my gm vetoed my character saying i should change it, but i wasn't inclined to play him any other way.
so i got the idea to make a completly new one based on mcgyver
i am positivlely sure he needs the jurryrigger quality but im on a los on how to divide his stats, skills, etc....
without going over 400BP
any suggestions and mcgyver trivia are welcome :)

a teaser to get things going ;)

You need three things to be McGyver. Jury Rigging, Edge 6, and lots and lots of skills. Take a high Logic, medium intuition and Charisma and let 'ware make up for agility and reaction.
-
ive tried but as far as i could figure out in that situation its eithet skills or ware :(
-
Skillwires!
With a bag/satchel/trunk of softs. ;)
-
indeed,
but that woulnd't be mcgyver, unless u could jurryrig the skillwires?! :-\
-
In addition to what has been said you should take all the skills that don't default, and he's a magician and a hacker/rigger...

Whenever we try to replicate awesome Characters from other areas (Fiction TV, books, comics, movies etc), it's very hard to squeeze the requirements into a starting character, especially if comparing a late season character to a newb shadowrunner.
MacGuyver/RDA/o'Neil demonstrated a massive amount of high-skill abilities over his years of TV, so it would be unreasonable to squash them into a newb runner that could do everything.
I believe there's another thread where a player wants to emulate everyone's favourite comic mercenary, 'Deadpool'. Again, you just can't pack everything Deadpool does into a starting PC...
So, what can you start with?
- The Attitude (note: MacGuyver was incredibly easygoing and positive, while o'Neil was more of a scoundrel with a sarcastic wit)
- High Key attributes especially the key ones of Logic, Charisma and Intuition
- Qualities that will serve the PC for ever (like Juryrigging, First Impression etc)
- Some of the skills, generally at lower levels. No, I'm sorry, you can't shut down a nuclear reactor with a paperclip, but you can still perform science-based feats beyond the ken of normal men!
Honestly, I'd make MacGuyver a Physad, but focus on things like Increased Skill (technical skill) and Increased Attributes to just get ratings that go through the roof, and a lot of Pain Tolerance and Mystic armour! :)
That way, you know MacGuyver is more than Mundane, but not a combat junkie
And maybe an Internal High-End commlink with Computer skill, so that while he's not a big hacker, he can get any information he needs on the fly, even when captured by those dastardly villains ;)

Good one to build.
Juryrigging is a must.
I'd say Logic, Edge, Intuition, Charisma are your prime stats, in that order.
Good skills to have that would reflect the character would be:
Chemistry as an active skill
Medicine
Cybertechnology
Demolitions
Automotive Mechanic
Industrial Mechanic
Hardware
Bunch of Knowledge skills. Like tons of them. Lots of academia, science, etc.
I'd say make him an Adept and give him Analytics, Cool Resolve, Multi-Tasking, and perhaps some Improved Skills if you have the points.
He should also take Pacifist at the first level and Incompetence in a least pistols. n_n

all sounds good
maybe i should give him the lucky quality, with edge at 8 i could use it a lot in critical situations (like disarming a nuke with a paperclip, maybe also a rubberband and a straw for a +2 bonus for superior tools ;D)
ive changed the build a several times now, and im liking him more each time :)
a few more times and maybe me and the gm will be satisfied (she doesn't like me playing a magical character again ::))

Not old.... Just well versed in RDA history 8)

I also want to MacGyver a Stargate now for some reason... While missing Alf.

You know your TV role has been successful when, in common parlance, your name has become a verb:
This also led to the verb, "to MacGyver". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacGyver#MacGyverisms)

The pilot of the TV show literally uses that term for how they jury-rigged the portal to work. Right in front of RDA.
There's an outtake where one of the actresses is complaining that she's stuck somewhere "With MacGyver! He should be fixing us a way home out of a tube sock and a paper clip by now!"
-
whats wrong with alf? huh

It was on at the same time MacGyver was. RDA often joked about this on the show in character, often saying "I never watched Alf."

I love that one. They're freezing, and she's bitching he can't jury-rig a heater..
RDA almost broke out laughing too. Have never seen that man break character onset, but that out-take was close ;)

aaaah
who can resist the charm and wit of mcgyver
think about this:
chuck norris = mcguyver
raw power = wit + paperclip
