Title: [SR6] When to use the climbing rules
Post by: Sugarpink on <04-23-20/0511:42>
So. I just had a look at the climbing rules for the first time. And... climbing seems really hard (Base Threshold of 3, so to move forward you need 4 hits at least).

For what situations are these rules meant to be used? I get it, if I am scaling a steep wall of a building or a mountain, this makes sense. But are these also meant to be applied to objects that are meant to be climbed? (Ladders, Ropes, Climbing Poles, etc.) because for those objects it seems really difficult (even with the -1 for "Clear Footholds").

I'd apply it to actual walls and such, not to things meant to be climbed normally. Or at the very least reduce the threshold with -2 when it's 'designed for climbing'.

Honestly, I also think Assisted Climbing needs a boost: Should be Temporary Edge on each Test, not 1 Permanent Edge for the entire climb.

Ok, that's kind of what I thought. But I wanted to be sure my rulings are sound. Thank you!

I have no idea how one would even go at climbing a sound wall. Noise canceling gloves?
