I've been wanting to play a rigger for some time now. I've got Dwaine "Cowboy" Gromner in the character creation and critique section. http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=3208.0 (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=3208.0)
Cowboy as a bit of a problem with ADHD and enjoys watching old western trids a bit too much. He used to be a long time running champion on a reality game show called "My Corps children are smarter then yours!" before it got cancelled.
I've also been working on another type of rigger who goes by the name Enigma. His paranoia leads him to move every month has he tries to spoof a new life style for himself each month along with a few safe houses as well. He rarely goes anywhere in the flesh and if he does its probably in a disguise.
Can I play an A.I.?
Perceptive
Cost: 5 or 10 BP
Perceptive characters are likely to notice small details and
clues that others may miss. Perceptive is available at two levels. For
5 BP, characters with this quality receive a +1 dice pool modifier
on all Perception Tests, including Astral and Matrix Perception
Tests. For 10 BP, the modifier rises to +2. This quality does not
effect vision modifiers in combat.
Restricted Gear
Cost: 5 BP
The character knows just the right person to get ahold of that
one elusive piece of restricted gear or miltech weaponry she really
needed. Every time the character takes this quality at character
creation (max 3 times), she may exceptionally buy a piece of gear
with an Availability of up to 20. The character may also save the
quality to buy one such item during play.
I was looking over enigma and realized he has alot of qualities both positivr and negative from the runners companion. As you don't have the book, and as its less complicated of a situation as playing something like an AI I was wondering if this would be allowed possibly?
Alright so if no A.I. then I've got an Elven Adept who worked for one of the crime organizations that I'm working on. Would be Close Combat/Close Fire Support/Stealth probably. She also uses qualities for Runners Companion though so I'll have to see your answer to that.
Same here, in my concept I also used some RC quality's (There are so many cool quality's there) as they fit the story for this character.
I'm toying the idea of playing a technomancer (more like a technoshaman) who has a very mystical view of the Matrix (seeing some books about the internet and sci-fi in "ancient" times as prophecy books. She would specialize in invading systems without being spotted (not virtual combat).
Here's a Mystic Adept I made. Like the others, RC qualities in the mix. I'll post them at the end.
The Idea is a semi-combatant MA-counterspeller with some decent lookout capabilities.
If the lack of contacts is a problematic, I understand, but I sort of like the idea of a transient Buddhist Monk just getting swept up in something taking him around the world. The really excellent thing about Buddhism and a Buddhist character is that Buddhism is a scientifically-minded philosophy of religion. They look for paths to enlightenment in all sorts of things. Monks have tried to reach enlightenment by getting piss-drunk and punching people in the face. Hell, the Shaolin were famous for trying to wind the path to enlightenment through violence, so why not Nirvana through grand larceny?

It's been a while since I've GMed a Shadowrun game. Too long, in fact. Normally i wouldn't have the time but I've got a good concept for a campaign. Don't wanna spoil too much, but if you feel like jetting around the world and getting caught up in a shadow war between Ares, Saeder-Krupp, and Renraku this may just be the game for you.
Well the first mission takes place near Seattle (of course) so you'll be within driving distance. Maybe the second too.
I wouldnt mind if we had another rigger in the party if the GM doesn't care. This sounds like the type of run that would attract multiple riggers anyways.
For positive qualities I have the following:
Born rich for 10 BP I can pay the going rate of 1 BP per 5000 nuyen for character creation but increase the total ammount allowed from 250,000 to 300,000 nuyen. This is needed as riggers tend to be strapped for cash quite a bit.
restricted gear for 5 bp this allows a character to acquire an item of up to availability 20 at character generation. This allows me to have a comlink with a response of 6 at character gen.
for negative qualities I am taking the following.
In debt. I'm trying this quality out mainly to assess the balance issues for myself. I posted a topic about this in the rules and such section earlier and it seemed the consensus was it wasn't terribly unbalancing. there are multiple levels of this negative quality. It essentially grants you 5000 nuyen per level to buy more equipment at chargen up to an extra 30,000 nuyen (I've gone with 25,000). After which you owe 1.5X the amount gained as a debt and have to pay 10% of that ammount each month or "bad people" decide to make an example of you. By RAW the negative quality has to be bought off with both 2x Karma and money to pay back the debt.
And finally Paranoia. For 10 BP I take a minus 3 dice pool modifer when doing anything that my paranoia may distract me from. Such as hanging around someone I seem to have issues trusting. I also need to find a new place to live every month.

Piece of advice if you haven't GMed a PbP. A short adventure that would normally take 6 hours on table game will take about 2 months if you're lucky to have players able to post daily or several times a days (like I do, :D, thumbs up guys, you're doing wonderful jobs in the Missions games). Planning a more complex run, that would require two six hours meetings at the table, with a little less involved players, will take half a year real time. I don't know how many of us will still be around in half a year or how many running games will survive the summer break.
I didn't consider that. What exactly do you do, in the event of a player just vanishing or jumping ship?
Cool! Doesn't exactly tell me much about the character though. Okay, he wanders the world stealing things and getting in fights. That could describe most every runner. I'd like to hear a little more about his personality, his background, that sort of thing.
Rest of the class, pay attention. I want you all to expound a little more on your characters once you've finished the charsheets.

I can show my Double pistol wielding mage.
It might be worth it to scrap a level of Krav Maga for the Enhance Aim spell from street magic.
It's something you'd have to drop into a sustaining focus, but it would remove range penalties for both of your pistols at the same time without using any actions. When you're working with pistols, range is a big issue.
That'd cost more than just the 5bp Krav would give you back though.
Another common option is to take the Hawkeye quality from Runner's Companion which reduces range penalties by one step and gives you +1 to unaided perception. If you combine Hawkeye with an Improved rangefinder for your smartgun system, you can shoot out to 40 meters with no penalty and no need for take aim actions.

Build Point totals: 400BP = 190 BP (Atributtes) + 65 BP (Resonance) + 124 BP (Active Skills) + 15 BP (Positive Qualities) - 35 BP (Negative Qualities) + 5 BP (Resources) + 4 BP (Contacts) + 32 (Complex Forms) _____________________________________ Contact info: Woody - The man commonly called Woody is a small time fixer at Seattle Streets. Usually making his contacts through the Matrix, when in public presence he usually try to hide his childish and wood-like appearance (he is a Chageling, Class III Surge). He has some public connections with the Cereal Killers and the Reality Hackers (usually testing new members in their skills), and some say he might have ties with the Choson Ring, but nobody knows for sure and woody remains silent about it. He seems to circulate a lot for someone who would be tied to such an organization. His relation to Kraken is thin. He made some favors in getting a place to her (a friend for another friend), and she worked well some jobs that he get her. Even though she can be a little absent minded and too focused in chasing ghosts, most of the time, she works really good - she is not valuable to him yet. Let's see what time will tell. _____________________________________ Well, that's the character I wanted to play in your game. Chakan was one of the most fun character I ever played, and I'd like to make this one related to him this way... I will flesh the contact later and also choose the starting gear... Before I forget, I'll post the qualities I took from the Runner's Companion, and you tell me if it's acceptable: Lost Loved One Bonus: 5 BP The character is obsessed with the unexplained disappearance of someone near and dear. The person (defined when the quality is taken) vanished in mysterious circumstances and hasn’t been seen or heard of since. The character with this quality feels compelled to find the missing person at any cost. She must succeed in a Willpower + Logic Test (2) to resist following any lead the gamemaster may wish to throw in her direction (be it a solid lead or a red herring). The effects of this quality are intended to be resolved through roleplaying. If desired, the resolution of this quality can even become the subject of an entire subplot. Analytical Mind Cost: 5 BP The Analytical Mind quality represents the uncanny deductive and logic ability some individuals possess to intuitively crack ciphers, solve puzzles, and sift through data. This quality gives the character a +2 dice pool modifier to any Logic Tests involving pattern recognition, evidence analysis, clue hunting, or solving puzzles. This quality also provides a + 2 dice pool modifier to any Data Search and Software Tests. |
Good point about summer, though. I didn't consider that. What exactly do you do, in the event of a player just vanishing or jumping ship?

Anyone...feel free to post your characters in Auburn, as the campaign will continue, there will be a lot of oportunities for skill...yet it would take some time...
