Can a Human really take Dermal Armor and Thermovision Qualities with starting Karma? Or did I miss a limitation somewhere?

It could be surge or while never really reflected before in previous editions, since Everyone comes from human stock.  it’s not a stretch that you have a little troll in you but not enough to manifest fully as a troll. It might give ideas for other qualities down the road. Elven lifespan for example.

Tech explanations are also possible:

Experimental 'ware.  Or a Parent had some kind of Geneware that you happened to inherit.  Or you were Bio-engineered yourself, little in utero improvements as it were.  Although that explanation works better for Low Light/Thermo Vision and such.
