As a ref I was looking to put a blood mage in a scenario, until I found out there was a 1 million bounty available on them, which could unbalance my group if claimed. Looking further it seems there are bounties on ghouls and possibly other infected as well. Before my runners start getting rich off bodies, can anyone tell me if there's a list of ongoing bounties in the SR5 universe?
-
Part of me wants to see what happens when a SINless tries to collect a million nuyen bounty...
The bounties that exist in your game are whatever bounties you want to exist. If the PCs are getting paid 20,000 to capture a blood mage, that's what they'll get paid.
-
If you're thinking of the bounty from Draco Foundation, the bounty is only for live blood mages. At least it was supposed to be according yo the big Ds will.
-
More recent books have included some "most wanted" individuals (including toxic mages) and none of the bounties approached 1 million, living or dead. And most infected bounties only go up to 15,000 so I'd be comfortable putting the generic bounties at 10,000 to 20,000 for blood mages / toxic mages.
As to a sinless claiming a bounty, given that the bounties in question are from the Draco foundation, I don't see it being a problem.

Any corp is going to look for an excuse to avoid a payout. If you hit a half court shot at a basketball game today but your toe was 4 inches over the line, the insurance company that actually pays the prize is going to claim your shot was ineligible. Don't have a SIN? Sorry, chummer. We appreciate the effort, but that would be bad publicity--making millionaires out of criminals and all that. We'll give you 200,000 off the books.
-
If we were talking about Aztlan or SK, perhaps. But the Draco Foundation? You know, that corp that gave out SINs to the SINless? Ya, I don't think they're going to play that game.
-
Agreed, DF isn't squeaky clean, but they wouldn't try to avoid paying out.
However, I seem to recall that the book ShadowcatX mentioned (which was it?) also mentioned that DF only offers bounties for the blood mages THEY are looking for, not every single blood mage in the world.
-
I'm talking about Hazard Pay for the toxics / blood mages. I've only just skimmed it, but I don't recall them rescinding the bounties on other blood mages or toxic shamans. Running Wild had information on the bounties for infected. (The infected bounties are from the CAS and UCAS governments, rather than the draco foundation, and they would likely require a SIN to collect.)
-
If being SINless is an issue, your players could work through either a bounty hunter 'organization' or a fixer that has access to a legitimate SIN or at least connections to process the bounty. They get their cut, which drops the amount to the players to a more appropriate level - unless your playing a high Nuyen game, in which case -- make 'em earn it! ;)

Shadowgrid's Most Wanted
Need some extra cash? Don't have time to heist the local mega? The punk manning the counter at the Stuffer Shack recognizes your voice from the last five times you've robbed him? Well then, here's so easy bounties for a primer runner like yourself:
- Michael Winslow - this deadbeat owes the local mafia, yakuza, AND triads a lot of cash. Each is willing to pay up to ¥2000 for his hide (half if dead, you figure out the delivery).
- Jane Silver - the street samurai that goes by Jane Silver is wanted by her last fixer to answer some questions regarding her last run. ¥5000 (alive only, delivery to SoyKafka bistro)
- Jersey Pete - if you can't beat them, pay someone else to! This street thug recently put a working to honorable decker WillTell and the decker wants video of payback ¥250 (Payment on transfer of video to WillTell's PAN, will pay if multiple beatings occur)
- Toni Verona - Toni walked away from her husband and family six months ago, and they are looking for any information on her whereabouts ¥5000 if your information proves valuable to her safe return.
- O - Information on O's identity worth nuyen to the right people. Prices negotiable.
-
That's it I'm gonna go beat Jersey Pete. Makes we wonder if WilTell we keep paying if I beat 'ol Pete every couple of weeks.
-
Probably.
And dammit, 'Jack, if you keep trying to get people to hunt down who I am ... I'm gonna have to keep tweaking that dataworm.
-
Ain't trying to hunt you down, Wyrm, but someone is. From what I hear, it's a pretty penny too. Who'd you tick off this week? ;)
-
Let's make a list of 'who haven't you' instead - it'll be shorter.
-
That ¥5000 for Toni Verona is a sucker's bounty. I'll lay odds that anyone who "walked away from her husband and family six months ago" is really an extraction that the originating corp doesn't want to pay out on.

Or she left a bad relationship and an unhappy control freak hubby wants her found and brought back, so finding her might not be doing her any favours.
Wouldn't be the first time trackers been used this way.

I really like dunkelzahns last will. But the bountys are an issue. As GM you could prevent your group from getting them alive. You could intercept the transportation by UCAS / KA / Runners / what ever. Or your Johnson could give them a contract to catch one, and only paying them X. If the J plays nice, my group would respect such a contract. Or you could make them pay a good amount of money by destroying their cars or cast a high level (edge) pulse spell on them. They get 1.000.000 but they lose myb a cyberdeck, all the weapons, the car and so on.
On the other hand, i would love to find with one of my chars the information about the mars pictures. 1% of ares is a nice award. My char would be done, he would quit shadowrunning, i would never play him again, but i would know that he is happy and very rich :) And i would really like to play a campaign to get that information. The perfect finish for a high karma (400-500) shadowrunner. Do or die. High risk high reward. It would be a great last big bang!

Weapons? Unlikely, unless everyone is using high-tech (lasers etc.). Otherwise you just slap on new electronics and you're good to go. And some teams like to make sure their ride is EMP-proof. But yeah, the loss of a 'deck could be brutal.

If blood mages *know* they have a 1mil bounty on their head (collection difficulties aside), I doubt they're going to show themselves much, so including them in a scenario is going to be problematic... The security around Azzie blood mages must be phenomenal!
Also, what other creatures (in sourcebooks) have bounties on them - is it just 'running wild', or is it mentioned in other books?
