Hey folks,

I know I have used Sum to Ten as a way to min-max even more during character generation, but wanted to explore the flipside and take Priority C for all character areas. I wanted to put out a challenge to see what kind of character concepts people can come up with a C-C-C-C-C priority spread. As a reminder, this means no trolls, and everyone starts with a magic or resonance rating (whether you keep it is up to you). I'll work on something soon, but please post what you come up with.

A "bio-adept" would work really well with all C's.  Ork, moderate MAG and attributes, okay skills, and then some bioware.  Or you could go Elf, get your MAG to 6 with SAPs, and then pick up Prototype Transhuman.  It's not just making "all C" work, it's probably what would be necessary for it...

I made it in a few minutes, so there may be mistakes.  Would probably need to use a lot of Called Shots to offset the 21+ dice pool on Automatics so it doesn't hit the Accuracy limit.  The Throwing Weapons was there for Grenades, but I forgot to buy any.  It could probably be replaced with something else, I dunno.

It's there, it's under the Spoiler tag (which I suggest others do so the thread isn't a mile long).

This one is a hacker magician.  He/she uses Increase LOG and Increase INT to have superior dice pools.  Prefers not to fight, but can use Clout if it's necessary.  Spellcasting pool may be a little low, but they have a lot of Edge to use to make sure they get 4 hits on both spells.  Little Hornet and the right programs means a passable decker, for sure.  A bit of tinkering after play starts, and you have a character with an astounding amount of potential.

Here's one that's a bit of a gimmick. Hermetic magician built to start with a R6 power focus. Would be much improved by dropping metatype to D and increasing attributes to B. Also wouldn't make for a terrible regular priority char, with magic A, attributes B, resources C, skills D, metatype E

Toyed with the stats of a previous technomancer character to make a data-enhanced seducer social adept. Has had a rough past but developed a unique set of skills for the con job that requires you to get in close that can command some serious nuyen. Can function as a basic face, and do a lot of legwork w/ contacts and matrix searches. Uses skills in computer, coupled with positive qualitlies like Profiler, Speed, Reading, and Photographic Memory to quickly develop and digest dossiers on marks and other key marks for social dice pool bonuses. The character quickly understands the personal quirks of the people being conned, and mixed with mentor spirit bonuses, adept powers, and bioware, can seduce a mark in the way the mark needs to seduced. Combat focus is to avoid combat, or at least sweet talk out of it. Leadership can be used to help fellow runners while the character stays out of the fray if need be. Like so many of my characters, uses drugs w/Narco genmod cocktail for lots of dice pool boosts. Niche, but playable.

Here is an Intuition based mage build.  Its a variation on my current character.  With more gear and less skills/spells/contacts.  Reasonably well rounded (with certain weaknesses).   The concept is a detective type mage. Has the fake PI license. If you notice, no weapons.  With the boosted drain stats (14) and the fetish, he can reliably cast F9 clout spells without taking drain. This gives a base damage of 9S+ net hits, with -9 AP. Better than any pistol.  Has Powerball for Direct damage, but also to have Physical damage.  Cast low force with reagents to bust open doors, or friendly neighborhood trolls (sort of).  16 dice for detection and combat spells.  Between invisibility, astral projection, and mana window (enhanced clairvoyance) and gear, he is your scout/spy.  With Mind Probe, he is your interrogator.  Only 11 dice to dodge, but can add spells (or initiate divination) to help that out.  Since I had to use so much karma on spells, he is weak on contacts.  Also, tried to make him physically rounded, so some of the mental stats are less than I'd like. 

My home game character started out with the Aged 2 neg quality, with 1's in all physical stats, and initiated for channeling after the first job to get phys stats up to 4's.  The Aged quality plus College Education (plus a 4 Logic) quality allowed him hit the magic knowledge skills pretty high, as well as forensics and some of the street skills listed here.  This guy trades all that for lots of gear and foci.  Channeling would help this guy too.  Channeling an F6 Spirit of man would give an initiative of 16+2D6, dodge of 13.

Haven't fully completed yet but the premise is that he used to work for Maersk on one of the huge cargo ships as primarily  cargo handler and secondarily pirate repulsion crew. While on layover in Seattle got drunk and missed his ship sailing. Started hanging out in the 'wrong' end of Tacoma and saved a minor family member of the Gianelli's from a gang attack which brought him to the attention of the Crime Family. He began doing odd jobs for them and eventually became a 'made man'. His normal job for the'family' is as muscle on extortion collection runs.
Was raised by Trolls so he thinks he's a minotaur that can shift into a bull and not a Bovine Shifter that can assume Troll shape.

Ok, I did this just for shits and giggles, but I actually think I wanna try and find a game for this character.

He's an elf. He spent a tour with the UCAS armed forces on a rescue copter, left in disgrace, and now works a day job giving helicopter tours around the city for rich tourists. That's not all he does though. He's saved/borrowed from illicit sources enough money to buy his own small attack chopper and has decided to put his skills to work running the shadows. Yeah, I hate the bad mental stats, too.  But at priority C you either have a guy who is good talking/casting or a guy who is good killing.
I did spend karma to get the magic back up, mainly for reflexes.
The guy is usable, but probably not that much fun to RP, unless all you like is the combat, then he's aces.

I think I found a better use for all "c".  An elven cat burglar, an adept decker who has Cat as mentor spirit, and a cyber arm. Unfortunately, because of the lame money and the cost of keeping essence loss down to less than 1, the Deck sucks, but would be decent-ish in combat (Pistol 15 dice)

Consider Overclocker and Perfect Time from Run Faster and swap out for a Little Hornet as your main deck. With that, you'd have a solid 6 or 7 in one of your slots. Drop the Improved Ability (Pistols) and instead go for it in one of your hacker skills. Instead of taking pistols, take automatics and get a specialty in machine pistols or SMGs (something one-handed). Small dice pool isn't as bad if you can rip off six rounds.

ON THE OTHER HAND, Perfect Time + Rapid Draw (Adept Power) + Lots of one shot pistols = attack as a free action every turn and AR hacking action every turn. Not to be sneezed at. Recommend Walther Palm Pistols and always fire both barrels.

Actually would like to work this character further, as I it is the closest to a survivalist/outdoorsy character that I have created that I actually think could be playable, especially in less urban campaigns or campaigns that take more outdoorsy jobs. In this iteration he is probably too animal empathy focused with some excess cyberware to better optimize, but I'm not sure what priority selection that is not all C would better help make such a character. Future growth might be getting magic back up to 4, picking up some rating 1 stealth/charisma/artisan skills, getting improved reflexes to 2, taking the Beasts Way and getting an attuned wolf pet.

15 karma spent on Agility, 10 on Edge, 5 on Nuyen.

Good suggestions.  I don't know much about the deckers.  I thought about going automatics, but depending on who you ask all SMG's are two handed.  Not too sure about the power of the machine pistols.  Wasn't really thinking of him much as a main combat guy, just helpful.

One more to throw out. A variant of the cybered anti-magic magician. Character will eventually take some skills in arcana and ritual magic, and will be able to do some vague divining at first initiation. Found cybered and magical initiative boosters to be too opportunistically costly. That along with high willpower, the character uses lots of drugs to boost stats when needed without worrying too much about addiction (Narco helps too).  Character cannot afford to load up cyberlimbs with much yet, but will add functionality in the future. The character concept is probably more efficient being an aspected sorcerer at Magic Priority D and boosting Resources, stats, or skills to B.

UPDATE: Just for comparison, I made a more optimized priority selection for the character. The character is spell free, and is able to start the game off with more loaded cyberlimbs and can function as a solid,  meter-tall sam/tank from day one. I kind of like the all C character for the long game. Karma would mostly be used to regain magical abilities while nuyen will be used to upgrade 'ware. The more optimized version starts the game much more potent, but growth seems to be more gear focused and picking up back up skills and may be most fun for a quicker campaign or a one-off.

While it may not be explicitly forbidden, if I were the GM, I would not allow a character with no ritual spellcasting skill to have rituals; it just doesn't make sense to me.  I would probably consider lowering sneaking (this character is not really built for stealth) in favor of at least a point or two in ritual spellcasting.

Ya... part of the problem is the all priority C challenge, where this character concept would be more streamlined as an aspected sorcerer at Magic priority D. Characterwise, I wanted the character to not really like being magical so I was thinking to avoid more overt magics. Warding seemed like a nice focus as even at low levels, the character can become aware of ward crossings and spring into anti-magician mode. I saw having the rituals but not knowing ritual spellcasting to be more that while the character had studied these rituals, the character just can't get them to work yet. It's weird in concept, when a mystic adept or magician at priority C, there is no requirement to take sorcery or enchanting skills, even though you get free spells.  A heavily cybered gnome probably isn't going to be so stealthy though, so moving points over to ritual spellcasting might be more realistic and helpful. I have to search the grimoire, but I would consider having the character take spellcasting and pick some particularly "anti-magician" spells, perhaps some magic detections, shadow (to hinder line of sight), magebolt, etc.., but dice pools aren't going to get that high to be super potent.

Update:
Skills: moves 6 points of stealth to spellcasting. Possibly shifts the 2 skill group points from Athletics to Stealth or Conjuring (Charisma 1 really limits binding potential though).
Spells: Takes Detect Magic-Extended, Manascape, Mana Static, Offensive Mana Barrier, and Detox. Any other ideas that can fit an "anti-magician" concept, let me know.
Adept Powers: Switches Metabolic Control to Heightened Concern (as most of the spells selected require being sustained)

I am really liking these character concepts! I am finding making characters this way a real challenge but leading to a lot of creativity in design. Knowing you're not going to be the best in any of the more typical shadowrunning realms, making other areas of focus has been fun.

I have one more I was experimenting with, a crossbow/harpooning water focused Menehune mystic adept. The character is capable of long dives, underwater recon, and looting. With the help of a water spirit and some spells, the character can stay extra safe from underwater critter dangers.  While far from being a combat adept, on land, the character can pretty accurately fire crossbow bolts and toxins for taking people and critters out or out alive. Don't let him talk much. Most people consider him a bit snarly and uncouth, but for better or worse, when they get to know him, they discover a generous heart that is easily taken advantage of.

 I have to reread Run and gun underwater rules to better pick gear/spells/ware as there are probably some unnecessary overlap right now. The character will round out sneaking, palming, survival, and probably watercraft pretty quickly after character generation. A boost in Reaction is also likely.
