Title: Steel Lynx size
Post by: Fabe on <04-10-16/0010:13>
So I recently pick up this pretty sweet looking sci-tank for my 3D rendering work and I figure with some size adjustments it'll would make a nice 'steel lynx' type drone . the thing is I'm not sure how big the lynx is suppose to be. a bit of research seems to put any where from the size of a compact car down  to some thing that's only about waist high on a person. Is there a current canon size for the steel lynx or should I just go with what ever I feel like?

Teh Steel Lynx can fit inside a building, so, about as wide and long as a coffee table, with a height that varies depending on the elevation. (The legs can, IIRC, also be splayed out a bit for better stability) ... it can be about as tall as a man at full "up", but is generally looking around heart level with the gun barrel.

So, big, but not BIG.

About the size of a Smart Car.

Look at this: (http://dark.kraken.free.fr/SteelLynx.jpg)

Hey, that's the picture I was thinking about! You can see how it uses the legs to change elevation, from "Man-high" at the one extreme to "Thigh high" when running flat.

Thanks guys that give me some good references . I think I might have a good start now for crating a drone that is not a steel lynx but fill the same role.

I just need to kit bash a turret for it I think it'll look OK.

The three new Ares "MicroTanks" are  a bit larger than the Lynx, but are also up-armored and heavily-armed. (And come standard with a military-grade Pilot program!) The treads are *murder* on floors, but you can do it in  a pinch.

I can attest from personal experience that treads are also murder on pavement, especially new(ish) blacktop.  :-\

Where are the "MicroTanks" listed?

That picture is the best comparison IMHO.

But you can also compare it to the other Drones in the CRB that mention sizes.

Also look at its Body rating = 6 or roughly double an average human for some comparison.

The other "Large" drone has wings but ranges from "LawnMower" when stored to "Hanglider" when deployed.  So again, bigger around than a human but not as tall when stored.

The Medium's, 1 size smaller, have the Anthroform drone which is the same size as a Human.

I think that picture is dead on.  When its "Tall" its still about 2 people shaking hands in ground print, and when its "Short" its probably 4 people holding hands in a circle around.

So as mentioned,  a "big" Coffee or "small" Kitchen table in rough size.   For sure smaller than any car, but bigger than some bikes.

Which also means crafty riggers can strap a person to or ride their lynx if needed.

I had a 4E character install a seat atop a Lynx replacing the turret. Made for a badass wheelchair.
