What is this (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/450703636/shadowrun-sprawl-ops-boardgame?ref=discovery&term=shadowrun)?

Seems to be the "exciting news" teased yesterday.

This is the first Shadowrun project CGL has put up on Kickstarter, correct?

Without breaking the NDA, I can tell you that this game already was real fun to play in playtesting, and they made several changes during and after that make it even better. As they mentioned at one point, when they switched from 'first place all, then execute all' to 'execute most actions immediately', that was a really wicked change.

As for the comparison to Crossfire, the game can easily stand without expansions with plenty of replayability. The Final Missions all are different, which also impacts what people will mostly fight for on their way there. The Extra Locations will also really help, since you can add 1 and replace some for a big difference in the way you play the game.

Of course I would like a bit more info about some things, but already it's looking great and I went straight for the Mr. Johnson pledge when I found out about both 5-6 players and Co-op. 8)

Now the Add-Ons are a bit out of my wallet's reach right now, since I got a big expense going on named Wedding+Honeymoon, but if you really love metal dice or metal nuyen coins, they sure sound awesome! I'm considering getting some extra normal dice instead, for use in normal games. (A nice addition to my Q-Workshop dice! ;D)

Those metal dice are quite interesting...hoping we see the actual layouts in near future.

I'm curious what kind of Deluxe content they'll add as stretch goals once the $120k is reached. Until then it's simply new stuff for the game, period (so including all retail boxes).

They're talking right now about the coins, noting that unfortunately if they were to go for cheaper versions, it'd either damage quality or put the profit margin at risk. So understandably they're sticking to the normal MRSP.

Edit: Btw, they put the Kickstarter in the site's blog, but not on the banner.

Would an extra set of dice be needed though? Looking at the initial picture there’s only two Face dice (with stretch there’s three).
With the original amount of dice can you play the game without constant rerolling?
Title: Re: Shadowrun: Sprawl Ops Boardgame
Post by: Michael Chandra on <05-27-18/1718:26>
Oh I wouldn't want them for this, I'd want them for normal sessions. =P Adding a bunch of hit/glitch dice would be nice for Mini-Runs (Miniature-sessions).

Anyway, there's a limit to how much I can share without violating the NDA, but what I can (probably) tell is: In playtesting, yes sometimes we had too few dice, but that was before they tuned the game to wrap up faster (quicker Missions, just 4 Stages for a Final Mission*, less cards), and of course Veteran Dice helps (5+ dice become 2 less and a success). I'd consider it very rare now to get that high that you need to roll more than it gives you. So yeah, you don't need extra dice, but it's Shadowrun. It's not about needing. It's about wanting.

And yeah, there's only a few Face dice, but you only need that many, really. Faces are mostly just for giving benefits, not much significance in missions and very hard to come by compared to other dice. Their main benefit in Missions tends to be hoping to score a hit you can cancel an injury with.

* In the kickstarter, on the main page they show a 6-Stage Final Mission, while in the Rulebook you see a 4-Stage Final Mission. The 6-Stage is pre-nerf and the image will be updated in the future. You can imagine that 6 vs 4 Stages really makes a big difference.

That's good.  Don't want the announcement too easy to find right?

I've never played a game with custom dice where I didn't wish I had a second set.   It's usually an auto buy for me even as I'm buying the game for the first time.   Even if one set will cover all your rolls, it's still handy to have a set on each side of the table.

:-X Yeah, their blog kinda lacks visibility. It's not on Tumblr, though fortunately they did a few posts on Facebook about it.

The only downside to extra dice is that they're 6/6/6/6/6, while the base game uses 10/8/8/8/2. But for normal runs they'll be nice too. =)
Title: Re: Shadowrun: Sprawl Ops Boardgame
Post by: AJCarrington on <05-28-18/0840:44>
@Michael - can you comment at all about the dice layout? They talk about using them for the RPG in Update 8 (iirc), but I must have missed something? Is there 1 symbol to represent a glitch (1) and two symbols to represent a success (5/6) with the other sides blank?
Title: Re: Shadowrun: Sprawl Ops Boardgame
Post by: Michael Chandra on <05-28-18/0935:48>
The dice they currently have indeed have 2 Success symbols and 1 Glitch symbol, as well as 3 blank sides. There have been suggestions to add small numbers so they can be decently recycled for normal games and for exploding dice. I must admit I kinda like them without actual numbers, but if they stick to that I do hope they'll put some kinds of markings on instead.

Unfortunately I'll be in bed by the time they do a Co-op & Q&A stream this evening, so won't be able to ask about their current dice-plans. All I can tell you is that Lynnvander has to get an answer from Catalyst for what Catalyst wants for these dice, as it's up to Catalyst.

Post by: AJCarrington on <05-28-18/1350:41>
Actually, that answers most of my questions, thanks. I don’t think I’ll be able to make the Q&A session later either, so will have to wait and see the transcript. I kinda like the idea of just having the successes and glitches, but appreciate the other arguments. I already have a TON of normal dice, so the idea of these being special/unique is rather appealing.

There will be a live playthrough on monday! O_O Definitely a must-watch if you're interested in the actual gameflow. I might try to find time to rewatch that in my own timezone on tuesday. Haven't seen a playthrough since Playtest, and they changed a LOT to increase the pace since!

Meanwhile they're at $92.4k, so hopefully they'll hit the $100k for the foil board on monday or tuesday. Hope it will look gorgeous.

I won't be able to keep people up to date on the Kickstarter, I fear. =P Busy days ahead with wedding-prep, wedding and then packing stuff for the honeymoon... And I doubt I'll find much time in Scotland to go online and keep up with the KS and the forums. So AJ, I'm handing over to you, don't crash the ambulance whatever you do. :P

I’m hoping the KS will make it to 105k for the additional upgrade whatever that is
Title: Re: Shadowrun: Sprawl Ops Boardgame
Post by: Michael Chandra on <06-04-18/0234:22>
To celebrate 1k backers, they doubled their Gear+Loot rewards. So that's another 3 Loot Cards and 2 Gear Cards, on top of the ones already unlocked.

I am curious what the Additional Upgrade will be. Will it be just more Upgrade cards, or an additional fourth type? And if the latter, will runners then be able to handle 4 Upgrades (1 of each kind), or still 3 with max 1 of each kind? We'll find out soon I hope, they had a really nice uptick in backing yesterday, hope that momentum carries forward. Me, I want the Extra Location for more replayability fun!

I'm hearing talk of a SRO-backer exclusive Face in the comments, apparently I missed something important in the Q&A sessions I lacked time for. O_O And possibly SRR-backer exclusives? But yeah, apparently Smedley will be in the game for some people! (Kinda a shame it's limited like that, but eh.)
Title: Re: Shadowrun: Sprawl Ops Boardgame
Post by: AJCarrington on <06-04-18/0826:05>
I got an email from Cliffhanger indicating that throes who backed SRO and back this will get a bonus card, though no details as tat he actual card.

I’m rather intrigued to see what comes after $120K...which is looking very achievable at this point.

Apparently it's Smedley, a Face with a special ability. I like how he apparently made it out of the Boston Lockdown.

Smedley's on the Shadowrun Universe main page now! ;D He provides two face dice and a special ability as well. He's as expensive as a multiclassing Face, but without multiclassing. The special ability might make up for that though.

Are you a big Shadowrun fan?

Do you want to be an actual part of Shadowrun?

Now you can!

Become a Runner: New pledge levels posted. All these Pledge Levels involve submitting a photo that is converted into a custom Runner card for you. But there's more:

$250-pledge (150 only): The art will feature in future Shadowrun products.
$500 (50 only): You'll be on the box bottom AND a named canon character in a future Shadowrun product.
$2000: You will also become a major character in an upcoming Shadowrun novel.

Post by: Michael Chandra on <06-06-18/0844:35>
I'd wish, chummer, I'd wish. If I were, I'd use that cash to snatch one of those 2 Street Legend spots and convert my NPC, whose looks are similar to mine, into an official major character. ^_^ You can see him in my avatar. Now I am just looking into the Veteran Runner option.

Edit: Aaaand they're gone! 0 out of 2 Street Legends left, 47 out of 50 Rogue's Gallery left, 141 out of 150 Veteran Runners left. Thanks to that, we're already almost at the final extra die. Let's hope it's not a sixth Face die! It'd take a lot of effort to require that many! XD

After that we get into uncharted territory with Stretch Goals already partially discussed in Q&A (I think) but not posted yet. So now we wait. 8)

We are now on our way to new Stretch Goals, which include Legendary Runners, Freelance and Coop card packs, and at the $300k I hope we'll get to, an extra city board. Recap of things I got from scrolling through the Q&A on youtube:

- Standard card sizes so sleevable
- Normal nuyen tokens quantities the same as the metal version
- Metal dice will also have the additional face-dice if you buy the full set that matches the game
- The ??? stretch goals between $250k and $300k are currently being playtested and pricesourced, so not officially announced yet
- The ??? stretch goals likely will include add-ons, such as perhaps a dicebag, but again nothing solid yet
- Dragon Final Mission for Coop slowly destroys the city (aka Locations and the deck and more), so a ticking clock that hurts a lot
- Next week: ORIGINS!!!
- Foil Tokens will be Kickstarter-exclusive
- Legendary Runners will be Kickstarter-exclusive
- Extra Dice are Kickstarter-exclusive
- Extra Cards unsure if they will be or not right now
- Extra Locations are Kickstarter-exclusive
- They will likely print some extra KS-versions as part of the limited run and have those at cons only, not freely available for sale
- Legendary Runners are runners with abilities and will be rather expensive (probably 12k for 2 symbols and an ability)
- ALL extra dice are Face dice
- Veteran Runners were originally meant to replace Starting Runners, but it MAY become possible to become a Mage card or something else (I want a Street Face o.o)
- Veteran Runners may get a spare duplicate
- Veteran Runners get a digital file of the card as well

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS Michael!  :D

@Michael - do you know if they’ll have a full-blown pledge manager that one can add things to? Pretty sure I’m going to pop for the dice, but not sure about the metal tokens.

To quote an answer regarding 'can I back $1 for the Pledge Manager': " yes - however - if you are a brick and mortar store with a distribution account you can get a good deal - otherwise you have access to the items as seen here."

I assume that means all add-ons will still be available for people?_?

Big update to the Stretch Goals: the 300k extra city board goal is supposed to be a THIRD board. 200k is a second city, stretch goals after that have been pushed down the chart. So let's hope we get to 200k at the least and pray for 300k!

$142k now, so let's hope Origins causes a big push. 2 Legendary Runners down, 8k to Illustrated Standees, 28k to all five Legendary Runners, 58k to a second city board...

Harebrained Schemes sent out a mail about Sprawl Ops, SRR is getting a card as well. I kinda hope SR:HK doesn't, since I didn't get to back that. =P

I've had a chat regarding Smedley with primetide, currently checking up on things with Lynnvander regarding that chat.

Hoping the 2nd City is Boston. Unless a miracle happens, we probably won't see the dragon fight that we're supposed to get in SRC, they can definitely wrap up that story here (plus there's even a stretch goal of a dragon fight... that would match it perfectly! Just add nanites and a schitzoid personality to the dragon ;) )

You'll have to suggest Boston in the first update, hope it makes the poll of most popular 4 options and then wins the vote. Right now Chicago and Berlin seem to have the best odds.

15.5k to go for an extra city, another 25k for the dragon coop mission and yet another 25k for standee footers with team colours. First easy, second doable, third I'm praying. 115.5k I doubt will happen.

Yup, already did earlier today. Boston at the top of the list. :)

Come on its got to be Neo-Tokyo. :)

On a side note do we know if the foil board is replacing the existing one or in addition to the normal one. Sometimes the foiling process does not handle well with foldable items and I would hate to have a board that will tear up quicker than just having the standard board.

No idea, tbh. =/

Current vote standings, it's a close call, fortunately for me no boring Chicago. =P
Berlin (30%, 165 Votes)
Tokyo (30%, 162 Votes)
Chicago (16%, 88 Votes)
Hong Kong (16%, 87 Votes)
Montreal (8%, 44 Votes)

I voted for Berlin, but would be happy with Tokyo if the voting ended up going that way.

I hope the foil board is in addition to the standard one as well. I would be surprised if it became the “standard” for the retail release, but one never knows.

"@Michael, replacement. The NEW City is an extra and is NOT foiled at this time."

Don't forget this is Kickstarter version. I doubt normal retail will have foil.

13k to Dragon hopefully today. Praying for that 250k. If the last two days equal the first two we'll make it.

$300k goal has been REMOVED. Instead, you can pledge an additional $10 for the third city. Right now it appears Tokyo will win and Berlin will be the Add-On city (380 vs 308 votes).
