Title: Cyberlimb Optimization: Ideas?
Post by: firebug on <01-14-16/0654:45>
I recently was making a character with a lot of cyberlimbs and have fell in love with this modification.

It's just a neat way to be creative.  The book offers neat examples, like Pistols, Unarmed Combat, and even Performance.  But what other ideas have you guys come up with?

Like, I decided a character of mine, a decker who thought "robots are cool" when she was a kid, has a pair of Renraku Circuit arms that are optimized for the Hardware skill.  It makes sense as being optimized for fine-tune manipulation and maybe some slight non-conductive padding in certain places.

I'm interested in what other uncommon, non-physical skills have come up with.

Would any social skills work?  You figure, if a coat can have a wireless bonus of "+1 to Social Limit" then maybe limbs can have a similar effect?

Spellcasting cyber arms? Navigation cyber legs?

These fingers are from Florence. Yves Saint Laurent himself designed my arse. My nipples are reconstructed from an early unfinished blue print by Coco Chanel, hence their lopsided charm. One of them is on my shoulder. The other five I keep handily between my toes, which, in themselves are a bit embarrassing. But fuck it, it was the 80’s, you had to have suede.
Yeah, I can see specific social skill bonuses from cyberlimbs.

So like, artistic/fashionable limbs to give bonuses?  Like...  I could see very theatrical and over-the-top, spiked ones for Intimidate.  Maybe like, one of those high-class ones that's sexy looking for Con?  Hmm...  Well, not Con.  But Etiquette, sure.  Since it's all about "fitting in".

Would be cool to see a cyber'd up street doc, maybe a CrashCart HTR guy, who's got cyberarms with razor blades with a First Aid optimization.  Kinda like Glory from Dragonfall.

Maybe Survival - built in gear to help start fires, keep you cool or warm, water filtration.

Or Piloting Skills (or is this already in the book, i forget) - limbs that help with manual controlling vehicles.

Now you have me wanting to come up with a character who has reasons to have cyber limbs optimized for Free-fall, just because it seems like one of the least useful standard skills.  Better glide surfaces on the limbs, perhaps?

On a more practical note, optimized for Sneaking (legs designed to step very softly, able to move very slowly and smoothly or lock in position indefinitely), for Lock Picking (extra fine finger motor control and pressure sensitivity) or, for the improbable go-ganger market, Pilot Ground Craft--motorcycle (ummm, hands designed to more perfectly fit the handle-bars and digits that are optimized for the controls?)?

I like the freefall idea. add some rapelling gloves and a climbing kit and you'll almost never lose your grip and fall to your death!

I could totally see piloting skills.  Like, they're designed with more twitch-control in mind, and to do a littlebit of "translation", to change some impulses into the correct impulse for when you're driving.  Or shaping the hands to grip the wheel more easily and such.

Could there be other social skill ones?  I'm trying to wrap my mind around a way to get Con, Negotiation, or to make it so the Etiquette Bonus would be properly universal (like it mechanically would be).

I don't think you have to. Even if the optimisation always applies, it's within the realm of the GM to add negative social modifiers for being inappropriate or ineffective.

thats where the cyberlighter comes in

Lock Picking (extra fine finger motor control and pressure sensitivity) or, for the improbable go-ganger market, Pilot Ground Craft--motorcycle
parachute scoop arms that catch air  again cyberfinger  lockpick or autopick would be a good combo also pilot groundcraft motorcycle for urban brawlers

Probably Performance fine motor control for playing instruments intimidation case mod to make it look more scary Etiquette for fine subtle correct precise movements in pleasant company course that could be said for leadership subtle posturing to make you look more confident so people will follow you / believe you
