Shadowrun

So, heads up folks, Bull, the Best Ork Decker You Never Met, has offered his character up to Harebrained Schemes as an NPC, but only one thing is holding them back from having him as part of the Shadowrun video game: The $1000-Tier Kickstarter requirement. I mean, if they just let ANYONE in without going through the legit channels, then they'd have to let us all in, now, wouldn't they? And, well, you don't want to see my face in a Shadowrun game any time soon.
Maybe if I was a dwarf. I can get the beard for that.
So, with Stretch Goals needing to be hit, and a variety of other completely legitimate and awesome reasons, let us try and figure out how to get the Shadowrun Bull into 2056, when he was young, eager, and not the cranky bastard he is in the 2070s!
That's right folks, let us get the hat passed around in order to get the Panther Assault Cannon wielding Decker into Shadowrun: Hong Kong! Who is with me???
-
Make it an add-on; I'd put forth 5 nuyen for that, easy.
-
I'm not sure I get what exactly you have in mind, CanRay. What is your actual plan to get Bull into SR: Hong Kong?
-
I'd contribute $10 to see that. :)

Chloroform, a rag, and air freight? ;D
Get a proper collection going to get Bull The Ork Decker (as opposed to Bull the Shadowrun Author And Missions Guy) into Shadowrun: Hong Kong. The tier to get an NPC into the game is $1000. It'll help bridge the gap between the video game and the tabletop game, despite there being 20-years between them. ;) And, considering that The Greatest Ork Decker You Never Met is already alive and well in the universe of Shadowrun back then (and was in quite a few books during the FASA days, before the writer got hired on at CGL), we're not even messing with any kind of canon!
Out of the price range of most people (Bull and myself included), but, if we work together, we can do this, and add even more awesome into Shadowrun: Hong Kong!
-
Ask Harebrain to make that a stretch goal. I'd bump up my pledge for that. And they should add an experimental laser weapon called the Can-ray.

I'd toss a couple of extra bucks along for this as well (even though I'm spending too much as it is ::))
-
Can chip in on this so what is the plan?
Do we pledge here and then if we make the goal Canray/Bull contacts us to arrange transfer of funds or will it be a mini KS.
Plus if we make 2k we get Bull and someone else in, like Mungo? :P
Though a CanRay being chased down the street by tazer hobos is also a good second choice. ;)
-
I've already given till it hurts ~_~
I am rooting for you though. It would be pretty wiz to see bull in the game. Even if it is just shadownet banter like we had in dragonfall
-
I'm working on the way we're going to do this. Currently, RL stuff has been eating a lot of my time, and I have no experience.
But, yeah, crowdsourcing is looking like the option of choice.
-
Any update on this as far as how it is going to go?
I don't think they will be able to put this as a separate stretch goal on the Hong Kong KS (but you never know) so we need to organize a bit.
I do not know if CanRay/Bull have a webpage with a paypal button they want to use for simplicity sake or set up a proper KS page.
Could we also suggest starting a new page in general Discussion (with FastJack's Permission of course--don't think it would be an issue but never hurts to ask) as many people who may well want to contribute to the cause may or may not come down to this section. Even if it's just $1 to $5 each it can add up fast if presented in the right section.
Namikaze already said they would throw in $10
In the spirit to help kick this off I will pledge $100 to the cause for putting Bull's mug on the game.
(Paypal preferred as easy and being abroad bank transfers to the US are not cheap, but will if that's what it takes. :P )
So this already puts us at just over 10% of the way to goal.
So what does everyone say?
-
I'd be willing to donate a few bucks to the cause. I only need a proper place where to do it :)

What he said :)

Well hopefully something can be organized. Maybe just need a bigger stick to poke Canray with. :P
Opti is almost three quarters of the way on his (http://neo-anarchist.com/?page_id=203) so it can be done.
-
I will officially say here that if we reach our $1000 goal, anything additional will go to the Bull fund. In addition, if there isn't any place to donate, anyone can donate on my page and put "Bull" in the notes, and I'll keep track of donations for him. Or however else I can help. I'm in.
-
Grats on reaching just over 87% of the way to your goal Opti.
Also we have donated here (http://neo-anarchist.com/?page_id=203) on Opti's page toward the Bull fund as per our original pledge above to get the ball rolling. :D
So we are just over 10% of the way to getting Bull's mug in game with still got 19 days to go, let's make this happen. :)
-
Excellent!! Will be tossing some money at this tomorrow. ;)
-
Grats on Opti reaching his own funding goal. The Crow Flies in Hong Kong. :D
Edit: Update on the Bull Fund: Now up to $175 so closing in on the 20% mark toward goal.
-
Much appreciated, Opti! Things have hit me rather far more than expected, so I feel quite bad on falling down on this. :'(
Go Opti and Bull!!!
-
Edit:The Bull Fund sitting at
£$198, so remember to support your local Orc Decker. :P

So that's $297 out of $1000?

Sorry fixed that, is $198 out of $1000, silly keyboard has £ & $ right next to each other.
Still a ways to go, but hopefully we can drum up some more support. :D
-
Finally got around to donating to the Bull Fund...would love to see this happen. ;)
-
Update on the Bull Fund: Now up to $223 with just 7 days to go.
Remember, for the price of a cheap soykaf and a Nuke'em Dog you too can help put Bull's face in the game space
So skip the indigestion for one evening and bask in the warm glow of helping your fellow runner.
Or that might just be the residual effects from that last trip into Glow City.
It's 50/50, but probably the former (just in case you can find the potassium iodide tablets in the medkit )
-
So... yeah. We actually got the money today. $1000 to get Bull in. You did it, chums!
-
Congrats to Bull And Opti. I promise if you're like the named hireling from SRR that I'll try not to get you killed.
If you're going to be like Mr. Kluwe cameo, well, even better, no chance of that :-P
-
Nice! That's good news. I hope they do Bull and Opti both justice. I'm expecting assault cannon and/or Chicago references for Bull, and a mention of crows for Opti :)
-
Grats!!
-
Wow. Thanks gang. And thanks to everyone who donated. I'm stunned by this, humbled, and very appreciative. You guys rock.
-
Thanks very much for everyone that helped out with this one, again, sorry I kind of fell down on the job. But, hey, it's done and Bull is in the game! ;D
-
Next time we should get Patrick Goodman in the game. Billionaire to Shadowrunner back to billionaire...then dead.

I think he gets teased enough about this already.
I should know, I'm one of the ones that does it. ;D

Given his main writing topic wouldn't it be Billionaire to Shadowrunner back to billionaire, then dead but back as Infected? :P
-
Really happy to see that this funded and to have been able to contribute a little to the effort :)

Just saw this post (https://www.facebook.com/SRMissions/posts/917455348306919) on the Shadowrun Missions facebook page.
Alright chummers, would you like to become an Custom Player Character Portrait in the upcoming Shadowrun: Hong Kong video game from Harebrained Schemes? It just so happens that thanks to some generous fellow runners, I have access to a custom PC Portrait slot in the game, and I'm giving it away to you guys because Missions fans are the best fans! So how do you enter to win? Read the following carefully!
Does that mean we won't see Bull the Ork Decker in the game, and some random Facebook fan instead? :(
Or is it something on top?
-
Saw the same post...not sure I'm too happy about that. I didn't contribute funds to the cause so that it would then be turned into a promo for SR Missions... ???
Of course, this could be something completely separate...in which case, awesome for those who want to toss their names in! ;D
-
I believe we will see Bull in the game, there were just extra funds left over AFTER Bull go it. To get Opti and Bull both in the game people would have needed to raise $2,000 USD, and the "become a player portrait" pledge was $500 USD. My guess is they raised $2,500 USD and are now auctioning off the chance to become a player portrait in addition to actually getting Bull and Opti in the game as NPCs.
Of course, I could be wrong so it'd be cool if Bull or Opti would care to comment.
-
Good points...thanks.
-
Plus you have to remember the $1000 goal made for Bull automatically contains all the benefits of previous goal levels, which would include the $500 goal of Player portrait.
So Bull is going to be a NPC in the game (as per the 1K goal) based on the description they will get from him and probably didn't want his mug as a Player Portrait (the £500 goal prize) so is putting it to use in the raffle.
It just means players won't get to start a game using his face, but they should still run into him in the game.
Or I should say bump into him, don't think they have rigger rules yet ;)
There can be only ONE Bull! :P
-
I believe we will see Bull in the game, there were just extra funds left over AFTER Bull go it.
Yeah that's what I thought but a confirmation would be nice.
-
Agreed.
BUT...not sure that the crowd funding funds should be used to directly promote the company. I like the idea in principle, but did not contribute so that CGL could create a promotion.
Again, would be good to get clarification...happy to be proven wrong.
-
I can clarify a bit. As an unintended consequence of reaching the $1000 goal for both Opti and Bull, we also got access to each level below the $1000 level. When I received the follow up surveys for both, I thought since Bull's fans were the ones who got him there, not me, I would kick the survey his way to do with the rewards what he liked. By far the coolest reward besides the NPC is the character portrait/PC included at the $500 level, so as a cool contest, instead of keeping it for himself, Bull gave the PC portrait away. It was him being cool, not trying to snub anyone who donated. Bull the Ork Decker will be an NPC, and some lucky Missions fan will have their mug as a PC portrait.
They gave the option for the PC/NPC/E-Book character to be the same or all three different, and I haven't decided how to pull that off for Opti yet (although I am running out of time).
Hope that helps.
-
Thought so, but good to hear it confirmed.

That is pretty cool, so someone could actually work in three characters-- one as NPC in game, have a pic done of another that you can use as your own portrait and a third for the E-book.
Speaking of which Opti you best get yourself in that E-Book asap. :P
-
Yeah, the NPC and E-book are gonna be Opti. The PC though, I keep going back and forth about how I might give it away, since, like Bull, I see no particular value in bogarting it to myself. If anyone has thoughts, I'd love to hear them.
-
How much time you got left for that?
Well you got the names of your donators for the Opti fund, you could just contact them to see if any are interested and do a random draw from those wanting to take a chance on it, assuming you have a window of time sufficient for it.
trying to picture what Hax or Deforest might look like... heh...they probably would draw the line at an image of an 11 year old so the cub might be out.
-
I'm asking the crows on twitter and FB what they want. Its probably always best to let others make big decisions, lol
-
Thanks for the info Opti...much appreciated.
I really have no issue with the idea of giving the portrait to the fans...I guess my issue is more that it's being promoted through a CGL...the company is benefiting from the "free press". I would rather have seen the offer opened up through the forums (here, DS, etc) with the odd shout from FB.
At end if the day, not a biggie...don't regret contributing. Hope my opinion is in the minority and that I've just "read" it wrong. ;)
-
Yep, so now need to eat a little crow...just saw the post in the Missions forum posted earlier this week. Happy to be wrong ;)

Eat some crow, huh? Opti, does this mean that AJ is soliciting you?

-
Hey guys. Totally missed this down here (I honestly don't regularly look at any of the forum boards besides the Missions ones most days).
Anyway, what Opti said is correct. I'm totally keeping Bull as the NPC in the game. But I ended up with a PC portrait, NPC in game, and the eBook name drop, and rather than be greedy I figured I'd give back some.
As for doing it through the Missions Facebook page... I'll be honest. Missions has been my baby now for 5 years. The overall responses to the Campaign and the fans have been amazing for those 5 years, so I wanted to give back a bit. This seemed like a cool prize to use for that. Jason and CGL didn't have anything to do with it (They didn't even know about it), it just seemed like the easiest and quickest way to do the contest (There are fairly tight deadlines for turning in info, so I couldn;t draw it out too much).
One of the other things I do plan to do is once the game comes out, I want to do a Twitch livestream play (and I'll record and upload those to YouTube, assuming I can figure all of that out :)) and answer SR Questions and just chat with folks. I've already talked to Jason about coming on for a while to join in for teh Q&A, and will hopefully drag a few others along as well.
I am VERY appreciative for everyone who did this for me. It was amazing and awesome.
-

Well, that certainly devolved in the blink of an eye. :o
Touché ;)
@Bull - thanks for weighing in.
