Title: Heavy Assault Pacifist
Post by: Presidentevil133 on <03-12-11/0027:52>
So, the other day a friend of mine was complaining he had become bored of his street sam. His argument was that there's very few good nonlethal options for heavy combat. Sure, a dart pistol with Narcoject rounds is fun, but serious armor is going to laugh at those puny darts and their lack of armor piercing.

I on the other hand think that a pacifist with heavy weapons could be a.) possible and b.) quite a bit of fun to play. So I started with an ArmTech MGL-12 modded for full auto, extended clip, and personalized grip. For accessories, I added a Sound Suppressor, topmounted smartgun with airburst link, and gyrostabilizer.

Yes, my quest for pacifism led me to a grenade assault rifle. In my defense, there are so many different types of cool grenades that don't kill people. For example, flashbangs, glue grenades, or gas grenades that cause terrifying hallucinations!

The problem is, I'm not quite sure which chems are good and which are rubbish. So, I turn to you, Shadowrun Forums. What should I put in my chemical grenades?

Neuro-Stun is a favorite one to use.  Or a Nausea Gas.  Those are good for Grenades.  DMSO-Additions will also ensure that gas masks won't keep them out completely, only a full chem suit.  Just hope you don't run into Allergies.  Seven-7 also seems interesting as well.  A DMSO and Gamma-Scopolamine cocktail would make an interesting combination, paralysis for an hour or so, and then works as a "Truth Serum".  Those are all in SR4A, on or about page 255.

If you have Arsenal, Freeze Foam is an interesting option for physical incapacitation.  Also, drop a large enough grenade in a hallway, and you have a simple sealed passageway for a little bit.  Won't last long, but if all you need to do is get out the fire exit and get to the car...

Warp (Also in Arsenal) is a hallucinogen used by terrorists and raves.  (There's a combination of people I never thought I'd be connecting!).  Not lethal, but addictive and brain damaging.  Depends on just how pacifistic the character is, and just how badly the targets deserve a bit of revenge.

Not entirely sure you can suppress a Grenade Launcher, but then again, who knows?

With full auto, I'd install MRSI software and go with flashbangs. you still might pulp people tho.

Yeah, sound suppressor on a GL???

Wasn't there an industrial strength version of freezefoam in WAR?

Simplest method I can think of is a splash grenade filled with universal sealant. (augmentation) Find your boom point, anything within 10m receives a coating of steel-equivalent bonding nanite gel. Airtight and not something you want on your guns. Or clothes.
270¥ a pop, and just outside the reach of starting characters.

I don't want to look at Arsenal right now, but whatever happened to the old standby of DMSO and Gamma-Scopolamine? Or DMSO and MAO? Or DMSO and fecund refugee camp water?

/assumes you all get the idea.

Sheer volume of repetition? "Take X and add DMSO" is usually effective, but is it a combination people need prodding to think of?

I had a Decker that didn't like to kill, so I was researching gasses and came across Hyper. I don't know which book or edition it originates from, but I found it here: http://denver.wikidot.com/info:chemical-stun-damage

It makes everyone it hits in its radius completely useless and makes them take more Stun damage from every additional wound.

Unfortunately, MRSI is 20F along with most of the really good stuff. No ITS Gonryu for me.

As for, the suppressor, 20th Anniversary simply says that silencers are for single shot or semiauto weapons, and suppressors are for burst fire/full auto. But yeah, silencing something that shoots explosives may be a bit...eh.

Well, from a mechanical standpoint, I guess it's possible to suppress a Grenade Launcher with the traditional techniques.  But it'd have to be something custom made.

If you're using a 40mm Grenade, however, you're pretty much going to be making some noise anyhow, so why bother?  Even gas grenades aren't exactly silent.

Grenade launchers themselves don't make too much noise, think a burp or someone passing gas. It's seriously just this thoomp noise, it's what comes out of them that makes the noise.

If you take the restricted gear quality twice you could get the ITS Gonryu (20F) and MRSI Software (14F) if the GM allows MilSpec equipment. It doesn't seem like the suppressor would do much good but from what i understand of how they work it seems possible.

Warp is a personal favorite of mine.  Like CanRay said, it can seriously screw people up, but it's not really lethal and it makes for some entertaining scenes.

Gel rounds are good too.  You have to be careful with them though.  Because while they're technically non-lethal (they do Stun damage) it's fairly easy to push the stun damage too far into the lethal range.  Especially when using machine guns and assault rifles.

And there's a drug (I can't think of the name right off) that paralyzes anyone that takes it.  Of course, it hyper-activates their brain, if memory serves, so you may not want to shoot mages with it.

Slab? think it just paralyzes them.

Could be.  I seem to remember the description saying it was popular with mages and hackers.  I'm going to have to look in the book when I get home.
