Title: So how much would this silly idea cost?
Post by: ScytheKnight on <12-27-15/0447:30>
Posting this in here because it's more sort of a "This would be awesome, but probably impossible" ramble than anything so not really sure where else it would go.

Was just watching Bolt again and they had a section where motorbikes where being deployed from a chopper in low-altitude flight... got me wondering that there area already drone launchers, could they be scaled up a little more to launch a motorbike and its rider?

I couldn't even hazard a guess at cost, but Rule of Cool says Hells yeah lets do it!

Large Drone Rack should be able to hold a motorcycle.

Gliding System could reduce damage taken upon landing.

Even without the Gliding system just treat dropping from a low-altitude aircraft as landing from the use of Rocket Boosters; Resist Body DV and follow normal crash rules. Simples!

Launch would be relatively easy, surviving impact? Not as much.

Like I say, low altitude, maybe 15-20 feet off the ground.

As long as the pilot can get the aircraft down to about the height of about 5m (or 15ft) before the drop I'd say you'd take damage equivalent to that of the rocket booster system, which is Body DV resisted as normal for Crash damage, and you'd have to make a Vehicle Test to avoid crashing. The rocket booster system specifically mentions providing about 5m of lift making the vehicle capable of clearing semi trailers.

With a gliding system there doesn't seem to be any limit to the height, so launch from a large drone rack and install a gliding system unless you really trust the pilot.

If you jumped 15 feet on a motor cylce off something that wasn't moving very fast you probably be fine. Stunt riders do that sort of thing all the time.  15 feet is not really any kind of Altitude. You could build a car with a 15 foot ramp on it pretty easily.

For a fly vehicle it would be harder, Lighter then air could do it, helicopters could do it. Ether of those options wouldn't be cheap but aslo wouldn't be super expensive.

But for 15 feet? Not really a point in having a gliding system.

True, but getting an aircraft to fly steady at 5m above the ground requires some serious piloting skills. We're not talking about a stunt rider jumping two ramps, we're talking about a bike dropping out of a helo or an airplane onto flat ground. Hence why using the rules for rocket boosters and gliding systems make sense; if you can get the pilot to maintain an altitude of 5m while you drop out of it use the rocket booster rules. Otherwise, it might be a good idea to mount a gliding system, is all I'm saying.
