Title: Delphi Mystic Hacker

Okay, don't like the name.  The character is primarily intended to be a combat hacker (Combat first) with some magic as a back up.  To make it work I have tried to make it so that the magic boosts the hacking,  A background Idea is that he is about knowledge

He is intended to be a VR brute force hacker.  Yes he needs a real deck, however his comlink will be quickly moded to include the module (So attack 4 with DP and FW 6).

He walks around with the Str spell sustained, but will drop it and cast the Logic when he needs to (Figure +3 to +4 normally) otherwise his spells are for utility. This is why his logic is on the low side, because I want to be able to use focused concentration to maintain, but to do so I can only have a logic 4.

Yes the character is based on a failed experimental character (More of an evolution) who was trying to be a bit of everything, which is how I want him to grow, but thought I should concentrate on one or two aspects first (Chose magical decker with some decent combat abilities).    So some off the decisions are based on that goal.

First priority will be Hardware, pistols, Arcana, Gymnastics and software @1) a spell casting 2 Health foci, then an agility and ball lightning spell and then increase Str.  A level 4 health sustaining foci is planned as well (-2+5+4+10+25+8=50)

Also, he has 2 Karma in reserve.  He will use that for the Hardware and software skills as soon as he is out of character gen (so that Jack works for it)

Unless your table is very different than mine that level of In Debit is going to get you 4 boxes of permanent damage.  Not that you can't make the payments, but it'll cut into everything this character will want to do.  Initiate?  Can't need to find work.  Cyberdeck?  Stacks of sustaining Foci that you need to make this work well?  Never gonna happen.  YMMV. 

Your dice pools (other than Spellcasting) are too low IMO to be particularly effective.  With the Increased Logic running you've got decent Hacking skills, but no Sleaze attribute and a cap of 3 on your Attack attribute means you're going to fail vs anything with more than 10 dice.

You need the Increase Gear Limits spell to pull this off, but then your pools suffer.

Conjuring?  One of the best utility skills around.  Influence group isn't doing you any good, take the Conjuring group instead maybe?

Str 4 is too low for anything other than a Monowhip.  Use your spells to increase your dice pools. 

I'd say get the enhanced senses from Gear but you already don't have enough money for this character. 

I'd drop Intuition to 5, and dump Cha to 1.  Get Agility to 6 and Logic to 5 since those dice are what you're doing most of the time. 

You're squishy as heck IMO.  10 dice of dodging, 17 dice of soak, 2 Edge?  Yikes.  You're going fast and casting spells and charging into melee.  First troll bouncer you run into will put your head through a wall after he gets over being startled.  And that's all you're going to do is startle him.

I'm guessing Skills A, Attributes B, Magic C, Meta D, Resources E?  I think you went over on Karma by on.  30 on powers, 16 on FC and 5 on Mentor Spirit?  *shrug*  You did manage to throw 9-12 dice at about every test possible in the game.  That sure is impressive, if not particularly effective.

Actually the character is not a melee fighter (The swords and blades skills are more for flavor and maybe future development) in combat he is purely range (and full auto is my very good friend)  So blades is a likely candidate for the subbing for summoning

The Strength is actually only 1, the 4 is a spell he keeps up normally  Logic 5 would be a bad idea as I could not sustain an increase at that point (Spell must be cast at a value equal or greater than the augmented value). 

Mentor granted free astral vision breaks down to 25 adept and 23 Qualities,  The enhanced senses are only cyberware I believe

First priority is increasing the limit to 4 on the attack (he has everything he needs, but GM wants rolls to determine how long it takes to add the module). 

You bring up a great point about the in debt, honestly I misread the description,  so will need to rethink it (I thought it was only one block, not one per 20k)

Current to add summoning.  Dropped a little in perception to do it.  Plan is to make two stealth hacking tags (Can't believe the GM will allow it but...) and add module to comlink.

Will need to make sure I pay the in debt however (OUCH...). 

In combat he is going to do what is needed from a distance.  The group has a real hacker, a mage/face, and a street sam (with a touch of rigger/medic) already

Looking to retrieve his (heirloom?) blades and to cleanse his name is a great plot hook. I don't like your prio choises but I love your concept. Concept > optimisation, but that doesn't make my inner munchkin any more comfortable.

I know the feeling.  My second to last character had 20d in sneaking and enough other skills t ghost most missions

Now that I have a keyboard :)

I understand the conflict with the inner munchkin, I love to tinker and build to be the best on paper (I do have 2 stealth hacking tags planned after all :))

However in game I do not enjoy playing the best.  I have made sams and infiltrators who could not be stopped, and I dominated the game.  I was not happy.  So it created a conflict with me, as I truly love to build the best I can and annoys me when I am not the best I can make my character but I do not enjoy playing the character if I make it to powerful a character.  So in part this character is about doing an impossible concept, and having the character be the best I can do AT THAT concept while not overshadowing the other players.  It is a weird duality for me. 

I also like the very Samurai type personal quest of restoring his honor and reclaiming his (adopted) families heirloom swords.  How he grows on said quest will be interesting to see; how he changes and the compromises he will make. 

There are elements of him right now that grate slightly that I want to figure out the why of.  Namely why are his reactions and strength so week (Prior to magic augmentation)

Elements I am not completely decided on are as follows (Opinions are welcome)

His Machine Pistol (might change for a different one...giving up 10 ammo, 1 acc, and a silencer for full auto...)

His Name---This is big for me


I keep toying with loosing the Attack trait on the comlink  It is so important to the character but reducing his debt in half would also be nice...

A mentor Spirit.  Right now I would choose oracle and get free Astral Perception (Which for 5 points on mentor balance each other out)  making it a trade off for +2 Arcana vs the pursuing mysteries or Bear which +2 to health spells and +2 to Armor is nice, but Armor is easy enough to get and +2 health spells is a 4 karma and 8k nuyen future investment

Karma wise I have about 125 points worth of stuff I want (50 characteristics, 24 Foci, 25 spells, Some skills, a couple other qualities)
