Stuttr is thinking of running a game in the vein of the tangled currents.  He prefers a more street level game to start  then ramps it up as resources and karma accrue.  Anyone interested?

Street level has some problems (for example, you're better of being a TM than a decker, forget being a rigger, etc.) but it's not too bad.

I may be up for something like that, though entirely unsure on what role to play.  I typical gravitate to the soldier, mercenary, street samurai archetype, whether augmented or adept.  I may try something more tech-based or magic-based but I would need to read the rules on those and familiarize myself some.

Are we thinking some starting connections between characters, members of the same gang, bad shit happens, and we head into the shadows together?  Or are you thinking more street level operators, who end up coming together after running through their own separate threads?

Sorry this is a little premature.   I'm not really at all close to being ready to do this.  Ennui has a bad habit of jumping the gun.  I was thinking street level but playing around with the resources a bit since that seems to be the biggest issue.  I may end up allowing RAW but severely restricting gear ratings without prior approval as well as setting limits to maximum starting stats and skills.  I will have to make some tweaks

You would be independent operators or gang members if you want but with a limited pool of contacts.  You would each have a separate thread  which would come together eventually similar to the tangled currents play style.  I am not totally familiar with the rules so will probably play fast and loose which is one of the reasons I'm trying to keep it low level  until I get the hang of it more.  If you want to come up with some character concepts  and that sort of thing feel free but I don't think I will be officially starting this for at least a few weeks.

I will want backstories, individual goals and fears.  Strengths and weaknesses, not cardboard cutouts or munchkins.  My games also tend to be on the higher end of the darker edgier scale, expect moral quandries and deep dark secrets.

The problem for street level (or prime runner in fact), is that the most important impact is on resources: in one case you take a big hit, on the other case, you have a lot. For archetypes that don't rely on nuyens, there isn't a big impact, but for augmented, deckers or riggers, it's a big change. I don't know any house rules that change that (not that it doesn't exist, just that I never had to look into it ^^)

Anyway, deep dark secrets are cool :)

I've run a game that started street and still isn't quite on level with standard gen. as far as power goes. And I heard quite a bit of the howling that street doesn't allow hackers & riggers and really penalizes you for everything but mages. But, the story I wanted to tell was street and I did not change the chara gen rules one bit and just waited. After the howlers left I ended up with a gun girl, a rigger, a two mages and a couple of tanks, and the absolute best RP'ers on the boards, guys who wanted to play the game not the rules. (And yes, there was even a hacker for one of the chapters, but she had to leave when she got a new job.) Street does require an understanding on the GM's part that some of the resources they need have to come through the storyline. But, only you know the story you want to tell Stuttrboy, so tweak the gen. if you need them to have a bit more because you're starting the story a bit after they've advanced and not any other reason. And depending on the story you want to tell, (I need a bit of backstory on the story before I throw my hat in the ring), I'd be interested in a slot.

I've just made it back to the board since being away for a long time. I'm excited to see that there is a chance to join a great shadowrun adventure. I'd like to throw my hat in the mix to play a Adept maybe hobby hacker.

I'd love to know what are the character gen rules when you get around to it. This should be a fun time.

Yes I hope to have something up this weekend or next. 

Guidelines for characters will be sum 10 but resources cost +1 including level 0 resources and level 4 resources (which would be 5 under this rule) is not available.  No starting attributes can have more than +4 unless the appropriate quality is taken no skill can be higher than 5 without the appropriate quality no device ratings higher than 4 no availability higher than 8, without the appropriate quality.  15 Karma instead of 25 and no more than 15 points in positive and negative qualities.  All characters must start with a code of honor either one in the book or approved for no additional karma.  I reserve the right to veto certain things that I feel will impact game balance.  All characters must start with a connection rating 3 fixer I am calling Gunderson for now.  Characters will be based out of the barrens in a "neutral" territory with a number of factions all striving for increased power there. 

Characters will start out individual and will be occaisionally paired for others as needed by the fixer until you become a team and the story line becomes full blown.

No the tone is darker and edgier.  I don't kill people on purpose I want people to have fun but, but sometimes you have to decide if you'd rather go out in a blaze of glory or accept the consequences of your actions.

I was wondering is the resources street level nuyen or standard when you get it. I made one character with nothing but street build style, and he needs a bit of moding under your system.

Background
Cigz was born to a single mother, and has a brother 4 years older then himself.

Cigz mother was living in a small apartment when cigz was born. Cigz mother

worked selling drugs for the local gang. When Cigz was old enouph to go to school

he missed out on normal school since he was Sinless, instead he was home schooled

with a few other neighborhood kids. Cigz learned the basics of school but was

spending more of his time at firing ranges when he was 10. When Cigz was 13 years

old his mother was shoot in a drive by shooting, and died before she could make

it to the local street doc. At this time Cigz brother took care of him. At the

age of 16 Cigz started to pull his weight by start fighting in city wide pit

fights. Cigz was no champion but he was able to make a few nuyen. At 18 Cigz

spend all his saved up nuyen on a low grade radio shack cyber deck and begain

hacking. Two years later he was in tight with an on line Hacker group called

Freeze Code. The group has a wide range of hacker skill but mainly focusingon

gathing infomation for datahavens, and erasing data trails for nuyen. Cigz to

this day hang out with his fellow hackers in Matrix clubs weekly. At 22 Cigz

brother went missing. Cigz has tryed to find out what has happened to his brother

but is still unable to find out what has happened to him. Cigz will jump at any

info he finds about his brother but to this day no info has been found, his

brothers where abouts is still unknown. At 27 Cigz was still fighting in the pits

to make ends meet and with all his saved up nuyen has bought himself a new

upgraded cyber deck. The next year Cigz has backed out of pit fighting and has

put out feeler to get into shadowrunning hoping to get a good team to run the

shadows and make the nuyen to start getting some of the gear he is dreaming of

owning.

Stuttr is going to be final word but he did say max attribute was +4 I think that applies to magic as well, though I don't know if that is supposed to cap at 4 or 5 I guess.  Also where are you getting +4 reaction, looks like that may be a typo since there is only a +1 to initiative.

@Imladir: I've decided on character creation guidelines and i've given some basic info on the game but I haven't posted anything to start the game as of yet I hope to have something up within the week to have the official start and an OOC thread.   We can start individual story lines once that has been done and characters are OK'd.

To add a character to OP Go to the character tab on the campaign and click the + button on the tab where it reads character quick search.  Then fill out the fields as needed.  You can keep track of Karma and Nuyen rewards there on your character sheet.

@imladir Sky looks fine the more bio you have and the more you tell me about your character the better I can tailor your storyline.  Code of Honor doesn't have to be from the book it's more of storytelling tool (for me to impale you upon, muahaha etc.).

@scawire I looked at Cigz again and I think you put down Firearms as a SG but you don't have any skill group points, you may want to double check that.

Also remember this is a collaborative effort.  characters should have strengths and weaknesses. People they care about, lines they won't cross.  I will use these things to make the story more interesting and provide challenges that don't involve just rolling dice.  The further down this road you go the more rewarding your experience.

I had 4 skill group points given to me from the adept magic point system that is where i got the 4 firearm skill points from. I also double checked i have 4 more knowledge skill points i need to use since i have 16 not 12, it is something i forgot to change since the change From street build to your system.  I think ill change that later today.

The SG points are only for aspected magicians, the adept gains a  4 point active skill, not skill group.

I've changed him

I've modded his priorities (From EBBDC to EBCCC)
Loses 1 edge to buy up his magic
loses his opps on skill groups,
gets 6 skill points, + 2 from his magic priority giving him his pistol and automatics
gets 2 skill points for his athletics group
and last I fixed his knowledge skills

That will be all that changed on Cigz

Sorry again for messing up, I'm more use to using the Karma system so I miss read the magic priorities.

So Ennui are you going to be a player in the game too?

Bio:  Growing up Sam only ever dreamt of being a big time hacker.  She loved the old trids with the hacker heros and she had the analytic mind to go with it.   When she expressed for magic she was almost disappointed.  When Spider came to her it seemed a match made in heaven.  Her fascination with spiders, Spiders interest in technical things and her hatred of crowds seemed the perfect fit.  Aside from getting out of the debt she got herself into after Gunderson convinced her to borrow from him to get an actual deck, Sam wants a better and faster deck become a drek hot decker and maybe get a little better at magic.  She has some ideas how her magic can make her a better hacker in fact.

I'd like to play a technomancer message runner, small and quick and used to surviving on the streets.

Twist has been on the streets literally since the day he was born (his mom gave birth behind a Stuffer Shack dumpster), and quickly learned to use his wits to survive. Growing up in the Barrens was difficult and often dangerous, and his mother died of an OD by the time he was 5, leaving just him and his sister (dad was never in the picture). He got taken in by Gunderson's affiliates as a runner (of messages, not the shadows), and has been doing that for them for more than a decade. Recently, his latent technomancer abilities have blossomed, giving him a set of useful skills which he has decided to put to use taking bigger jobs so that he can get off the streets and see his sister go to college.

So he gave Vexboy a job as a makeshift security guard of sorts. Turns out Vexboy was hot with a handgun and he told a fixer he knew (Gunderson) of it. Vexboy now can pay the rent. He looks after the kid. Its nice to have someone who isn't gonna mug you on your side you know? Especially one who thinks your some massive tough guy despite having 3 times the magic as said tough guy.

Couple of issues.  Code of honor is needed, gonna have to veto simsense vertigo since you arent a hacker and common sense isnt going to help you with much other than maybe stopping you from doing something you should already know better than doing.  So it may not be as helpful as you might think it could be.

Malcolm Wincott had a good corporate upbringing, with the kind of life that most chummers only dream of: a good home, loving parents, and a bright future. A bit of a bookworm, Malcolm studied hard and got good grades, good enough to get into med school. He had dreams of becoming a trauma surgeon at a top hospital, but such dreams were not to be. Although he excelled in school, his success fostered envy and even hate in those that still harbored the bigotries of the past, those that felt that an Ork shouldn’t even be allowed in the same school as humans. At first the harassment was the usual stuff, Humanis trids left in his dorm, that kind of thing, but these only made him more determined. He studied harder and continued to excel. The incidents escalated, blood smeared on the door, dead lab animals in his car. But Malcolm was not deterred and was on track to finish his first year at the top of his class. That was when the drugs were discovered missing from the campus pharmacy. Records showed he was the last person to have access before the theft and although Malcolm protested his innocence, when the missing drugs showed up in his room he was expelled from school. Malcolm couldn’t go home. He couldn’t face his parents knowing that all their dreams for him were now in ruin, so he sold his bike and bought a one way ticket to Seattle.

Starting over in Seattle wasn’t that hard, a little hacking of the med school records to say that he had quit instead of being kicked out, and he was able to get a job with Doc Wagon as an EMT. Malcolm saw a lot of drek working the Barrens. Stuff he’d only seen in trids. The gangers shot up so bad they were more lead than meat, he could take that, but the kids caught in the crossfire was hard to take. His past weighed heavily on him and he took to drinking and then drug use: Long Haul for those overnight shifts, a little Bliss to take the edge off and maybe the occasional shot of Novacoke. He knew how much he could take and when he could take it so that it wouldn’t affect his job, but If it wasn’t for his natural constitution he’d be have been a burn-out long ago.

One night after a long shift, Malcolm was headed home when he spotted the aftermath of another turf war. Living near the border of the Nukes territory he’d seen plenty of this before. He checked the bodies for any signs of life, and was surprised to find one still breathing. Barely breathing, but breathing nonetheless. The Ork had at least a half of dozen bullets in him and was still hanging on. A shot of Crash and some road-side surgery, and Malcolm managed to keep the Ork alive long enough to get him to the hospital.

He had all but forgot about the incident until a few weeks later when a posse of Nukes road up on him with his former patient at the head of the pack. Turns out, that tough bastard was the leader of the Nukes. He and his boys had been ambushed by the Rusty Stilletos and left for dead. The ganger didn’t thank him.. not exactly.. instead he offered him work. “A guy like you could be useful to us. Maybe you could use a little cash on the side?” Malcolm fell in with Nukes. At first, it was just patching up their guys after the drek hit the fan, but as time went on he seemed to find himself closer and closer to the action.

Lately Malcolm (now known as “Killdare” on the street) has been burning the candle at both ends, working for Doc Wagon during the day and taking freelance jobs at night. He still does the occasional job for the Nukes, but more and more he gets work from others that have heard about his skills. Try as he might, he can’t escape his past and the dreams of a life that will never be. His drug use is getting worse, but he still manages to keep it under control.  He’s begun to cut back his hours at Doc Wagon and takes just about any job he’s offered. Half of him wants to put together enough money to open his own Street Clinic, while the other half hopes the next job will kill him.

Tedd grew up to a small and dysfunctional family in Puyallup, his parents were doing what they could but at the end of the day they were not enough and Ted found himself spending many hours in the streets. Pickpocketing was his first skill and he was not bad at it, at the age of 17 he finally piled enough money to buy an old and barely working Morgan Thunderbird. The darn thing was barely working but it was of his own design.

Tedd found himself a small abandoned petrol station and has begun renovating his Thunderbird. The off road vehicle was his first love. The model was so basic that it did not have any automation, no autopilot and no sensors. Tedd has spent hours trying to drive the antique car and have eventually claimed mastery on it. Mastery that has brought with it work, dangerous work.

Tedd was not anti technology, in fact the little kid has always dreamed of becoming a real life decker. He studied mainly from magazines until he encountered Kira. An older and very talented decker that shares with him his current living space. Kira is a professional shadowrunner and for the last few years she was instructing Tedd in her art, in exchange for little favors, driving favors.

Ted owes quite a lot of money to the Mafia, no - he was not stupid enough to borrow money from criminals. He was stupid enough to damage the 300k nuyen car of the local Mafia boss when he was driving Kira from another successful job to safety. Things got real for Tedd as he needs almost 40k to pay for the damages, or...  The mafiosi did not say what happens if Tedd would not pay but it was clear from the context.

As of his parents? How can he drop this on them? They work 11 hours a day just to put food on the table and they have his little sister to support. Ted is independent since he has met Kira, but Kira was careful not to make a shadowrunner out of himself. Since Tedd admires Deckers so much, he would never hurt a decker.

Tedd and Kira live in an abandoned gas station, Ted lives in the old management office, while Kira has converted an old convenience store to be her lab. The area where the pumps used to be has been converted to an improvised garage, where Ted and Kira have placed a large plastic structure to protect the vehicles from outside prying. Since Kira is friends with some professional runners, the area where Tedd lives is gang neutral - at least until a certain razor girl decides to leave the hood.

@Gilga Mostly fine...whats with the magic hackers ive got three now...if you owe money it will be to Gunderson.  The decker code of honor is a little undeveloped give me a little more like how can you tell they hack or not etc.  Also the shadow community is what you are working for Gunderson for, it will be either redundant or useless so you may want to rethink that.

Twist has a few problems that I'm seeing Knowledge skills at Int and Log x2 not x3 unless I'm missing something, but you can buy street skills at 2 for 1.  If you would go ahead and explain what you spent your karma on so I don't have to guess, I'd appreciate it.

Oh and if you are going to have a level 9 dependent I'm going to have to insist on at least a low lifestyle.

All of those are Street knowledges, which is where the extra points came from.

I might have over spent on karma, though. I built using Hero Labs.

I'm not going to have the chance to fix things fully until Sunday night, unfortunately, but if I reduce all of the knowledge skills by 1 each, and reduce the loyalty of Sgt Lawrence to 2, I believe that that should cover everything?

Well it opens out new options that may be fun to explore, but Tedd is also sort of good in many other things. So I am not particularly worried about him.  Can you explain the meta plot a bit, who is this Ganderson?  (other than being our fixer).

about the decker code - one can be never to use lethal actions in the matrix, against any persona. (no biofeedback). My inspiration is that Tedd consider these things to be 'dirty tricks' that no self respecting Decker should use. Kind of like honor among thieves - or his result of seeing his friend after biofeedback damage.

Like a boss seems like a bad game design because it basically say 'do not use cyber combat' a skill that I invested in, while it is cool as it frees skill points for a new shtick (and Tedd currently do not even have the means to do cybercombat (I'll try to see if I can fit a deck in there) I do not like that game design so I'll come off with a new code of honor.  Does it have to be about killing things? (because I do not see Tedd killing many things to begin with).

I'll figure out some other code of honor I guess.

Basically the change is warrior code (but there are some minor changes to equipment/skills as well). I kind of like how the debit plays in, he wants to be a decker or a rigger or both - but he owes so much money so these dreams will be significantly delayed. In the meanwhile he'll probably work on infiltration capabilities. (with Skills A he is a very diverse runner).

@Mercy I linked you with a few things I don't know what impassive and consummate professional do, so please post them (or anyone else watching the thread feel free)  You are a bit over on your arms rating base 4 then +1 per point of Str and Agi over 3 so a max of +4 total then the +3 agi rating, this would be fine if they are used but your character sheet doesn't say.  I assume the restricted gear is for false face but your +3 agi on main arm is rating 9 you could do max 2, and max 5 karma to start

I sent you a PM with the descriptions for the qualities.  and I am unsure of the arm issue.  My Hero Lab says that the main arm is Rating 2, availability 8.  I will reduce that if you think I need to, but it looks good to me.

Hmm.  Max agi for human is 6, so to get 9 agi you would need rating 3 agi enhancement and that's Rx3 availabllity.  Unless there's some errata I am unaware of (totally possible) it's a little high.

Yah.. I made that one.. then deleted cause I couldn't get some stuff to work. Or thought I couldn't.
So my new one got the _1 on it.

I copied my char over, and I added a couple things. I don't think you'll mind but they are:

Colt Agent Special w/ Concealable Holster and 10 Hollow point rounds (good to have a concealable pistol)
2 extra clips for both shotguns (so I can swap ammo easily)
Handheld Sensor Housing - Rating 3 w/Cyberware Scanner, MAD Scanner and Nanoscanner   (figured it went with the med skills, mostly I wanted the cyberware scanner, but you get 3 in the housing basically for free I guess? I can't figure that out exactly but they are 0 cost on Chummer)

You were right about the skill points as I did not copy over the Impersonation 5.  I have listed the karma expenditures as 15 for the qualities Biocompatibility (5) and Restricted Gear (10), then the 15 I get from negative qualities was spent for Logic 2 (10) and Gear (5).

I lowered my Charisma back to 4 to reflect that I think I confused you on the expenditures and you told me to add another 15 karma.  I am sorry for the confusion.

I've been looking for something else, but that was the closest since it has a Long Coat and something that resembles a shotgun.
I really wanted something with a red cross on it.. still looking. :)

BTW, I made some very small tweaks when I x-fer'd to OP. I discovered my contacts were Avail 10 so I removed the Visual Enhancement and dropped them to Rating 2.

Yah. I saw you mentioned that in a previous post so I figured it would be OK. And I wanted to fix the contacts availability issue.
I can't decide if Gel Rounds or Stick 'n Shocks are better.. so giving myself options. :)
Oh yah.. I picked up a Firearms license and Conceal Carry License.

Question.. Do I need a separate Commlink to broadcast my Fake Sin? Or can I just switch between real and fake on same Commlink?

You can swap them out but it requires a reboot, so it's not something you can do on the fly...it might be better to have a seperate one.

I just work less and less hours now cause I'm too busy drinking, taking drugs and doing jobs.  :D

I only didn't take the points since we had a limit of 15, but I figured that if I worked for DocWagon I needed both a SIN and a Day Job to reflect that, regardless of the actual points.

Ted has purchased Hardware and Pilot aircraft with Karma.  New active skills cost 2 not 1 karma and I can't tell what else you spent Karma on you have +13 points of negative qualities and -2 of Positive 4 karma spent on skills and I don't know where the rest went.

Negative quality in debit VI (I had to raise it a bit) poor Tedd.
Phobia 8 - total of  14 karma gained by negative qualities (along with the 15 karma he started with it adds up to 29.

Tedd is not a decker per say, he has the skills but lacks the equipment. He is that kids that knows everything there is to know about decks but is unlikely to afford a deck of his own. Then he unexpectedly got into debit making the decker dream even further away.

You have Kira that is his best friend - but they are friends, kind of like family. The debit to Ganderson (probably bought off from the mafiosi that Tedd accidentally wrecked his car, crushing. Tedd tries to gather the funds to get an auto shop and probably do some mechanical work to compliment Kira's side business with hardware repair and upgrades. Perhaps a good place to start the game would be with Tedd in his Thundercloud Morgan crushing into the expensive car in the middle of a chase. (always fun to start with a bang).  We can RP Ganderson bailing the kid out of the mob (probably as a favor to Kira) and who knows what happens next.
