Title: [SR6] Linguasofts?
Post by: Maded on <09-07-19/1004:38>
So linguasofts are restricted to skilljacks in 6e? No representation for real-time language translation services accessible on the Matrix or through commlink apps? Seems an oversight since we already have some models of this service available now. House rule time, I guess? Or is there something in the works for a Matrix supplement maybe?

The way I see Linguasoft, is it's more about making it so you 'naturally' understand and are able to speak it, vs a translation program that listens via commlink, translates, then displays or repeats the message in chosen language. One is a more organic experience and would be beneficial in negotiations (Do they need to know you're using Linguasoft, or just let them assume you know their language and are using it as a sign of respect, for example...)

An example in a short fiction was someone pretending to be native against xenophobes but it didn't know a tricky phrase.
