Recently my mage player took Psychometry which has introduced an issue with needing to apply modifiers over a range of time frames.
Basically, the player had to roll 1 die for events in the last decade, 3 for the last year, 5 for the last month, 7 for the last week, and 9 for yesterday.
What is the best way to handle this?
What I did was to roll 1 die, then add two each time, taking the total at each stage and then relaying information accordingly.
From memory the rolls were 0,1,2,1,0; making it 0,1,3,5,5 for each level.

Personally, I'd roll the 9 dice, arrange them from furthest left to furthest right,
Read them left to right ignoring x dice equal to time modifier from right to left.
so for a decade out, that character would only use the left most result, 1 year the 3 leftmost results etc.

That's a nice way of doing it. We roll into a box lid, so that would be easy enough to do.
Note: This is not just for Psychometry, but that's the one I had to deal with and best example.
