Title: Armor question
Post by: SnekMatterhorn on <08-17-19/1417:22>
Prepping to run the new starter adventure and just wanted to make sure I have it correct:

Armor only factors into defense rating for comparison when attacked, correct? It doesn’t soak damage or impact soak/body.

Thanks!

Correct. Damage levels and soak pools are down now as part of that, making net hits extra dangerous.

Since armor seems to range between 1 and 4
I don’t think it would noticeably change the game if you houseruled it so it did. It’s like 1 dv less on average an attack. Taking 2 instead of 3 or 7 instead of 8 isn’t that big. Yeah with edge it might be 2 or 3 so less but for a big edge use it’s not that big of a deal.

I strongly recommend not out of nowhere talking about houserules when someone wants to run a Beginner Box game and simply asks for rule clarification. Let them get a feel of the system first.

Haha all good. Thank you for the responses! I’m reading both the Shadowrun and Cyberpunk Red starters to get a feel for both game and compare/contrast for my players. I have it now that armor only really matters for edge - and that edge is really central to Shadowrun.

Speaking of Edge, one thing people easily miss: When you reroll dice for 1 Edge per die rerolled, you can either reroll your own, OR those of your opponent...

Which means you should typically be making your opponent re-roll a hit, right? 2/3rds chance to turn that into a miss, versus 1/3rd chance to make one of your misses into a hit. Same effect on the net hits. In many opposed tests, unless your opponent gets 0 successes, re-rolling your own dice is a mistake.

Unless you don't have a hit at all to begin with. Or unless you are about to glitch.  Or critical glitch...

Or making a single roll vs multiple opponents.

When summoning, making the opponent reroll is best: Also decreases Drain.

Why did I not think of Summoning for making the Spirit reroll their hits....life changer.
