I'm just curious and it doesn't have any importance. Also, english is not my native language. That said:
How do you guys pronounce "UCAS" ? Like "You See A ess" or "Yukas" ? ;D
-
I say "YU KASS"
-
I say "YU KASS"
I do as well, and never thought there was an alternative.
Although now that the OP mentions it... I kind of like "You See Aay Ess" because it feels like a natural successor to "You Ess Aay" as the UCAS is the successor to the USA.
-
I say it both ways depending on the context. Usually emphasizing each letter when I'm being "more official" and treating it like a word (yu-KASS) when speaking quickly and casually.

Thanks for all the replies! This was bugging me for some time now, hahahah :P

What about Focus' plural "Foci" ?
Is it "Fawcee"? "Fo-Ky" ?
-
The plural of "Foh-Kuss" is "Foh-Kye".
-
Well, that one isn't a made up word...
From dictionary.com: foci (fō′sī′, fō′kī′)
Both an "S" and a hard "K" sound are acceptable, but in either case it rhymes with "So High"
-
I say "Fo Sye". But yes, both "Fo Sye" and "Fo Kye" are standard (acceptable) pronunciations.

So foci high?

As a red-blooded, natural-born citizen of the "See of Aay Ess," I am gravely offended.

Who kass? Me kass? No, YOU kass!
Also, I'm a weirdo ~ I pronounce "foci" FOE-kee. But that's just cuz I have a degree in Latin and so I pronounce things weird and classically
-
I'd always said it you-kass, but I think I finally figured out why. Up here, we often refer to our southern neighbor as the 'you-ess' and 'you-cass' has a similar sound and rhythm to it.
-
I always spell it out, You-See-Aay-Ess.
-
I spell it out and say U-C-A-S.
I say "Kass" for the CAS. I figured that the northerners wouldn't want to say "You-Kass" because it would sound too similar to their southern neighbors. Of course, if you say C-A-S then the opposite logic would apply.
And I say "FO ki" with a hard c.

I spell it out,
Like USA, I don’t say Yoosa, just the letters.
