Title: Hmhvv question
Post by: zeththeadeptork on <01-31-16/1516:28>
I'm playing a pixie shaman, And listened recently to what Opti posted about hmhvv I was just wondering if pixies are vulnerable to this and have there own variation.

I haven't read anything indicating so thusfar, but since sasquatches can catch strains one and two of HMHVV, I wouldn't be too surprised if that were the case. The only thing stopping the creation of such a variant would be finding a creature from popular myth to compare the pixie to after infection.

Here's my quick and dirty suggestions for a Pixie HMHVV strain.

HMHVV Strain 1: Redcaps.

Redcaps are the result of pixies infected with HMHVV 1, and gain essence drain just like vampires. Redcaps share the dietary and essence requirement of vampires, but may only satisfy these through violence. Rather than drink metahuman blood, redcaps must bathe in it and absorb it through the skin. Redcaps do not gain the Mist Form ability as vampires do, nor do they gain an allergy to wood.

You could also try:

HMHVV Strain 2: Kobolds

Pixies infected with HMHVV 2 fall into a coma, during which time their skin begins to excrete a protein that creates a cuccoon-like shell around their body. The metamorphosis causes the pixie to lose its wings (as well as the ability to fly) and invariably causes its skin and hair to turn a deep cobalt-blue color. Kobolds have a dietary requirement for raw meat, but also have a compulsion to tamper with foci, spell materials and formula, spirit reagents, and alchemical creations by other mages. Should this tampering result in their user becoming hurt, the damage is converted into essence on a 1 essence per 2 boxes basis. Kobolds, however, gain the "concealment" spirit power.

Of course, these are neither stat-complete or in-game lore-friendly, but hey, it's your game, and if the GM wants to do it, cool. You might just have to come up with a fair price in karma.

Traditionally, HMHVV only affects metahumans..... so human and human offshoots. (Orks, trolls, elves, etc. Also gives you an idea how closely related sasquashes are to humans, as they can be infected as well).

But that is it. Shifters can not be infected. (They are ANIMALS that turn into metahumans. NOT  metahumans that turn into animals - HUGE difference!!) And thus, neither can Pixies as they are not strictly meta-human.

At least by canon. Home games, anything can happen.

RAW, the only metasapient critters that can be infected with HMHVV are Sasquatches.

These kinds of threads make me smile. Considering how today is going in the 3D world, that's a plus.

I find the first one way more creepy.

Patrick, any tips on making a relatively balance stirge, tooth fairy, etc?

Well, my question is which is Strain I, and which is Strain II?  I lean towards Stirges being Strain II, they seem more feral, which the general result of Strain II.  Tooth Fairies do Essence Drain when stealing teeth, I guess?

I'd line them up with Goblins and Gnawers.
