Title: hoverboard question
Post by: beastman420 on <09-11-14/2239:00>
so i was thinking it would be awesome if they had hoverboards this game still quite new to sixth world its an odd egg for me. my question is the technology advanced enough in (2072-2075) for something like this and i want to use pilot groundcraft skill. how would this work in game exactly i think soms previous edition had them but i couldnt find much i just thought it be badass to see rigger, deckers and others using them. so ideas would be awesome

I haven't seen them, myself, and I doubt they exist in the canon Sixth World.  The main issue with having them would be having enough of an engine/lift provider in that small of a space, as well as a power source that'd last more than a few minutes on it's own.

They had them. Don't remember what book, but they used the same tech as skimmer discs. There was even a cyberlimb upgrade in 4th you could get for your feet to basically give you hover feet. Doubles your movement rate.

Yeah - I remember those.  I wonder what happened to those...  it seems like maybe it was a direction that the then-line-developer wanted to go, and then it changed course maybe.  I think they were pretty cool, personally, even if the ramifications could potentially be pretty huge.

They're included in the Rigger 5 April Fool's product, with completely useable rules for 4th edition.

I'll do my best to get 'em into 5th somewhere. :)

Yes, they were in the Rigger 4 product. And they were actually pretty neat. Though my favorite thing out of Rigger 4 is still the Nadeshiko drone. Those things were perhaps the best 'home' for an AI that wanted to blend in I've ever seen. And the fact that they were able to take (limited) cyberware upgrades and wear armor as well due to the limb structure made it possible to do something I've always wanted to do, but never had the chance to: an AI Street Samurai. I like customization. It was one of the things in 4th that really drew me in to Shadowrun as a system that they've basically killed so far in 5th. They haven't gone so far as to make it a comparison between D&D 3.X and D&D 4th, but still, I wish they left the customization stuff in, instead of dumbing them down. I shudder to think what it will look like when we get the rigger book.

The hoverboard and the Nadeshiko are both my work, for the record. :) Once the Rigger book rolls around on the schedule, I'm hoping to take lead on it. I've a weak spot for the poor, unloved archetype and all the neat toys that it brings out. And, yeah, customization had darn sure be in there.

(As for the Rigger 4 book, had the giant Battlemech not been in there, I'd planned to add a car-chomping, fire-breathing robot dinosaur, but only for this sunday Sunday Sunday!)

Don't worry Mirikon.  I'm pretty sure any perceived lack of customization in 5th is just the product of 2 things that will be remedied pretty fast:  1) the Priority System for creation, which will certainly have alternatives in Run Faster, and 2) the lack of material as they work to translate the price of cyberware and drone mods.
