So I had an idea based on a number of the threads going through the forum recently (and not so recently) about customization and building your own 'decks and the like. It gave me a book idea I'd love to acquire/see:
A Customization/Construction Guide for all things Shadowrun. People are missing the rules to make your own spells, equipment, etc, especially since hide nor hair have been seen this edition. Putting all of these rules in a single book would make things much easier.
Now, this would never be Missions legal, but that's not my concern. My focus would be on building your own drones, armor, guns, spells, vehicles, 'decks, RCCs, buildings for all I care, etc. as well as modifying pre-existing pieces or your new ones. Consolidate some tables with all the current modifications out there, add some new things, give prices, times and what tests it takes to draw them up yourself, or to hire someone to do it for you (throw in modifier tables for equipment on hand, material quality, assistants or lack-there-of, etc.). Give a chapter of fluff about customizing your stuff in Shadowrun, about how the Megacorps discourage it and start voiding warranties and introducing countermeasures while skilled people jailbreak things and add aftermarket parts while talented 'runners build their own kit from scratch, literally making the bleeding edge in some cases. Get into the vehicles/drones and car culture, those magicians who develop new magics, maybe even a sidebar describing how to come up with balanced Adept Powers! The possibilities aren't endless, but close.
Also, just for the rules-lawyers out there, when you get to the first page of mechanics on building your own things, put in nice, big, bold, bright letters...
ALL CONTENT AT THIS POINT IS ONLY AVAILABLE AT THE GM'S DISCRETION.

As you probably guessed already, I'd buy this book lol. Building stuff is a lot of fun and while the core book explains it with some brevity it is underwhelming. I'd love to see some more detailed rules and guidelines. It would be especially useful.

I would like a build X book because as some of us do like to modify and even having a baseline can help.
-
100% would but this, especially if it also contained more mods for electronics, vehicles, and/or guns...
-
I would buy this in a heartbeat, but unfortunately it seems that 5e is going to continue running like a sarariman being chased by a Halloweener from customization. Streamlining is the name of the game these days, more's the pity.
-
That's why I'd want a customization/custom build book to be standalone and optional. Don't make it a requirement or have it in another book, just have it as a resource to the side. Maybe a GM wants to introduce some kind of highly-advanced group with railguns everywhere, or the ability to acquire a true katana forged in the mountains of Japan by an artificer swordsmith descended from Masamune. Maybe an auto-junkie rigger wants to literally build his own vehicle from scratch, or the group sniper wants to swap out barrels in his rifle to use a different caliber. Or the mage decides to create the formula for something like 'Mass Slay Devil Rats' after having a really bad encounter with a Rat Shaman mind-controlling a small horde of them his way.

It's definitely a huge lack in 5th ed. I've always enjoyed creating my own spells, so it was a big disappointment when "SG" omitted that traditional section of the magic book.
-
I would buy in a heartbeat (in fairness, I say that about nearly all SR stuff ::)), but, in particular, as it would consolidate all the "building" rules into a single source.

They should not publish anything else until they get their years delayed errata fixed and out.
Just saying.

I love this idea and new books, however the erratas would be super nice!

Yes, yes. Pretty much everyone knows your opinion on their process right now. A number of us even agree with you. That doesn't mean you need to try to derail more threads onto the topic. None of us were talking about a when for this book.

I would definitely jump at the chance for this. I love 80% of the stuff 5E changed and introduced, but one big complaint was the lack of modifications and ability to create stuff not strictly listed in the books. Bit of an adjustment when going from the "customize all the thingz" feel of 4E.

Definitely! I would love to have something available for this.
