Title: Would you take this option?
Post by: Senko on <03-26-15/1840:49>
I'm not proposing this as an actual rule it's horribly broken I'm just curious how many would take it if it were an option.

You can take a 25 point trust fund giving you a permanent luxury lifestyle and 10k a month spending money but only at character creation not later.

Yes ... and no.

I'd rather rock a 25 point trust fund that was more like this:

High Lifestyle
8,000 + (6d6 x 500) nuyen per month

Up or down on the base money or dice rolled as needed. I can't even balance it, because to balance it to your proposed quality would be 110,000 nuyen worth of stuff a month.

I mean, I don't mind the 10k a month, but Luxury seems unnecessary for the most part. Of course, then I could take the 25 point Creature of Comfort quality. Hmm.

Thinking about it again; I totally would take it.

Who wouldn't take it?

What you've got there is basically every runners dream goal of retirement.

Which then begs the question, why on earth would you bother being a runner if you have that quality.

As it is now the Trustfund quality is under-priced and this one is off the charts.

@Tarislar
As I said horribly broken just curious who'd take it considering the proviso you can only take it at character creation and like all trust funds it can be suspended if linked to criminal activities. It could work for prime runners maybe or special one off high level games.

@8-bit
What your after there would probably be 30 karma since it goes medium, low with extra income, high, medium with extra income. If my luxury is 25 then your high with more income would be the next step up at 30 going by the pattern established with the quality. Although I don't have the books I also think you'd be getting more income as I know the medium and high ones give 10% of the lifestyles monthly cost and the next step up on the quality Lowers the lifestyle for more money.

I would allow a player to take it given they had a good storyline reason. If I felt like it was just for money/power gamer type reason I'd nix it. As Senko said, there are ways to control it if it gets out of hand, such as provisions set in the trust, and if not met, or violated the trust gets cut off.

There are any number of runners who run because they want to, not because they have to - or at least, not because they have to for the money.
