principle, but unfortunately, those three skills are listed under the Magic Skills section. If only they had written "In order to acquire skills linked to the Magic attribute", this could easily have been avoided, and this was hotly debated during the official errata discussion so I doubt they'd be unaware of this particular artifact.
-
And as the quoted text mentions, it's magic-specific skills, not skills in the Magic section. It's word-lawyer-ish, but still a possibility. It's a murky subject, for sure, but in another other discussion, the writer of that comment did specify what he meant (a bit late, but still a very useful clarification).

Wow. Good work, Larsine. I was wondering why my table of contents seemed messed up.
Once again, I can't help but shake my head and be a little annoyed at the quality of editing and proofing when even the corrections have errors, missed several things that should have been corrected and weren't, and honestly feels like it introduced more errors than it replaced by totally screwing up the Table of Contents. I'm kind of regretting saving over my original PDF, since I primarily use it for quick reference and this seriously messes me up.
I also completely disagree with the change to Connection for contacts. I don't understand what Catalyst's obsession with giving Limit bonuses instead of dice pool bonuses is, but it's starting to get on my nerves. The sample fixer already has a Social Limit of 7 on a dice pool of 14 for Negotiations. Having a Connection 6 fixer now ups that to 13 limit on 14 dice. Big whoop. And a mythical Connection 12 Fixer has a limit higher than his dice pool, how helpful.
Meanwhile, my Face adept player who's only earned 14 karma so far has 18 dice on Negotiation and a Social Limit of 13. He's now better at getting gear than his Connection 6 Fixer. Thanks, Catalyst!

Wow, thanks Larsine.

Which is probably what I should have done when I wrote that for the errata (yeah, that boo-boo is mine). I was dead set against adepts learning sorcery, though, so I fixed one problem and created a whole new one....

There's no way you're gonna get new artwork, and it's an easier fix than remaking the whole archetype to match that artwork (though I'm sure Wak would have, if he'd been asked).
As the long, proud, tradition of Shadowrun archetype SNAFUs go, this one was startlingly easy to smooth over, at least. Well, that line of it was, anyways.
-
Well, if there's a bright side to this, is that now I kind of want to see an ACTUAL official Troll Poser quality.
Send a memo over for Run Faster?

Voice Control is listed for Kyra in character creation with 0.25PP, but costs 0.5PP according to p. 311.
