The Mundane character thread got me thinking that we should have some templates/ideas of playable mundane characters. Magic and Resonance are rare, 'ware can be expensive/uncouth/unnatural. Un-enhanced characters have a place in Shadowrun and I would love to see some! I am working on my own and will post soon.
Rules:
Any character generation method is ok. Having some priority builds would be nice though.
All books allowed.
Character description encouraged.
Drug use is ok. (But remember, no Narco or Nephritic Screens).
Sensitive System Negative Quality - If you take it, make a good case for it - (seems too much like a lot of free karma for this character type, but being 'wareless and mundane is already an opportunity cost and characters could use some perks. With definite plans to take cyberware in the future, I think it would be ok).

Concept: Playboy/Heir
Karma Expenses: 25 PQs, 10 Strength, 3 Contacts, 4 Nuyen, -22 NQs = 5 karma remaining.
Description: It's nice being part of an old political and well connected family, especially an off branch. You have plenty of siblings and cousins working their deals and falling in line, you can afford to get into a little trouble now and then without anyone getting too alarmed. In fact, your parents would rather put you up out of sight to avoid the risk! You have the brains, you have the class, you have the credsticks, and you have the connections. The rest of your fam can make good on their name. In the shadows, you want to make bad!
Alternative/Notes: Replacing Trustfund with Fame (Local). Converting more karma to nuyen to upgrade car/armor/drone...

Posted this in the other thread, and while it does have Sensitive System, I feel that that is a good thing to include because no matter how much one wants to play such a character the eschews the implanted augmentations, the temptation to sacrifice that character's integrity can be strong, and it can prevent that temptation.

As a GM if someone showed up with "Sensitive System" or an Allergy to anti-Rejection drugs, or an extreme phobia of Doctors or even all three or some other Negative Quality on a mundane character with no cyberware I wouldn't have an issue with it. The "Free Karma" isn't anywhere near as beneficial as what they give up.
Technomancer or Mage shows up with something cute like that I'd feel obligated to say something, but a Negative quality that supports a mechanically weak concept should be fine. YMMV.

I guess I'm ok with it as the concept could use all the help it can get... I just would be a little saddened to see a collection of characters that all had sensitive system. There can be other reasons to not get 'ware that aren't your body just rejects them.

Concept: Old School Trucker
Description: Whatever it is and wherever it went, you've hauled it in your truck. Times have changed, but your associates know that you can protect your cargo as well as any drooling, rigged' up poser of a driver. You even get to look like you enjoy the road, unlike those slot-heads! Even in (especially in) the 6th world, the road is is full of danger, out in the open away and from the city skylines most poor souls can never escape. Running cargo, running the shadows, running on empty, you take it all in stride as long as you have your with your ride, rifle, and grit. (And that's always!)

I'll be along to post something useful later, but I'd like to note that Metahumans really got shafted this edition. "Hey dumping two priorities you can totally free up resources for an Orc/Dwarf with high Edge!" Nope. Still stuck with a C skills and mediocre Edge. Seriously, wow. Humans won 5th edition Priority Version, I'll give elves an honorable mention. But Humans win not only in Quantity of Edge, but in Efficiency as they've got multiple selections that have convenient SAP totals. It's worth noting no Metahumans get 5 SAP, therefore you're either short or over the racial max.
Anyone got the phone number of the lead designer, he (she?) needs a talking too on Metahuman Equality.

And a Gnome Hacker. Could be a fresh starting out Decker, or could have some prohibition against 'ware. Works for either. Stupidly tight on Nuyen. Needs all sorts of things. That Priority System, she's a bitch.
Does the Hacking thing fairly well. Meat space abilities are lacking. Slow and not enough sneak, and fairly squishy. Would make a better VR hacker, but the lack of Noise Reduction is an issue. It does work, and should be able to improve quickly. Knock out the critical gear pieces, and run up Sneak. Pretty well set after that. Edge 5 forgives many Sins.

I am seeing some utility in mundanes eschewing 'ware at char gen and then adding later. Having a solid edge score from the getgo and not feeling short gear can feel freeing.

Description: No-Records Infiltrator/Thief with some handy SURGE abilities. Through stealth, charm, or force if needed, he/she can be trusted to get their target.
Karma: 30 Surge (29 + and 29-), 19 PQs, 1 Karma, -25 NQs = 0 Remaining.
Notes: Doing some experimenting with Mundane Changelings. This again is a character who would benefit from later addition 'ware (particularly bioware), but I think can hold their own now as 5th man. A couple of rounding out skills karma will go along way. Erased is more for fluff, as I am finding it to be a difficult "positive" quality at character generation. It seems better suited for an NPC or a PC who buys it to avoid trouble or "awarded" it somehow. Without the character probably has some better options.

I am seeing some utility in mundanes eschewing 'ware at char gen and then adding later. Having a solid edge score from the getgo and not feeling short gear can feel freeing.
Really table and build dependent. What is your budget, how does the table handle Deltaware Clinics, how much per run do you net, and is Work for the Man an option? If you've got a character that can hit Attribute, Skill, and Edge targets out of the gate and only needs a 100k or so of 'ware, sure. Trying to go from resources D to full on Street Samurai could be years though. Work for the Man and getting 10k+ per run speeds things up a lot. I wouldn't advise it for missions play or stingy GMs. You'll never get there.
The A stats, B Skills, C Meta for the human (infiltrator/combat/faces) that have been posted so far would do well quickly. 10k and 7 Karma per run, work for the man so over 20k per run net with a few Karma to pick up odds and ends. 10 Runs about 200k of ware? Pick up a little of this, a little of that. It works. But so does a lower priority Edge/Skill allotment and working for the People and just throwing 12 Karma a run at Edge and skills.
Feel free to bust out a spread sheet to see who catches up first.
If your table hands out 20k+ for runs while keeping Karma to the single digits, than yes, the low resource start will be more optimal. But Adepts and Mages still advance faster : )

Generally, when I do an Unaugmented Mundane type character, I'll usually have them (if I don't have Sensitive System on them) only be willing to accept genetic tinkering as genetic modification is the closest to "natural" of any of the types.
