0 hits on first test, so he would have tried again after a time (whatever interval so the trying again penalty doesn't apply), then 2 hits and a Glitch! Maybe the facemask comes out looking a little weird? Still, 2 hits, I'll take it even if I do look odd...

Using the disguise I've created:
Disguise: Using face mask (http://orokos.com/roll/207397): 9d6t5 4
4 hits; anyone trying to recognize me for who I really am/see through the disguise has to succeed in a Perception (4) test.

== Contacts ==
Anatoly Ireshkova (Vory Avtorityet) (4, 3)
Anatoly Ireshkova is a stalwart human male in his late 40's. At just under 2m tall and weighing approximately 160kg he is well built, though the years have taken their toll on the Vory captain and he's exibiting signs of not only a gut but also slight balding. He wears his tattoos openly when weather permits, as befits a high ranking member of the Vory.

The Russian mobster has known Cyclone for a little over 2 years, and the two have developed an amicable working relationship as Cyclone has collected several bounties for the Vory. He's retrieved runaway family members, disloyal soldiers, and dearly loved pets, as well as taken out a few hard targets for them.

Evgeny Bronislaw (ROSS Instructor/Friend) (1, 5)
Evgeny Bronislaw is a male ork in his mid 30s who stands approximately 2.2m tall and weighs around 140kg. He spent several years in the brutal hands of the Russian Army, an experience that left him somewhat worse for wear. During his service, however, he received extensive training in the Rossiyskaya Otechestvennaya Sistema Samozashchity (ROSS) martial arts system, and lately he has been teaching Cyclone what he knows.

Under Evengy's tutelage, Cyclone has learned to harness the speed and strength his multiple cybernetic limbs provide him with, striking hard and fast in order to ensure that the opponent goes down quickly and stays down if combat is inevitable.

Over the past two years the two former soldiers have become friends, and they frequently hang out, drinking cheap vodka and swapping stories of their latest experiences.

== Description ==
Marcus is tall for a human at 2.1m, and he's built like a brick given his extensive cybernetic limbs. He usually wears a Lined Coat with form-fitting armor and cold weather gear underneath, as well as a helmet, goggles, and respirator. Additionally, he has earbuds and goggles to aid in detecting potential threats and to deal with harsh winter climates.

== Background ==
Marcus was born to William and Carol Evans, both medical professionals at Ares in Seattle. His parents had high expectations for him and his two sisters, but despite private instructors and all the tutorsofts money could buy he struggled due to a severe learning disability. As a freshman at the prestigious Bellevue High School, he attended a UCAS military recruiting drive and enlisted in the UCAS Army at only 16 years old, where he thrived for the first time in his life. He was wounded in combat multiple times and received full cyberlimb replacements for arms, legs, and torso as a result. At age 27, after 11 years of exemplary service and at the rank of Master Sergeant, he suffered a mental breakdown and received an honorable discharge after his parents called in a few favors, narrowly avoiding charges of drug use and dereliction of duty. Disillusioned with civilian life and the petty concerns of ordinary people, he moved to Chicago after a former team mate arranged for a short-term security contract there. Life in the feral city suited him well, and since men with his skill set were in steady demand he decided to stay for a while before moving on, working as a Bounty Hunter and bodyguard, amongst other things.

Cyclone lives a simple life and is mostly just interested in making enough to get by, but he is not a ruthless mercenary. While he favours non-lethal means because live bounties pay better, he is not above killing or changing allegiances for the right price or cause; Ares still holds a place in his heart, and Horizon's PR machine has him believing in their cause. Between his intimidating presence, formidable combat prowess, and rich military background, only time will tell what the future holds.

== Concept ==
Heavily armed and armored cyber samurai, based on Adam Jensen from the Deus Ex: Human Revolution video game.

== Notes ==
In addition to his cyber implant weaponry and other bladed weapons, he carries two firearms; a Ruger Super Warhawk held in a concealed belted holster secured to his right thigh with additional rounds on the belt, and an Ares Alpha usually stored in pieces in the two smuggling compartments in his legs. In addition to the broken down Alpha, the smuggling compartment in his left leg holds illegal items like Explosive rounds, grenades, and all of his illegal drugs, while the survival kit backpack holds various items like the legal drugs and emergency field dressings. The lined coat holds a miniwelder and his commlink, amongst other things.

Essentially, it's a system that can "can see through walls and obstacles and create a three-dimensional map of the area"; in addition, it can also detect cyberware and weapons in the same way as millimeter-wave radar.

Should be enough to spot obvious things like security cameras, external door locks, etc. Should also give me an idea of where the entrance and exit points of the building is. If I don't have a complete map, I'll walk down the street to ping the next building corner with ultrawideband radar before heading inside.

And if Trisk does end up firing off a round and Marcus hears it, he'll be using his Spatial Recognizer to figure out where it came from.

So no obvious signs of ares on it?

And I take it my assumption that it looks like they are about to do a mafia hit on the boys to send a message is right?

What modifiers would I have to fire a shot at that borg. I'm pretty sure I couldn't kill him, not with one bullet, but I could possibly give the other guys a chance in the ensuing confusion.

Also, since i'm not yet in combat, I'd like to take a free action, to focus with my hearing on the group before I do anything. What modifiers do I take?

Are the Firewatch members running commlinks in Active or Passive mode (automatic success if they are)? If they are, he'll send them the UCAS Army equivalent of a "Flash / Thunder" IFF check, along with a standard UCAS Army go/no go code for if they are in trouble.

If they aren't, Marcus doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of spotting them, so he'll verbalize the challenge instead to see what kind of reaction that gets out of people.

If Marcus has time for it, he will line up a shot on the closest Borg (one Combat Turn worth of Take Aim i.e. 2 Simple Actions over 3 seconds), and prepare to use a free action to send a message / shout out the IFF challenge and distress codeword(s). If anyone responds with a confirmation that they are in trouble, Marcus will take the shot. If not he'll fade away into the closest nearby alley and not disrupt whatever operation they are running...

Yes, they are running an active signal. It stops for a moment as they get your code word. You can see the Ares guys kind of look at each other and you receive the correct code word back. Not one second later you get the Go code to engage. You have managed to sneak beside a packed snow bank. Its not much cover, but it'll keep you concealed well enough.

Title: Re: [OOC] Of Fire and Ice
Post by: martinchaen on <07-17-14/1651:12>
You did, a little bit ;)

Normally, you should roll for surprise (page 165).

Boils down to this:
Everyone rolls a Surprise test (Reaction + Intuition).
All, some, or none of the combatants may get a chance to perceive something is going down; if they succeed at a Perception test (opposed or success, depending on GM) they get a +3 modifier to their roll.
If some of the combatants are Ambushing (i.e. laying in wait with a weapon readied), they get +6 to the roll.

Characters (PCs and NPCs both) cannot act against someone who scores higher on their Surprise roll than themselves. So, Marcus rolled a 5; if one of the Borgs rolled higher, Marcus wouldn't be able to act against that Borg until the next Initiative Pass.

EDIT:
Like Number 2 said, though; it's all good ;)

Just FYI.

intuitive (http://orokos.com/roll/207831): 9d6 24

So plus nine gives me 33 init if im correct on thst that with two passes, right?
Title: Re: [OOC] Of Fire and Ice
Post by: martinchaen on <07-17-14/1712:55>
Not quite;

Initiative in SR4 is handled differently. You roll your Reaction + Intuition, then add the number of hits to the sum of your Reaction + Intuition. On the roll you linked, you got 1 hit (ouch) which adds to your 9, making your Initiative Score 10.

The number of Initiative Passes is determined by gear; Marcus is unaugmented in terms of initiative passes, so he only gets one, but he has a high reaction and intuition, and so will act on 18 in the next initiative pass if Number 2 will let us keep the rolls.

Marcus will fire at the closest bad guy; I just realized that I can't take consecutive take aim actions with the Ruger, so between flare comp, thermographics, and take aim, I don't think I have any negative modifiers due to wind (smartgun), visibility (thermographics and flare comp), and range (take aim). If I do, just take off dice as needed on the roll, Number 2, if you don't mind.

You don't have any negative modifiers Martinchaen (You're only like, 15 feet away). None of the men appear armed, but from what you saw from the last Borg in the way he had his hands, you figure that they have cyberweapons implanted into them.

Well the punched borg needs to roll a defense check against my bullet if he even gets one. Or he needs to roll vs my damage.

So far its Mart then me until we get the initiative of the others

Marcus' turn.

Quote from: Dice Rolls
Movement: Charging closest Borg
Free Action: Ready Arm Blade
Complex Action: Melee Attack (http://orokos.com/roll/207983): 16d6t5 1

Well, definitely spending a point of edge rerolling that one...
Complex Action: Melee Attack (http://orokos.com/roll/207984): 15d6t5 6
Much better.

That's 9P base + 7 hits, -1 AP, and if he has 0 Reach he takes a negative 1 to defend.

Title: Re: [OOC] Of Fire and Ice

Sports rifles are still considered fairly large caliber, being. .308 or more modern day equivalent quite frequently.

Most modern armies use .223 caliber for their Assault Rifles, so it would still be considered large caliber as far as Marcus is concerned.

And I do believe it is your turn. I have no idea what the scene looks like right now to be honest, with 3 corpsec types and Marcus standing in between 5 (?) dead or dying (or at least hurt) Borg, all of whom I believe are on the ground.

Three have been shot. Two by me, one by you. The second one i shot was puched earlier for little damage. Fourth one is bleading from a wound, and was still up and fighting, at least until you charged him.

Ares are standing there, one armed with a dagger the other his fists. Gmc bulldog approaching fast, drone over head controlled by rigger in safe place. Im up on the roof with my rifle, plinking shots, though depending on that van, might be working my way away a bit.

Alright Orokos is working again.

Now I'm not sure if I can  do this, but I'd like to use my subvocal mic to tell my drone to head towards 12 o-clock, and assist in laying down a bit of more of a cross fire on the borg. Meanwhile shoot the driver getting out of the car.

I'm shooting the driver

Post by: martinchaen on <07-19-14/2040:29>
Heh, I take it the guy Cyclone blade punched is dead as a doornail judging by that graphic? :)

Typically in SR4, Trisk, the Free Matrix Action Transmit Phrase (SR4A p229) can be used to order a drone to follow a preprogrammed script, such as "Execute Alpha-1", which has some sort of meaning regardless of situation (like "return to vehicle X", or "attack whatever I'm attacking".

The Issue Command Matrix Action in the Rigger section (p245) is a Simple Action (p229), and depending on the complexity of the command you (or the GM) might also need to roll for the Pilot to see how well it understood the order.
Title: Re: [OOC] Of Fire and Ice

Well, I do have fuzzy logic to support on that too.
Title: Re: [OOC] Of Fire and Ice
Post by: martinchaen on <07-19-14/2050:46>
Heh, I rarely found Fuzzy Logic worth it, but if you ever need to issue a really complicated command it can be very useful indeed.

I'd say issue the command and move this along; we can always edit stuff if the GM decides what we intend doesn't work.

Take out the driver, and Moto will help the Ares guys take out the rest of these fraggers.

Also, just FYI to the GM. Driving a vehicle involves making one Complex action per turn to control the vehicle, or it goes out of control and crashes. If the guy driving got out (opening a door would normally be a Simple Action), he couldn't also use a Complex Action to control the vehicle. Just something to keep in mind. I play a rigger in another game, and this is one of the reasons I have built my character to have 5 IPs :)

Pretty sure we're waiting for Number 2 at this point. Cyclone has acted this combat turn and so won't have any more actions until the next turn except defensive ones. Speaking of;

Number 2; pick rolls below as needed if anyone targets Cyclone.

I.e. if someone shoots at me first, just take the first ranged defense roll (4 hits on my end). If someone then tries to hit me in close combat take the second melee defense roll (6 hits on my end).
I began rolling with +1 Reach for melee, so if that is negated feel free to just go down to the next roll with 1 less dice.

If anyone does hit me, start with the first ranged or melee damage resistance roll, and take away dice from the end of the roll as needed if there are any negative AP modifiers.

Using Intimidation to make the Ares men "fall in" (i.e. not threatening their lives, just being myself and imposing my will on them) if you'll allow it. Using the "Subject is Friendly" (I did just help save their lives), "Desired result is advantageous" (I'm helping them get out of a pinch), and "Character is wielding a weapon" modifiers, for a total of +5. Heads up, getting on my 2nd gen ipod here in a minute so it might take longer for me to post, and dice rolling on my part would be difficult.

Anyways, one thing I wanted to discuss was ways to get the group together. Feathers and Anechka are kinda off doing their own thing, and I'm trying to figure out a way to get them together. Perhaps if Vladmire or Marcus knew them. Well, I'll figure it out. But any suggestions from you guys would be appreciated.
Title: Re: [OOC] Of Fire and Ice
Post by: martinchaen on <08-01-14/2218:55>
Ares wants the location Feathers is heading for scouted out?

Ares just wants to debrief Marcus and Vladimir, and once done gives them a "Good job" and a slap on the back and drops them off wherever they want? Marcus might mention to Vladimir that he was on his way to a job.

Not sure where Anechka is heading, so that one might be trickier.

Title: Re: [OOC] Of Fire and Ice
Post by: martinchaen on <08-02-14/1552:59>
All right, so, how do we ice this guy and make it look like an accident? The biggest issue for me is that Marcus is not the kind of guy who knows a lot about this kind of action; he's pretty direct in his approach. I could see him suggesting something like the below, though.

According to this article (http://likes.com/weird/the-15-most-common-accidental-deaths), the most common causes of accidental death in modern times are (and I've eliminated some right off the bat):

1. Falling Objects
2. Drowning
3. Alcohol Poisoning
4. Roller Coasters
5. Diving
6. Electrocution
7. Machinery
8. Medical Malpractice
9. Poison gas (not weaponized, but fumes from fuel and the like)
10. Firearms (accidental discharge, not intentional obviously :) )
11. Suffocation
12. Fires
13. Poisonous Liquids and/or Solids
14. Motor Vehicle Accidents
15. Falls

Of these, I think Falling Objects and Falls are questionable, unless there's a bunch of construction (of skyrakers) in this little town.

Personally, I think motor vehicle accidents, fires and/or suffocation, and various forms of poison are all viable options.

If we can get a hold of a hacker and a mage (hint hint), we can mess with the driver or take control of the car, and crash it into another car, front to front style. Rigging something to catch fire would involve getting inside (either covertly or as a recruit), and finding a good source. Same with electrocution and/or machinery, and to a degree poison.

Of course, one way to take a bunch of these guys out would be to attack the safe house where this lead is hiding, and use non-penetrating weapons to take people down. That way, after we're done we torch the place and make it look like an accidental fire; bullet holes would be a dead giveaway of foul play, though, so we'd have to use non-lethal SnS or gel rounds only, gas grenades full of breathtaker, and/or injection darts with narcojet or similar.

Personally, I think gas grenades with Breathtaker or Ymir are good alternatives, if we can get our hands on it. Breathtaker because it makes it seem like the victims suffocated, and Ymir because it looks like frostbite, both of which are appropriate for the setting. Warp is another option; dose everybody with a powerful hallucinogen, then go in and clean house, make it look like they turned on each other; messy, but doable. Finally, Neuro-Stun is an old standby, being odor and colourless so we could potentially deploy it without too much issue. If we're going for any of these, we should also inquire as to whether Ares just happen to have, or can get a hold of, some Rock Lizard Blood doses (avail 8R, 1500¥ a pop).

Breathtaker is avail 8R, 50¥ a dose
Neuro-Stun is avail 12R, 60¥ a dose
Warp is avail 12F, 550¥ a dose
Ymir is avail 20F, 800¥ a dose

In terms of torching the place, my bet would be on either letting gas flow into the place (if they have a natural gas mains, or oxygen bottles for welding and/or medicinal purposes), or using some form of accelerator like gasoline or home-made molotov cocktails (they're gangers, after all!) set off accidentally (dropped matches or a nearby chemical heater with a fault).

Electrocution and machinery are more dependent on environment, as I see it; it's up to chance if the location the target is hanging out at has any heavy machinery and or high-voltage power grids.

So, thoughts?

Honestly, I don't know how to respond to Leon's plan here. Its way too close to full on pvp to me, even if the goal is to miss, and makes me rather uncomfortable on that regard. Its far too easy for it go south, both IC and OOC.
Title: Re: [OOC] Of Fire and Ice
Post by: Number 2 on <08-03-14/1920:11>
Here's what I think:

Vladmire is Purposely trying to miss hitting Leon. If Leon is in cover, take some potshots at him. Thats all Vlad has to do. It's going to take a glitch to hit Leon if you are trying to kill the other Borg and Leon is taking cover. Proper communication before and during the attack should prevent a lot of mishaps. And if you do somehow hit Leon, it's a 99% chance that you hit some metal part of him and he just shrugs it off because the guy is a fraggin tank. It's a good plan, provided Leon has good stealth and bluff skills.
Title: Re: [OOC] Of Fire and Ice
Post by: martinchaen on <08-03-14/1940:33>
What Number 2 said, Trisk. Cyclone can take some pretty big hits, and in this case it's not PVP because he wants you to shoot near and possible hit him. Lends credibility, you see. The one thing Cyclone doesn't have is bluff skills, but that's what edge is for :-)
Title: Re: [OOC] Of Fire and Ice

Vladmire is supposed to be hard to see, right? Why not set up a decoy? Hell, you could get a big sheet of electronic paper or something and rig it to make it look like it's firing.

Leon: He has a silencer! He's over there! *points at decoy*
Borg: Let's get 'im!

There are plenty of ways to make this work. Talk it out OOC if you need to.

Trisk
Oh, I was merely thinking you'd set up from a hidden position, kill a few Borg and wound me and/or the target, and then get the hell out of dodge while we shoot the place up in an attempt to get the sniper trying to take out the Borg leader.

A sniper is going to be, or should be at least, hard to spot, especially if you have infiltration. You can take a shot (using the Ambush rules), spend your next IP using the infiltration skill to duck out of sight, and since you're using a silenced rifle the opponents will have a hell of a time spotting you.

Marcus has a Pain Editor; with the GMs permission, you could try a called shot for a particularly well-armored piece of his body (effectively counting the called shot as the Splitting the Damage from SR5, so I would take half physical, half stun). Additionally, I'm asking for some Subsonic rounds that adds +2 to AV, making it all the more unlikely for your shot to damage me much. And even then Marcus has BOD 8, 22 (or 28 with the Ares Arctic Forces suit) Ballistic AV, and 17 Condition Monitor dice. There's just no way you can get to 17 unresisted DV unless you are using Anti-Vehicle weapons, even if you did manage to somehow bypass all 22/28 armor value... :D

The reason I'm saying all this is because rigging cadavers presents two problems;
1. Where the hell do we get them from? Break into a local morgue and steal some deados? Kill some poor schmucks just so we can line them up?
2. Even the most untrained idiot would be able to tell that a dead body has been dead for more than an hour, especially in a cold environment. And it's safe to assume that while the Borg in general might not be recruiting particularly intelligent people they at least have some smarter operatives, or they wouldn't be this big of a thorn in Ares' side.

Marcus will be opposing the cadaver idea simply because of practicality; he (well, I) thinks that the threat of a single sniper is more than enough to warrant cautiousness on behalf of the Borg, especially if the sniper manages to threaten their leader. As long as you can hide and get off a couple rounds, preferably taking out some high-level operative and/or wounding their leader and possibly myself (maybe we can get the GM to agree on a called shot that we set up like a teamwork test, where you target Marcus and Marcus bodyslams the leader into the ground, effectively "saving" him" for theatrical effect), we'll be much better off than if the Borg find some dead bodies on a rooftop.

This doesn't need to be an all-out attack; it just needs to give the impression that there's a threat the Borg need to take seriously, and a sniper is very much a serious threat.

The biggest concern I have is getting you out of there after you're done shooting; do you have a reliable means of getting away safely? Maybe we can ask Ares if we can borrow a snowmobile or something :D

Post by: Isane on <08-04-14/1708:32>
Aw man, if I'd have known that Ares would be giving out equipment I woulda forced myself into that fight  :3

Anyway, Feathers and Anechka are together at least at the grey building, so just waiting on Number 2 to see where that leads us.  If you still need a suggestion on how to get everyone together, could be that the job offer there is the same one the others are getting from Ares.  Anechka also has a fixer contact, so if needed they could supply her with the job as well.  Up to you though, since I dunno what you already have planned at the building.
Title: Re: [OOC] Of Fire and Ice
Post by: martinchaen on <08-04-14/1904:47>
Not giving out, just borrowing :)

I think I might have a solution for getting us together; Cyclone mentioned he'd want a hacker to help with forging the background story he and Vlad are aiming (heh!) for. He's got a contact in the Vory, and he'd likely go to him for suggestions on who to contact. The vory contact could potentially refer Cyclone to Feathers and Anechka through a fixer.

Alternatively, we run the two jobs side-by-side, hope for the best, and meet at the end!

In any case, Number 2, what kind of info do we have on the Borg leader, and the place he / they are hanging out? As per the IC thread, Cyclone will want to wait for a fake/real ID with Ares employment and termination records as he needs all the help he can get with regards to lying his way into the Borg.

Oh Right, info on the Borg leader. Perhaps the fact I'm trained in knowing about them would help...

Borg knowing - Leader (http://orokos.com/roll/212122): 9d6t5 2

Well, not as much as I'd like, but still helpful.

Trisk: You know that he's pretty reclusive. But you also know where he lives. You also know that he's not quite as chromed as the others. The reason that he's their leader is because he's smarter than any 3 of them combined.

All right, so here's the plan from Marcus' point of view.

With his new ID in hand, he'll hit up his residence and pick up some gear, get the drugs off of Anatoly if he can deliver them quickly (longest time frame is 12 hours for the Kamikaze, and if I pay double I'm hoping he'll have it ready by the day after).

He'll then liaise with Vlad later on in the day to get ready for infiltrating the enemy compound, and for timing the assault.

Marcus' equipment list will look like this.
Worn (from skin out):
Form-Fitting Half-Body Suit (Chemical Protection 6)
SecureTech Forearm Guards, Leg and Arm Casings, Shin Guards, and Vitals Protector
Clothes (Urban military fatigues)
Ares Arctic Forces Suit

Headgear:
Helmet (Atmosphere Sensor, Geiger Counter, and Ultrawideband Radar rating 4)
Respirator (Rating 6)
Goggles (Flare Comp, Thermographic, Vision Enhancement Rating 3)
Earbuds (Spatial Recognizer, Audio Enhancement Rating 3)

Total Armor: 28/26

If he can get biometrics for the ID that Ares is setting up (presuming they're not using his), he'll also wear a latex face mask to better match his new ID. If they're using his biometrics, he'll go as himself.

Weapons:
Ares Alpha (loaded with SnS and EX-Explosive ammo, grenade launcher loaded with flash-bangs, worn on a sling under the Ares Arctic suit if carrying illegal weapons on the street is frowned upon in this town :) )
Ruger Super Warhawk (loaded with SnS rounds, quick-draw holster, worn on right hip)
Ceramic Knife (concealable boot holster)
Katana (sheath worn on back)
Arm Blade (right cyberarm)
Shock Hand (right cyberarm)
Light Cyberpistol (loaded with SnS rounds, left cyberarm)

Large Smuggling Compartments (1 in each leg):
1x Expendable Jammer (Rating 10)
1x Flamethrower Fuel (smallest canister available, 4 charges)
1x Operations Cleanup Kit
6x Slap Patches and 6 Syringes (Laes)
5x Syringes (Gamma-Scopolamine and Narcojet)

Internal Auto-Injector:
1x Cram, 2x Jazz, 2x Kamikaze, 1x Psyche

Ares Arctic Forces suit:
Erika Elite, broadcasting fake Ares ID
Certified Credstick, Gold (250¥)
Reality Amp Chip (Red Alert)

Polar Survival Kit (backpack):
3x Adhesive
3x Alkahest
1x Glasscutter, Miniwelder, Wire Clippers
30x Plastic Restraints
2x Tool Kit (Hardware and Industrial Engineering)
Various Ammunition: SnS and EX-Ex for light pistols, SnS and Regular for heavy pistols, SnS and EX-Ex for assault rifles; gas grenades (neurostun), flash-bangs, and HE minigrenades for grenade launcher

Let's do this! :D
