Was reading the 4th edition magic book the other day, with my mind on my old mystic adept.
Ally spirits:
They get a sorcery skill, why not forgo that in favor of adept powers, especially if the summoner already has some. (You know the psych imprinting of the conjuring magician...)
Free:
What can't they do! The great unknown of the deep metaplanes n' all that jazz. ;)

Let me just say that you are not the only person to consider this.

... So tempting

Free Spirit PC's are granted the Magician positive quality for free.
Generous GM allowed me to change Magician to Mystic Adept to see what would happen...
Result? Fun and Shennannigans for all :)
However, there were many complications regarding where Phys-Ad powers counted (Physical Manifestation vs Astral Plane).
ie:
- Mental type powers (Linguistics, Multitasking, Eiditic Sense Memory etc) were fine, and could apply in both worlds
- Purely Physical type powers (Increased Reflexes, Elemental Strike, Enhanced Senses etc) could only apply to the Physical Manifestation
- Magical powers could transfer if they related to Astral Combat (ie Killing Hands, Critical Strike)
- and others were judged case by case (like Improved ability, skills etc)
It was a fun exercise, but without official rulings, we had to deal with a lot of strange stuff on the fly... ie:
- If a free spirit with Mutable/Realistic form powers Manifests as a Toaster, do they still get Improved Attribute (Str/Rea/Bod/Agi) bonuses?
and others..... like I said...fun and shennannigans :D

Stick a piece of bread in the spirit and watch them launch it through a plasteel wall.

Indeed... Exotic Ranged Weapon (specialisation in Rye)?
As is (without the Mystic Adept Component), there have been concerned conversations with GM as to the limitations of Mutable Form/Realistic form. Guns? Cars? Tanks? Walls? Small Buildings etc? (but that's another thread entirely :) )
