Title: Shadowrun guns in real life?
Post by: Warden Drake on <06-05-20/2159:42>
Has anyone ever tried to compare the gun designs in Shadowrun to guns IRL?  For Instance:

Ares Alpha: Resembles an L86A2/TAR-21 with a grenade launcher attachment.

Model 2054: Resembles an M1014

Savalette Guardian: FNP-45

Cavalier Arms Gladius: M3 Grease Gun

Cavalier Arms Crocket EBR: M14 EBR

What do you guys think?  Can you find guns IRL that look like the guns in-game?

Well, an obvious one is the p90 and Praetor...

One of the recent editions established that all SR Firearms were Electrically ignited caseless ammo.
Which certainly limits your field.
To something like
Voere VEC-91
H&K G11
FDM L5
There is probably more but that's the only ones i know.

Don't mean to sound rude, but when you post guns, could you say which specific IRL guns resemble the in-game guns?  Like the Savalette resembles an FNP-45.

Edit: What I mean is that; can you find guns that actually physically resemble the in-game guns?  Ammunition type doesn't matter, really; just design.

Your original post calls out gun design not gun appearance.

To me fire mechanism and ammo are more interesting aspects of design then what the exterior looks like.

I guess pretty guns are more popular? But I don't really think that's true, I don't think i'd call any AK variant pretty, but it's certainly very popular, and it's even in SR.

I'm leaving out the obvious examples like the MP-5 TX, Ingram Smartgun, etc.

The original Ares Predator is modelled after the gun Robocop uses, which in turn is a modified Beretta 93R.
The Assault Cannon class is inspired by the Cobra Assault Cannon, also from Robocop, a modified M82 Barrett.
The Vanquisher and Vindicator cannons are inspired by the GAU-8 Avenger of the A-10 Thunderbolt II.
The Walther Palm Pistol looks like the "Bladerunner Blaster".
The TMP Submachine Gun looks like a Tec-9.
The LAV-98 "Devil Rat" APC is a M113.
The LAV-103 "Striker" Light Tank is a M2/M3 Bradley IFV/CVF.

The Steyr AUG is a futuristic looking rifle from the 1980s that was almost directly ported into the Street Samurai Catalog set in 2050:

Does anyone know what the Predator V looks like?  It kinda looks like a cross between the Beretta and a Desert Eagle.

It's supposed to be the Auto-9 (a heavily modified Beretta 93R) from RoboCop after a few generations of firearms technology and culture changed.  So, the 5th Iteration of the Auto-9, after marketing got involved in how it should look.
