Title: How important is the Strength attribute to you?
Post by: PiXeL01 on <02-23-16/1915:13>
It's been a long time since the recoil rules were changed. As a result strength lost some of its importance.
So I was wondering how you treat strength on your characters.

Personally I always try to find a way of getting to 4 because of recoil compensation. At our table we still use the pre-errata recoil rules so that extra point goes a long way in my book.

I generally play mages, so STR is generally a dump stat.... so 2 to 3 on average.

Gun combat on my mage comes in two flavors. Either a heavy pistol (so recoil isn't an issue) or smg and suppressive fire. (So again, recoil isn't an issue).

But that's me.

Being as I wasn't aware of the errata to recoil rules until you mentioned it strength has been fairly important to my characters. Recoil being the main reason and not getting tossed around in melee a fairly distant second.

It heavily influences your physical limit, so most definitely not at 1
Everything else depends on character type

I generally try to have all stats at least at a 2, but other than that I don't worry about it outside of combat focused characters.

As Dinendae said, I never create characters with a real dump stat.  At least 2 for all stats and higher depends on role in the party and also a bit on background.

Always chosen with regard to Physical Limit, so minimum 3. Stealthy gun user has 5, melee Adept is at 7 and the orc thrower at 11.

Having a 1 attribute doesn't have to mean it's a dump stat, playing with a substantial disadvantage can be entertaining, it's very similar to have a negative quality.

sheepishly stands there with sculpted muscles.
maxed out then additions on top. 8 atm. agility at 7.

in our group the heavy lifting doesn't get done by trolls. its the two elf chicks who lift and shift.  a brawler with 8, me. and the bow mage with magically upped to 6.

Usually between 2 and 4, though the latter is reserved for dedicated fighters that need both the additional point of RC and the Armorslot.

3 is often good enough. Enables you to carry a Helmet and Forearmguards while still allowing you to get to RC 6 easily on most weapons.

I am generally not a fan of maximum stats as I would then have to explain why my char is doing shadow work instead of something legal or at least be backed by someone with influence. It can be explained, but sooner or later the standard "doesn't want to" gets boring.

On the other hand a stat of 1 is out of the question unless we talk about that pesky fable-fly with the rating 1 bow. Yes everything beyond 1m is -1 die at least, so what?
For Metahumans stats of 1 are just asking for trouble and if you have them you again have the explaining to do. Why would a runner team keep you around? Again it can be explained, but the "power of friendship" is lame even before you use it for the first time.

Generally I prefer Jane/Joe Average characters who excel at blending in. There is no greater threat to your career than being looked at.

ya considering str is usually just used for damage and atheletic checks 2 if not combat 4 if combat usually just wear shock gloves or killing hands elemental strike elemental body electricity for 9S and 12P/S -3 AP respectively and 9P/S for astral combat on a shaman elf character

This.  Even if you're playing Simple: Take Aim, Simple: 3-round burst, on your stealthy gun bunny, you're not going to be very stealthy with a limit of 4 on your sneaking tests.

Dump it except for Sams, who always have at least average because having Unarmed + Bone Lacing as back-up is a Thing.

Who cares about Physical Limit when I can exchange spells for some physical actions and have Edge for the rest  :P

Depends on what I play, mages good by, same with Face/Sam-lite using monowhips and pistols (while use karma to raise it to 2 after a few runs). Others around 3-4. Melee builds near max (using 'ware or Qi Foci to max), along with max agility.
