Title: Smoking Mirror
Post by: Headhunter on <12-23-14/2333:39>
Recently my runners killed a member of the Smoking Mirror and i was wondering what an appropriate response would be?

it all depends on how clean the kill/get away was. How many people know it was them who did the deed? If the azzies have them dead to rights well then its time to get your blood magic on! Friends/Family/Contacts turned into blood/flesh golems seems like a good start to me. Wither those golems them go on to attack the runners is up to you  ;)

What do you mean "Blood Golem" I know about blood spirits but what exactly a blood golem is. Also 2 of the guys body guard survived to give descriptions of the runners.

Golems are possessed inanimate objects.... usually human shaped.

And a description is not a lot to go on. In a city like seattle that is 1:3,000,000 Vs registered SINs. And closer to 1:5,000,000 for the total city.... so slim chance. Unless they got a digital, they are not going to get a match close enough to narrow that down to a managable number

A description of the target is enough for a symbolic link (not sure if this is in SR5 yet, to be honest).

And lets face it, a lot of runs begins with exactly that much information. "Find Mr. X and kill/abduct/question/whatever him; this is what he looks like, he was last seen at location Y, now go do your thing."

It also depends on what kind of disguise the runners were wearing.  If one had a latex face mask and the other a motorcycle helmet for instance, good luck in finding them.  If they were their plain old selves and had their picture taken, or one has the distinctive look flaw, well, time to make new characters I guess.

They don't need to search the total of Seattle's inhabitants. They know these guys are runners or agents and can focus on these elusive circles to gather information. They not only have invididual descriptions (which may be false) but also of the team as an entity. How many runners? Unique or exotic features involved, like Troll melee adept wielding a big axe? Or a norm with multiple cyberlimbs? Things like these in combination might ring a bell in the shadows. With enough money someone will probably provide intel. Connections with loyalty ratings from 1-3 are excellent candidates.

Magic can fruther provide more information about them, also astral quests on the metaplanes.

Yup said dead bloodmage comes back after burning an edge and is not happy about needing to keep promises to things you do make promises to. So he cuts out the body guards eyes to fuel a blood ritual that gives him all the perts he needs to burn down the shadows to find you.

Start with low loyalty contacts and then work your way up. At least give your runners the chance to avoid the hammer. If they don't it's blood golem time! Nothing says you f ed with the wrong guys than a shambling mound of bones organs and flesh with your favorite fixers face stapled on handsome Jack style...
